I was just wondering is this game going to be Client-sided (Hackable) or Server-sided (Illegal to hack)

depends on the feature...

It's going to be both. Some things will be client-side. Some things will be server-side.

Don't worry, you can still make a bot, just don't get caught :lmao:

ya I agree, bots kill the economy eventually.

besides, 1/2 the fun of the game is character/skill development.

Yea....make a bot macro in a game where anyone can kill you...tell me how that works out for you. Moreso in a game where they drop everything on death.

However, I am pretty sure he was being sarcastic to the OP.

The game will be almost entirely server-side and will use the client as little as possible.

The game seems to pride itself on being server-side for the MOST part, but there have to be some things taken care of client-side...

"Hacking" in general is frowned upon unless you're a white-hat hacker. And hacking video games is NOT white hat.

So don't hack. It's against the EULA to hack, and I haven't even seen the EULA yet.

Like most MMO's it's going to be both. The models and animations and such will reside on your computer, But the location and skill points and such will more than likely reside on the servers. Just like any other MMO out there. but this one will be more fun! yay!

What exactaly is hacking? Server or client (whatever the diff) what does it matter.

Hacking is a way to get the program (in this case a game) to do something it's not really meant to do, or give control to some one that shouldn't have the controls.

So.. for a game, Hacking it can let you have God Mode (never die) and infinite amount of money and such. Which is fine for maybe a single player game. but very bad for multiplayer games.

Shouldn't this be..

"Client-sided (Illegal to hack) or Server-sided (Illegal to hack and much much much more difficult)" ??

..eitherway.. they said its going to be server-sided. Haven't heard of anything thats going to be client-side apart from player input.

from what i have heard it is going to be much like eve-online.
small client (good for download :))
with most stuff being done server side, as little slient side as can be helped while still having good performance.

i think that client hacks that actually alter your character(speedhack etc) should be avoided as much as possible because they really hurt the game. i think due to the fact that this game is so unpredictable and that creatures dont spawn in the same place so you can camp, makes bots useless.

Like all games of this type, most all the game play will be server side, the graphics and fluff will be client side, and hopefully/apparently they have some new and cool ways of dealing with those difficult things that really work best done client side but should be done server side (aka speed hacks, stealth hacks etc).

Other than that, I really doubt they are going to tell you it is hackable.

I never heard a MMO that was Server/Client-sided...

Planetfall is largely server-based, but uses client-side hit detection so there's only *one* set of lag involved (shooter->server) rather than 4 (shooter->server->target->server->shooter)

interesting to know... i imagine DF would take the same route as it has similar combat aspects.

Or they might have come up with something *really* clever that gets around the problem.

Client Sided hacking Is more tolerated but still is illegal but you wont get arrested just banned

Server sided hacking is possable but if u get caught hacking the private server you'll do time in jail and have a trial.

hope that helps the ppl that dont know what happens if u get caught hacking

...And I have a friend that whent to jail for 1 1/2 monthes for server sided hacking and then had to do community service but it matters on the judge

Client side, all information that flows in and out of the client has to get permission from the server. There was a dev quote a while back saying they implemented every other line of code to be hack-proof.

Serverside means it's done by the server. Clientside means it's done by the game software on your computer. Things being done on the server are more secure. Because of that most of the important stuff in MMOs is done by the server. Stuff like keeping track of how many HP you have left and such.

Planetfall

You mean Planetside...

It doesnt really matter about client or server side features. If someone wants to create cheats for this game, they will.

Everquest currently has a multihack (it costs about 30 bucks) which allows fast running, instant zone travel (IE cross the world in ~5 seconds, plus load times) instant water breathing, walking on the bottom of the sea, and all kinds of weird features. Basically, whatever they could hack, they did.

Back in the day, Magestorm had godmode. Ultima Online had various speedhacks, and all kinds of admin hacks. DAoC had speedhacks, wallhacks, etc. Gunz Online (for a change of pace) has god mode, infinite ammunition, etc.

If someone WANTS to hack this game/create a bot/macro/script, they will. You wont be able to freeze your gold to get free items, or lock the hex value of your health to be invincible, so dont bother. :)

..Besides, who would want to hack a game this good?
