Guys, wouldnt it be awsome if you didnt start out with the world map already discovered and their would be navigators/map makers that would make the world map! I think its an awsome idea.

Yea it is, but what if they changed that, and made it so you would have to buy a map from a (human-player) navigator, F@$@ING AWSOME!

i had the same idea, but this doesnt seem to be, and if there is already a map out, then there is no need to make it a feature for a later date, so we can only dream...

exactly my point, it would be like real life, someone has to navigate the earth to create a map

Devs have already talked about that. Would be stupid since internet sites will have the map up in a matter of one week of launch.

Why they didn't do it:
Will the whole world map be visible from the start or will players have to explore to view the whole map?

Yes it’s visible. The world is pre-existing; this isn’t the dawn of time in the storyline. We could have opted for map fog, but it’s just going to be a pain and someone will have a full map online anyway relatively quickly.

It's worth noting, however, that all you'll have advance knowledge of is basic geography and the locations of a few racial capitol cities. The majority of settlements will be clan-owned and will change size and ownership with some frequency (or occasionally be destroyed completely). In addition, monster and resource spawns are dynamic, so you can't just get a list of what's where.

Exploration will be a constantly rewarding pursuit in Darkfall even when you know the lay of the land. Leave a place and come back a week later, and a lot will change!

Yup Yup!

Though you may see the world map at any time and know there be ruins of untold pleasures at X,Y,Z.

One week those ruins could be surrounded by a field of buttercup flowers, cider trees and bunnies so cute you would fall over in epileptic seizures in the attempt to restrain yourself from just hugging them all to itty-bitty oblivion could, a week later, be the home to band a roving gnolls with enough rabbit stew and jerky to last them the entire winter.

Exploration and scouting will be very useful to merchants, raiding parties and castle keep defenders year round!

Thought: perhaps you could have a portion of the map unveiled as per what race you are: every race would be able to see all of that race's domain, but would need to interact with other races, NPCs, quests and such in other race's territories in order to get a clearer view of the land there?
