Well, well, well, those are some buetiful screenshots and certainly alot better then what we;ve been seeing before. The buildings look very nice and also very unique. This was a very good and also very surprising Christmas preseant. Happy Holidays to you too.

:D :D :D
nice shots!

i really like the one taken aboard the the ship, overviewing a small harbour with a docked boat. test7.

the water looks great and the textures of this last batch of pictures are the best i've seen from Darkfall Onlines world ever. this is looking very promising. but we all know that your game will offer so much more than good graphics, those other elements are the ones that really makes the game!

the only thing i was worried about before was your past level of graphics. if you have the same smooth textures on playermodels and everything else, this can't go wrong at all. that's because you already seem to have taken care of the gameplay sides of making the game.

im looking forward to follow this game more closely as we enter the new year ;)

happy holidays to everyone on the boards

These shot are really interesting to me. I wonder if Rubayiat should be referred to more of a tropical continent than a desert one. Or maybe it's just this particular location that looks tropical. I hope that they still include the "hundreds of small islands" because it'd be nice to have a few small deserted islands with this type of theme.

It's also nice to see different sizes and types of boats. The close-up woodwork on the one boat looks so real to me. Each plank of board is re-used throughout the deck, but never too close to itself to notice any redundancy unless you're looking for it.

I noticed the sail of a little single person or two man boat tucked in by the side of the dock there, but the camera doesn't quite catch an actual shot of it. And speaking of the docks, it's nice to know that they're not just going to use the same type of dock everywhere that one is located. The docks at Sanguine are wooden, these seem to be stone and in a completely different style. It's the small things like that, that help immerse people into the game, even if they aren't actively aware of it. Nice touch.

The little "lighthouse"(if that's what it is) is a neat touch too because it's not fancy and overdone, it's just basic enough to handle it's function. I wonder though, will it actually be lit in the game and is the light going to be high enough off the ground for players to navigate by when they're out a ways from the shoreline? I guess there could be more than just one, scattered in the surrounding areas though.

The buildings are very nicely done. I like how they drew from multiple styles. There's some arabian influence as well as what I would guess as a little egyptian theme in there. It came out unique looking, but not out of place for the setting.

It's very cool that they provided us with multiple shots of the same location at different times, because not only do we get to see the lighting differences, but if you look closely you can notice alot of changes that were obviously caused by the wind. Not just the trees leafs move in the wind, but in some cases, the entire tree trunk will sway. I can't wait to see it all in motion.

Aside from the city & bay areas, the other screens make Rubayiat look like some planet you'd see in a Star Trek episode. At first, I was thinking, "that doesn't look very realistic", then I thought "hrm, well, it IS a fantasy game". I know formations like that do and have existed in the real world, but over time they've fallen or eroded and there are only a few still standing. So to us, it may look a little strange at first. However, in Agon, it could be a completely believeable sight. It's sort of funny, but from what I can see, they did a better job making an fantasy desert atmosphere from scratch than Star Wars Galaxies did with Tatooine and 30+ years of visual and written reference material.

The only bad thing that I noticed, was that the water color still looks out of place to me. I think it's because right now, the sky isn't reflected in the water but I imagine that'll change once they get the global system in place. Overall, damn nice job devs.

rekker, I != We

If sunset are going to be that dark, then night should be near pitch black.. alfar goodness ^_^ people afraid to leave the city at night lol
It's nice that nightvision will actually mean something. In most games I can usually see in the "dark" areas fine without any flashlights or whatever :(

(the sun loods wierd)

I'd just like to chime in with Syphriel from the second page of this thread -- please give us very dark nights in Darkfall, so that torches and lanterns actually make a difference. I've always hated the "painted-on" look of lighting effects in most mmorpgs. It seems they've never progressed beyond the dull effects of EverQuest, where the environment just look like it's colored yellow whenever someone carries a torch. DAoC, AC, and EQ all suffer from this problem. I want nighttime to be dark, lit only by the moon and stars if in fact an artificial light source isn't present.

In addition, I really hope we get dynamic shadows in DF, though I suspect that would be a technical nightmare to have hundreds of people with torches all casting light and created occluded shadows around. Still, I hope light sources do something other than making the environment appear to be glowing. Darkfall is a next-generation game in every respect, and I think it'll take a painful consumer-interest hit if its lighting looks old before it's even released.
