I bet theres been a thread on this but im too lazy to search... anyway will there be footstep sounds (my guess is yes), and will different armors make different sounds, for example will heavy mail armor make a loud clanking noise, but cloth will make a very quiet sound?

The devs are big on visual and audible clues. So there's a good chance.

good, cause i dont wanna be an archer and have some guy in plate sneak up behind me w/o footstep sounds :P lol.

Another question is does the game support 3d sound? O.o - This could be very important but idk how easy it is to do with a small dev team.

When the Alfar party was walking around you could probably hear them from the other side of Agon.

I was surprised how loud the footsteps were. Usually in MMOs I can't hear them over the blaring game music and horrible ambient noise.

Might be a troll but: sounds can be "placed" in 3D space. The position of the sound and the position of the "listener" determines the balance and strength of the sound.

Considering how much the devs want to make this game realistic, I would say it's in. Especially since I can easily do 3D sound in a game in some of the most basic languages.

3d sound exists, the best part is u can use it with 2 speakers :D. Its cool if you listen to it, it can make things sound like they are anywhere around you, my soundblaster x-fi control panel thing has a great example of a helicopter flying around and its amazing

I also assume that there's going to be a skill proably called "Sneaking" that will quiet your footsteps, and at the highest levels, make your footsteps undetectable.

Watch the video again, and this time listen to what is going on, especially right before human/dwarf/elvish alliance charges to defend water front

I also assume u play oblivion too much and are mixing a lil bit of what you want in the game with what is actually in the game :)
Don't worry, it happens to everyone

pretty sure i read something along the lines of what he said in one of tasos's updates ;)

I would be surprised and disappointed if footstep sounds as well as clanking sounds for mail/plate armor were not included.

I bet they'll have an option to turn off background music so you can focus more on other sounds like footsteps and screams of pain in the distance.

Of course, I hope the latter means a chance to score some loot.

I don't need a quote, can't be bothered.

5.85. Attributes
Well actually we do have an attribute named "Noisiness" in the game. It is an attribute much like STR, DEX, HP, MANA etc. So you figure out who is the most noisy

Yes, I am aware of the walk silently skill, but the one dood almost directly quoted how the sneaking skill works in Oblivion, can't be a mere coincidence ;)

Before this dumb thread gets closed, anyone know if races affect footstep sounds? Like will Orks make louder noises than, say, Mirdain?

Wolffos

Well scince they add manual stealth sound will be a very important aspect they'll add, so my answer is yes there will be sounds for diffrent armor ;)

It would be better if it does even though i'm aiming to be a stealthy character. Otherwise you could just run around stabbing people in the back. On the bad side, some people will have out the massive £500 3D surround sound on max volume picking up every leaf rustle in 400 yards.

Here is the dev article about sensory cues. It's about all we know on this subject.

Bah, fuck footstep sounds. I don't want to hear the same "Thumpety thump thump" noes every time I walk or run. Footstep sounds aren't important at all really.

Yes. The Devs want you to be able to hear your enemy coming if you're alert enough, it's why they didn't put in motion trackers.

They can balance the "sensitive sound abuse" very easily (just like balancing the brightness issues).

You have skill of X in LISTEN (if there is such skill). Enemy have Y in Noise. The area have ENVIRONMENT of Z.

The result of the funcion is that you can hear the enemy for example in 10 meters of you. Even you turn your hyper sensitive master soundblaster of greatness on MAX, you will simply not hear anything untill he got in 10 meters of you...or something like that.

It is the same with darkness levels - even you turn brightess on max - your black will just become grey with elements of violet, and your player ability to see won't be much improved.

Anyway I will listen probably the music of the game (if it is epic as the gameplay movie) instead of hearing enemy footsptes lol :D
