Considering the fact that 10k players will be able to play at once on a server how many servers do you think will be up by launch date? I hope the masses of people joining won't be so overwhelming that the servers will be full and you can't connect to them.

i'd say 10 or so would be a great number.

Well, Im just worried that since all the non-beta testers are DYING to see the combat, it will just be a massive "ATTACK ALL TO SEE GAMEPLAY". I fear that day :ohno:

i think it will be balanced from that aspect and the PKers will meet their match fast.
I believe that one server for the beta test will be opened. After all the system of registration of users too will be tested also.
Especial splash at start will not be, I heard that will be admitted to the test of 70 thousand persons. Considering that they live in different time zones, it will smooth starting loading. Judging by speed of loading of a trailer of game (1 mbyte a second at me), at game very good hosting.

i'm not really in the clear if this will be a closed beta or an open one. but i doubt they will take on so many people from the first recruiting phase. they will probably in the end do a stress test but that later in the beta. i think a max of 5k ppl will be admitted in the first part of the beta. but i'm not talking about the beta it's the official launch i'm worried about of not overloading the login servers and the gameservers themselves that hypothesizing the game will have enough publicity and there will be a high player number.

Does anyone know if N. America will get its own server(s)?

as far as i know atm there is no N.American publisher. They intend to make N.American servers but it's unsure if they will be up at launch date or later once they get a publisher for that area. if you want more info this read here: http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=61038

I am sure it will all depend on the stress tests.

this is going to be a big decision if you think about it well. you have to find a good balance between getting enough servers so that they won't be full all the time and also not too many that they will get underpopulated and the old players will get an enormous advantage over the newbies.

That's easy. They will have back up for worst case scenario. Let's say 10. There will be one server at start. If it gets full they put one more online, and so on. At least that's how others have done it I think.

They said they plan on one for beta.
At release, if there's a reason for it, they will increase the number of servers as needed.
People have been saying that there will be a server for Europe and North America at launch. They are liars. There has been no indication of this happening (in fact, there is indication that there won't be a North America server at launch).

Oh mah lord. If they leave N. America out of beta, I'll be be a sad panda. And if they leave us to a late launch date.......

Based on the beta playing and published playing I've done, my suggestion (If anyone is reading this) would be to lower the number of servers available at the beginning of launch. As servers start to hit specific thresholds of users created, add a new one or two.
The worst thing that can happen is what has happened to Star Wars Galaxies or Age of Conan already, they throw up a lot of servers and the people are spread so thin that on some servers you don't see or run into anyone for hours. Then, people start cancelling accounts. Early on there will be plenty of players to fill servers, but those numbers will unfortunately dwindle as some players don't enjoy the game, move on to something else, or run out of money. Server merges are bad in any game you play and keeping them from being necessary would be the best thing...

the problem with adding servers later is that people will not be happy on having to make a new character on another server just because the server they originally played is full. so in my opinion it's a really delicate matter i really wonder how they will do this.

I only spoke of leaving out a N. America server. This does not effect in any way whether N. Americans will be able to play in beta or release.

Darkfall isn't a game where restarting will mean losing five years worth of gaining experience and items. Starting over wouldn't be that big of a deal, unlike in other games (of course there are still those who wouldn't want to, but there are some who do want to just for a change).
