View Full Version : Blocking in the video???
Did anyone see any blocking in the video? To me it just looks like everyone is mashing the slash button.

Now that you mention it, who really cares, given that there's ONE fucking attack animation per weapon?

It's impossible to tell if they're just mashing buttons. However, look at the melee combat e.g. in the video where the orks raid the near-empty clan city and at one point about 4 ork surround on toon and kill him without any of them going down. That toon was certainly blocked in but without being able to see health bars, it's impossible to tell if or how much the ork were hitting each other.

There's more than one attack animation. Rewatch the part when the Orc walks onto the catwalk to 1v1 in the town siege early on. His opponent slashes at first, but downs him with a sword thrust to the chest.

I'm almost certain that manual blocking was taken out. I can't remember where the quote is, but I think it may have been mentioned in one of the Warcry Dev Journals. I'll try to find the quote.
Edit: I found a quote relating to it. It seems that it is in. /shrug
11. Can you give us some more details on the blocking system? Parrying, is it in? If so does it work like blocking?
Blocking works by choosing to block, during which you cannot attack. You will often still take damage, usually reduced. You have to be facing your opponent to block. Parrying works the same way.

It must be old, the last thing we know is that it is active skill, not passive, if i find the quote i´ll post it too.

It was hard to tell but i looked it over and it seems there is blocking because of the orc invasion on the humans the human pauses for a second which means he might have been trying to escape but i dont know for sure.

it might be similar to roma victor in that you use the wsad controls in conjunction with the attack button to do left slash, right slash, thrust, overhead attack.
It worked very well in RV.

several, on the elevator and the 1v1 on a cliff, gives a blue-like animation.

While i was watching the gameplay video i was a little disappointed on how the melee animations looked. More variety and smoother animations would make combat more appealing to the eye.
It could of just been because of the video though.

Your target has to be in the arc of your swing or you miss him. Button mashing will screw up your timing. Also if a buddy is standing beside you and you start mashing buttons you will be hitting him at the same time. Anyone in that arc gets hit friend or foe.
I looked for blocks and did not see any either though. They might have that disabled right now. The game is still in Beta you know.

reason it looked like same attack for the bigger battles was because if theywould have attack another way they would have hit there own team mate so over the head attack was the best

Manual Blocking is in, its just very very bad to see in the videos.
The first example is in Part 1(youtube version), at 2:32.
When a human blocks an attack from an other player, whos coming downwards.
You see how the human puts his shield in front of him, and hear the sound of metal clashing at each other.

It says that you choose to block so yes blocking is active not passive.

Will there be the option to passively defend someone or is it just hack and slash style. I know there was blocking in the gameplay trailer but if you don't have a shield then can you parry someone or dodge them.

I really hope if there is directional attacks it is controlled by the mouse and not by shitty wasd like PVK II. I want to be able to walk in a different direction then I am attacking.
