I was going to try it. I followed the trailers and updates for a few months but when it came out I hadn't got my new computer yet. So I waited a few months, got my new pc, and everyone said AoC was crap. So, I never bought it.

Interesting story, that. I might get a book out of it.

Played on the rp-pvp server Cimmeria from day one of live play. Quit about a month ago I guess. Yes it was unbalanced at first and I am fine with fixes, but they broke it more every week.

*nods emphatically* yes, see now that's what everyone was saying. So, I didn't play it in the end. But I was so sad about that because I'd been really looking forward to the whole decapitation thing and all the blood and ffa PvP.

I was so excited.

Then I found out Darkfall was all active and thrillingly close and that's even better, so now I am not sad any more. In fact I am quite chirpy.

Only thing Im not happy with is the decline in population, I dont care about bugs, balance, raids, crafting... only need lots of victims and other players to witness the whoopin.

I have a gemmed out Barbarian still, been logging in casually while waiting to see the holocaust of the PvP consequences patch. Been playing the game as a murderer since Tortage and easily became notorious for abusing open PvP while chumps whine in OOC.

I played AoC. I found the first 20 levels to be interesting. After noobsvile Island you are thrown into a alpha tester and forced to do the same crap every MMO pushes. Pointless gathering quests.

I love Robert Howard's work and the lore is incredible. The graphics are great and the combat/fatalities are very very fun. I love the low fantasy setting (But they screwed it up with all the casters and WoW flashy spells and crap).

But... The zoneing is horrible. The world has no flow or immersion. Death has no risk. Poor designs lead to spawn camping and PVP only taking place around those areas. There are no objectives or direction in the game as far as PVP. They didn;t deliver on SOOOOO many features like formation combat, controlling resource nodes such as mines, drunken brawling, and on and on.

I'm still playing tho...

i was so thrilled to get a beta invite for AoC, but knew right away that they would have to do a lot of improving before i'd consider purchasing it. of course, we all know now that this didn't happen. i count myself fortunate that i didn't waste a dime on it, but i did spend hours trying to fight with ill-managed beta logins, bugs, and unhelpful Funcom staff, so it wasn't exactly like i got out of that fiasco unscathed.

Anybody who is anybody can tell how badly that game sucked before it came out.

Never played it, heard raves about it for about 2 weeks from friends, then nothing, then 2 weeks later, gripes about how much it sucked.

I'll say I never played AoC, though I did test it extensively in their late alpha/beta. I couldn't bring myself to bear the destruction of their core game concepts by buying the release.

i've been playing aoc since day 1. i didn't expect to pay for month 2. i wasn't even a little bit of an aoc advocate and even thought the pvp weekend betas were weak. but, i'm still playing. ffa is nice.

I like the atmosphere there, all this blood mess & dead bodies which looks real, not plactic figures as in many other games. I like zones design, weapon & armor design which also looks as real weapons, not terrible "things" we can see in Korean grind-games & "the best & only" game-noone-should-ever-name game :D
But that's only good thing about the AoC, imho :D

Maybe after playing AoC i'm disappointed with the looks of Darkfall armor & weapons. Hope, other game sides will neutalise this negative impression.

Well they had lied about many many things about the game, they say it would be based off of the books when in reality it was more on their imaginations, and they failed to realize greed fucks up everything. The game will have its own supporters and what it does it does ok but the devs are some of the dumbest I have seen. Funny but true story the lead class designer only played a tempest of set durring the entire class designed process which explains why they are so freakin over powered.
