View Full Version : Suggestion: Creative things to do

I've read A LOT about what people plan to do in-game, and I've come to notice that there are a few things people want to do, but they are very vague/overused, and I'm afraid there will be too much of in-game.

That includes:
Mercs
Bounty Hunters
Shipbuilders
Sailors
Siege specialists
Crafters (actually it'd be nice to have more)
and other things that I might post later
EDIT: architect

oh yeah I'm not trying to offend anyone here planning to be one of those professions, but this thread is to post some unique ideas that have hardly been discussed, if ever.

The point of this is that there should be a HUGE amount of variation in specialists for a game that provides as much freedom and Darkfall. However, I am not really seeing any creative ideas/jobs/classes that people might want to be. Everyone seems like they want to carve their own niche, but they are hardly any different, from what I am seeing.

Here is my point:
Anyone have any creative ideas as to what to do in Darkfall to truly separate yourself from the rest of the playerbase?

Here is one of my corny terrible ideas!!!

Herder: Basically this craft relies HEAVILY on the difficulty of getting mounts. They basically gear up their whole guild with mounts, b/c seeing from the gameplay trailer that mounts probably die fairly easily... the guild will almost surely be needing a lot of mounts. Herders carve their niche by doing anything to get mounts.

They grind money/whatever you need to buy mounts from an npc, they loot other players when they can, and in battles they always hunt the opposing side's cavalry. I think it'd be crazy fun to be a herder, I don't know about you guys. However, if mounts are realllly easy to get, then the guild members can just get it themselves, which would lessen the need for a herder.

Post your own ideas here if you want. (Just dont' post your best stuff, or I, or someone else, may steal it!)
:D:D

You forgot to add to the cliche` group "Architect".

Herder is a really great idea. I have an idea but it might be kind of stupid.

Looter:
After a major battle you have one person or a group of designated persons get all the loot and bring it back to the Guild City. They can organize it in the storage and that way if you die you can go to your guild city and suitup in your free Guild store. Of course the room could be locked and only trusted to members who aren't going to go off and sell the items they take.

Ahh, I did forget to add architect.

I was thinking of making a looter too :D

Until Dev's release more information no one truly knows what they want to do, all we have at the moment are ideas to what we might want to be.

Drug dealer (alchemist/poisoner)

It would be cool if guards got pissed for someone having drugs and tried to arrest you.

I remember someone posting something about being a native american and "chilling in the woods" lol.

Alchemist is cool, I wonder how many drugs there will be in DF though.

Drugs will not be in Darkfall.

My friend (Orcris) and I are actually thinking of starting a guild that specializes in selling information to different sides in wars (be they between races, clans, whatever). I'm not sure if it'll pan out, but we can try, right?

I'm gonna just travel around Agon, PKing, Griefing.

Every once in awhile I'll stay in one area, and join a clan w/ a city, only to backstab them somehow, and be on my way.

I'll group with people to take down a camp of Goblins or something like that, and just PK him after the job is done.

And I'll just kill someone in funny ways.

Like when I'm in the middle of a nice convo with someone, I'll just kill them, laughing at the hatemail.

I'll backstab my closest online friends, unless I know them in real life, and never talk to them again.

Basically, I'll be King Bitch of DF (or try to be), and see how popular I can be for being a total faggot.

Yeah, I bet it could work out well too. One friend in one clan, one in the other. They can say to the other clan whether they are planning to attack with Boats, or with Land Siege machines, so the clan can defend accordingly. (just an example)

Its basically what I do in Halo when I'm bored of regular Halo.

In Darkfall it will be sooooo much funner.

That's a great idea! I like that.

Thanks. We already came up with a name for it too: Unda Venenata (It's Latin for "Venomous Water") as a play on how information can be both a blessing and a curse. A need and a destruction.

Thanks. Orcris supplied the basic idea and I refined it a bit and provided the Latin translation.

Do you have any idead how much competition you are going to have for that title? You have just described about half of the kiddies that will be joining the game for a month then go crying back to WoW where its safe.

I will most likely be an Assassin...doin' stuff. Stuff like...uhm...surviving in the woods...and being helpful. When I see a new player being a nubcake and venturing through a dangerous area...I'll watch him. :ninja: AND THEN I'LL TOTALLY MAKE HIM MY APPRENTICE IF HE SEEMS TO LIKE THE IDEA OF USING STEALTH LOL. Jk. I might hide in a tree...he fights a monster and I shoot the monster in the head. :sly: I'll be soooo cooooool and badass. Ugh...but that will never happen.

So I guess I'll just be an Assassin that avoids players when needed and possible, and will sometimes ambush a group or just one person for some phat lewts...but I won't be all HARDCOOOOOORE.

I think its a nice idea, gives the game a bit more of variety and a less combat involved skill. But as you said it does rely on how hard it is to actually catch a horse and tame it.

Wow that is a really good, obscure idea... that EVE Online already has. Nice.

This is some good stuff. I will now proceed to act stealthy in the woods in hopes that an awesome survivor assassin will teach me the ways of helpful assassinations!!

My idea:

Wise Fisherman Vagrant - I'll travel not only the seas and rivers of the world searching for the biggest catch, but also the lands looking for herbs for my cooking, while also healing any fellow vagrants in need. I picture my character as a bald, grey bearded dwarf in a dirty brown robe floating down a river or drifting in the ocean, fishing off of a flimsy skiff.

I'll carry a bow to defend myself (from archers on banks of rivers and whatnot) while aboard my skiff, and a hammer or mace for any evil douches that need an up close pummeling while I'm exploring on land. In my travels I'm sure to stumble upon many places(resources, items, npcs?) of interest. I'll make money selling fish and other cooked delicacies. Stuff that would hopefully have special effects that a casual cook wouldn't be able to get.

So thats the idea. Dunno how original it is... pretty much a sailing bum, with a fisherman-cook twist. I'm sure the plan will eventually change though. Probably take up some kind of wood craft later on.

Let us not forget one of the most important "classes"

Town *** - Offers very little to the actual gameplay experience. Always located near some type of central city hub, the town *** will attempt to interact with everyone spreading the joy of their latest found item, newly crafted house decoration, or tales of their greatest monsters slain. Town fags are usually lured with promises of said items/events out of town and mercilessly killed/looted. Every game needs at least one for good laughs - very similar to rl's town drunkard/handicap.

Some important roles I didn't read in this thread:

Explorer: specialist in long travels, willing to dedicate even many hours to explore the land in serach of "hot spots": some interesting cave to attack, some interesting recource node, a free city spot, a built city with low defences, and so on... Ability to mark runes would be much appreciated

Spy: master of disguise and stealth (which means, of course, hiding behind stuff and not click->invisible). Ability to mark runes is useful for them too, since they might be used to mark them inside the places the infiltrate in.

Messenger: rides fast, knows shortcuts, delivers safely. And hopefully comes back alive :D

Assassin: specialist in single target kills, preferably unnoticed. Capable of spending whole days to prepare the kill and to wait the perfect opportunity to make a clean, flawless job.

Thief: of course DF will have stealing abilities too. Mastering that art will be a full time job.

Security: where there are thieves, there's need for security! I hope DF will have skills especially designed to spot thieves in action. Such a profession will be much appreciated especially during events, such as birthdays, bridal, clan meetings and so on.

These are just a bunch of the thousand roles one could play in such a great sandbox game :)

Very nice idea.

Finding a nice lake, establish a house. Then go fishing on a little boat cooking or smoking what i've caught and maybe selling it on a local market.
Selling fishing licences for 'my' lake is one additional thing I can think of. And hunting down the poachers not selling their part for using my lake.

--

Becoming the one ork that is the friend of the dwarfen blacksmithes that are teaching him in the secrets of crafting could be another interesting/dangerous/funny thing to do.

--

Become a retarded alfar born in the body of a mirdian can be fun too. Sure one will have a hard time until he's accepted by some of the alfar.

--

Become a mine robber, be known as the most successfull resource looter from enemy mines.

--

Become a mountain guide. Leading clans through the mountains so they are able to lauch a suprise attack.

--

Establish a theater and perform shakespear's romeo and juliet with some orks and mahirim as actors.

--

There are so many things one could do.

I gonna make a small house in a cave and kill every one that come close!
I gonna grow stufs out side to entice them. When them come for the mats to geather them will see my cave and go in to it. In there them will se dimonds and ather stufs. When them are in all this i will backstap them.

I alwhays gonna solo Citys. When players are at sleep or are at war with ather city i will sneak in and take over. Maby steal every thing in there bank!

I still think there should be tameable and possibly breedable mounts with distinct traits and that they shouldn't have figurines.

Sorry, kind of off-topic sort of, but I don't really have any truly on-topic ideas.

I was actully thinking the same thing, but in the lines of informants to help players that are bounty hunters.
With a wide and spread out network of informants all around the world it will make finding the mark a bit easier, ofcorse if the bounty hunter doesn't pay up when his mark is found he gets killed :)
