in some Q&A or dev diary i read that there were going to be a limited amount of buildings spots and space, while i already knew that, i didnt know there would be so few: like 100-150 if not less.
thats not a problem, not at all usually. but we are facing 10k people in 1 world. meaning 66 (and a very poor guy consisting of two third of whats normal) for each building site. meaning that 16 people (and the poor guy) will not have a clanstone bound to them period if there were exactly as many building sites as there are clans. now im talking about the first month of darkfall, because after that 1, maybe 2 months that number of building sites connected to 1 clan will grow steadily till there are about 30 clans left that own building sites.

now, how on earth is a newby clan going to get his own tiny piece of land when the big guys all have an army waiting, not to mention the troops of their alliance(s). how will they fit in, will there be more added buildings sites or what is going to happen.

let's hope i didnt remember it correctly, and that there's a * load more....
but still, what protects the newcomers? (if they're not uber 1337 in skill and gear)

The thing is, about 20% of the population will be clanless, in addition, do remember that the cities can be upgraded so, the minimum amount that can bind into the stone is 50. That cap will raise. 10k players is counted as online amount. Theres a lot more players. Some of the clans don't even want a city. Newcomers can gather, forge an alliance with existing clan and conquer some village and start their world domination from there. Just think little further, and you'll see all the options open.

I doubt any non-hardcore clans will own any cities by 3 months after release

The world is huge I doubt it will be a problem, in shadowbane there was plenty of clans that had little cities...Plus a race will benefit by having more cities in that "racial area" for defense so there is another incentive.

They won't get cities, unless they are gods among men, or if they make their won alliance, or join one.

I am gambling that a 16 man guild will be able to hold 0 land.

The only reason you sometimes could in SB was the lack of population.

To be city owners 16 man guilds will have to sub to larger organizations is my guess.

I hope the clans will be huge, and have high standard goals... looking forward to seeing how the clans and players will interact under the full loot feature =P

I don't see 16 man guilds owning anything. However, I do see guilds being formed by new players years after release and recruiting over time and eventually taking over cities. Or recruiting plenty of people and just ally with other guilds, maybe newb guilds.

I see 16 man guilds as free loot.

Yeah, while I do see the end game portions of conquering cities and the likes a la sb, I do wish that there were a few more city locations given how big the devs have stated the world is.

MMORPGs are about adventuring. Playing with a party, having a fun time with your friends and questing. Not everyone owns a lot of land, only the most powerful clans will have cities and castles. If a new clan wants one then they have to take one, people that can't hold a city or any building don't deserve to have one.

I agree with the Canadian

I agree with both Sivvy and Prox. Coming in with a small clan, we would like to have a town and hang onto it, while recruiting, but we understand the bigger - the more powerful and will roll with the punches 'literally.' :) And who is talking about end game, we haven't even gotten started! I see a never ending game of slaughter and carnage and some great battles with towns changing hands often amongst the smaller clans. Oh I can't wait. :lmao:

Welcome to the game of thrones . . .

Small guilds have to be creative to be a factor. I've been on all both sides. Had Shadow Company city burned down by the entire Dread server, and burned many towns on Death with the big blue machine. We played from a bare tree next to a freehold on Vengeance rolling with our elite Holy Horse Grief group. I've played solo with my old wizard jumping from open tree to open tree.

It's all what you make it. The trick is knowing your role, picking the best strategy for the situation.

On the other hand. If you are new to the "hardcore" type of MMO, and never played UO or SB at end game PvP levels, trying to compete with guilds like LoD is pretty fucking futile. Nothing can replace the experience of having successfully defended against entire servers and completely dessimated and disbanded guilds.

Not to say that you can't start a new guild in a game, work hard finding talent and eventually be able to compete. But it's definitely a long learning curve when you consider that guilds like us have been doing this together for ten years.

The higher they stand, the longer they will fall.

they need to be huge , or merge , or they are fucked, pure n simple. that is how it should be.
