I've read a lot about how you can attack anyone and anything (yey FFA PVP), and a bit about how doing so to your own faction or allied factions will lower your standing with them.
So say I'm an orc and another orc attacks me. If i manage to win the fight will i lose standing? I havent read anything about this anywhere.
Either way it seems wierd. if i kill him and dont lose anything that means by attacking my enemy has nohting to gain... which seems to discourage open pvp. on the other hand me defending myself lowering my alignment seems a bit stupid too.
So what do oyu know about this? and which sort of system would you rather see?

I'm pretty positive I read a dev log saying that the person who initializes combat would get the detriment, weather or not he kills who he intended to kill (unless, of course, nobody dies).
I would like to see a system that knows everything including background information on the situation and can judge like an all-knowing god, but that will never happen.

No, you won't lose standing if you kill someone of your Faction who hit you first. A bit of a bummer, perhaps for ranged characters who'd really rather "get their retaliation in first", but there's no real way to have the game judge intention.

Except your stuff. And a notch on their belt. There will be plenty of people who don't give a flying fuck about their alignment: they're going to be FFA PKers, slotting anyone they meet that can't stand up to them. Soon they'll be flagged as evil, but they've got to start somewhere, right?
...which seems to discourage open pvp...
For some people it will discourage PvP vs their own kind, and that's good. Consequences are good. Others will accept the hit because they know they'll get brownie points to buy off their "evil points" by killing PvE targets, and even other enemy race players. You have to do quite a lot of unremitting ally-killing to get flagged "evil" from all the indications I've read.

Aye, it would be.
