It won't be bad because the game is skill based, so that means there will no doubt be a potion skill of some sort. So if you don't have the skill either you can't use potions, can't use the best potions, or potions will have little effect on you. It will no doubt be balanced with healing magic. Think of how UO did it. You had to have a skill to heal with bandages, or use potions.
I don't think this will be a stupid korean potion spam fest. That would just ruin the game, and I don't think the devs are that retarded.

We know there are thrown potions (like exploding potions) and I assume that there are buff potions. We don't know for sure about health/mana potions though. I wouldn't have a problem with health potions if they were a HoT and was interupted if you took damage. Basically just to lessen downtime.

if fights takes ages, it will give a chance for poeople who don't want to die to run away on 1x1
but if there are 2 or 3 trying to kill 1 guy, the battle won't least for too long, because they will do more dmg potions can heal (unless these 2 or 3 are weak)
i think itl makes pvp more balanced
my thoughts...
I don't think that "win who has more potions"
I think that "win who is more prepared for battle"

Most likely there will be a cooldown on potions so you can't spam them.

Alchemy?

I'd say more likely (already mentioned) is that healing and mana (+stamina?) pots will be non combat and used to decrease downtime.

Actually most of you are a bit off.
there are healing potions, stun potions, slow potions, exploding potions, buff potions, etc etc.
So far no skill to use them, but they won't be cheap to say, and all healing potions are / were said to be HOT (heal over time) and they heal at a rate that using one in a fight won't matter its more for recovering after a fight.
Having stores of the other potions will be costly, to make / keep and with full loot well you learn not to carry many on you.

You wont need a skill to use a potion. Decent potions might be costly to make or to buy so they wont be used as much unless you can afford it.

We've known about potions for a long long time. If any people start petitions acting like this is new news... I'm going to hurt something. Probably myself. Potions can be consumed for health or buffs, or thrown to create smokescreens and fire.
We don't know if there's a skill to use them, because we don't know what the skills are yet. Skills to make them, surely, but use them, a little doubtful.

In UO you didnt need Healing skill to use healing potions! Healing skill was for bandages as well as Anatomy. Alchemy was only used to make potions, but didnt require any skill in using potions.

i think drinking a potion should require some time like in the witcher or gothic so basically the time it takes you to drink a potion and restore life is either enough to get you killed or the health restored is not enough to restore the loss that occurs when you drink the potion.

I'd imagine that potions would not slow down PVP combat. They are probably valuable, and additionally, they probably interupt your combat sequence, so as long as your foe pushes the attack, you'll be in trouble.

you assume too much.
doesn't take much skill to pop the top off a cold frosty hp potion. if anything there will be a timer, or a limit to how many potions you can consume in given period.
but a skill just to use (drink) a potion would be asinine.

Quick question concerning the UI - Will there be a hp/mp/stamina UI? I noticed you can see monsters health by moving your mouse over them but... not your own? Any thoughts?

There is one. They probably closed most of the interface.

Drinking minigame
When quaffing the potion it becomes equipped and you must hold down left mouse which slows player movement while your character drinks the potion there is a bar showing how much is left release click to stop drinking so risk and reward for healing pots.
Dare you take that extra second to heal ? or have a meteorite slam into you ?

If two people have potions I doubt it'll last too long because maybe one might have more heal skill than the other or better potions. So many variables can make the other person better, or equal, thus pvp is more equal.
