Overall, Palin's travel spending pales in comparison with that of predecessor Frank Murkowski, who charged $463,000 for air fare in 2006. Palin charged $93,000 in 2007.

Didn't see charge money for food while she was home?

And I'm sure she's not the only one that does it, but I assume she's the only one that's getting caught.

You Dems are a freaking joke. You can't come up with a REAL scandel so you try floating all this minor bullshit.

I don't give a damn who she was flying all over AK.

All I care about is she spent 80% LESS then the previous office holder.

So you justify a wrong with another wrong? Maybe I will go kill someone then point to someone who killed 4 people to excuse what I did.

Just pointing that out, think it is a needless thread though. Given if it was repubies I am sure you would be defending the article.

The reason she's most likely getting caught is that she's in a position to be vice president.., it's like if Dick Cheney had a gay affair with Rush Limbaugh, except less "shocking"

Also, to Knocky, you're such a retard.

It's not about how much she was spending. it's what she was spending it on, she was giving flights to her kids/husband on non-political stuff on taxpayers money, it's like if I was Governor and I decided to use taxpayers money to fund my vacations to Bahamas or Italy.

Doesn't look like something to fuss about to me. lol, Pstalin... she's not exactly leading the Soviet movement in this country. Democrats and Republicans in general are, but she's just along for the (free) ride!

think about the shit that hillary pulled during her campaign. she'd go somewhere and spend 17k on doughnuts. that's fucking absurd... and no, i'm not kidding. she spent that fucking much on coffee and doughnuts on one day.

Yea, she prolly ate them herself, and yeah, it was taxpayer money she spent, so it matters?

If you be thinking like that, go agro on idiots like Paris Hilton and other insanely rich people that can spend like up to ten of thousands of dollars a night.

corruption is still corruption. $700 a night hotel? please... wonder if her unmarried daughter fell pregnant in a room paid for illegally with state money, that'd be hilarious.

wonder if she has worked out what a VP is supposed to do yet?

I didn't see how it was. Per diem wages can be spent on travel and food, that's what they're for. People in elected offices get paid for their time, you know. Everything she earns is "taxpayer money".

It depends entirely on what the conditions of the per diem wages were in her contract, and it would be impossible to tell if she spent her salary or the per diem pay on any of this unless it's all accounted for (which I've never, ever, heard being the case... it would be almost impossible to accurately keep track of it). Even then, it might be perfectly kosher with her contract to spend the money on "vacations" for her kids.

I just don't want to jump the gun based on how little information is in this article.

Please, please, Democrats, Republicans... either way you slice it, you're getting screwed. I'm sure that after 4 years of either political candidate, we're going to be even more irate than we are now. I'd say that we should elect an intelligent, honest, competent person to be our next president, but instead of respectable leaders, we've got politicians. They're either all talk and little action, or they're all-around assholes.

Palin's a bitch, by the way.

I was almost certain my numbers were wrong (I don't know much about serial killers), but I think the point was still pretty clear.

She's already had a ton of baggage uncovered and it's given McCain a huge boost in the polls. Pretty much if you expect something logical to happen in this election based on some catalyst, the opposite will happen

Per diem payments are meant for meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business...Palin spends little time at the governor's mansion in Juneau, especially when the Legislature if out of session, and instead prefers to live in Wasilla and commute to her office in Anchorage.

So, $17,000 over 19 months, that's what? About 30 bucks a day? That's probably just enough to feed the dogs that were pulling her sled.

The Post's analysis shows her husband Todd and their daughters were reimbursed by taxpayers for many trips between Wasilla and Juneau as well as for a variety of other travel that was also listed as state business. Palin's aides said travel by Alaska's first family is part of the job.

So, mommy has to go to Juneau or some other remote Alaskan location to do political whatever and her family goes with her. If you've got 5 kids in your family then you understand.

Palin took her daughter Bristol to New York in October for a conference on women and leadership, a tour of the New York Stock Exchange and various meetings, the analysis shows. Travel costs included three nights in a hotel room costing more than $700 a night.

Is this something Palin was going to anyway and thought it would be a good experience for the daughter? Sounds normal to me. $700 a night is pretty steep, though...

So, looks like rational thought and not being a knee-jerk, partisan retard explains this pretty well. You can fault her for living it up in style while she was in New York but that's about it.

$700 a night isn't a lot - the NY Hilton times square rates are $600 for a basic room per night.

If she went for budget accommodation then she would get slammed for being cheap, it's a bit of a no-win situation for her.

...except that it's against the law, and she is already being investigated for political corruption.
