Well I was really impressed by the video, and although I want to see more I'll just try to be patient and troll/whine/complain as little as possible until then.

From what I've seen and read so far, melee combat is NOT automated (which is good) but I'm wondering if all there is to melee combat is clicking and swinging the sword. As your skills in certain weapons increase, would there be special attacks you could do? Maybe a "power attack" that does more damage and and go through blocking partially, but cost a lot of stamina, or being able to hit your opponent with the broad side of an axe for a stun or disorienting effect (not that I'm looking for crowd control in melee combat, I HATE CC). I heard that there are special moves for daggers for stealthy characters, like doing alot of damage if you sneak up behind someone and backstabbing them, but that could have just been wishful thinking.

Is melee combat just going to be a point and spam click with timed blocking, or will there be additional attack moves for more variety and strategic combat.

Or am I just asking really stupid questions that no one but the devs would know and I should just be patient and hopeful till more information is released while I start to age rapidly in horrible, horrible anticipation? :(

Your last sentence holds the most amount of truth in it because I don't think anyone knows the specifics on this yet :(

Hehe, yeah probably, I guess every thread on this bored is purely speculation unless it has to do with what we've seen in the videos so far. I just wish I knew, the suspense is killing me. :ohno:

There will be attack skills different from the normal attacks. You´ll unlock those learning them from npcs/players or advancing in your main weapon skil and adquiring new skills belonging to the skilltree of that main weapon (also i think that there will exist attack skills not related to any other skilltree). IE i read somewhere (too lazy to look for quote) that advancing in macefighting will probably unlock a part of it skilltree called "stunning attack". I hope it helped.

Your correct. I read the same info just don't have the quote handy. As you max out a specific skill, you get special attacks for that skill.

Also the OP's question about backstabbing. AFAIK all damage is increased from behind. Not just special attacks (althou there may be some that do increase behind attacks even more), but any attack does more damage from the rear.

I remember seeing pics from the game that included bars with skills that you could select. It would have been nice if the video included footage from the perspective of the player so we could see how all this would work together.

Actually, there were glimpses of what you described in the video.

Yeah but from what I remember it was just showing how to do transfers and handle your inventory. I can't recall seeing any fighting from the perspective of the player.

It would be nice to have special abilities for mele, since that's what I'll be focused on. Maybe like an AOE type of ability where the character spins a 360 to hit all nearby.

Anarchy Online has this on their melee and ranged weaponry. Melee consists of Sneak Attack, Fast Attack, Brawl(has a 30% stun for 3-5 seconds), Dimach. While ranged consisted of Aimed Shot, Full Auto, Burst, Fling Shot.

Each were taken from the options menu and placed on your hotbar to activate they usually locked out. So for example Aimed Shot, Full Auto, Fast Attack, and brawl caped at 11seconds. So every 11 seconds you can use these powerful specials. While Burst was 8 seconds, Fling Shot 6 seconds, Dimach(once an hour to half an hour(depends on skill)(shade class had a Dimach as in lifetap so they can use it a LOT more often) has a large heal and somewhat large damage, and finally Sneak Attack is capped at 30seconds which is weird cause it's the melee version of Aimed Shot.

They each were different for example Aimed Shot and I believe Sneak Attack never miss in PvP(both have been known to cap 13K damage both PvP and PvM, though PvM sees 13K more often as PvP theres a 30% damage cap), in PvM if the mob can spot you in stealth it's no go usually tricks to activate them, PvP no stealth needed to activate. Full Auto is odd can cap at 15K all damage is capped at 13K but it tends to not cap as often so if you activate and 4 rounds check impact and the 5th checks and misses the rest miss. Burst is a 3 round special but tends to not be as strong as FA.

Pretty unique I don't recall any MMO that uses specials in such a way except as a spell. And not as a extra damage boost with a lockout that allows you to use other things as well like other items or nanos(spells for those who never played AO) or whatever.

I agree.
I can live without having special melee attacks but it will make things more dull.

"Choose from a great variety of weapons, armors, hundreds of offensive and defensive spells, and special attacks."
-I heard that the webpage is outdatted. However I doubt that would be a feature that would be emoved by the devs. It is kind of necessary...
