One of the funniest things I've found regarding Funcom GMs.

Guild leaders beware!

In the most rediculous example yet of Funcom and their GMs incompetence yet I make this post.

I am a guild founder on the Dagoth server. Guild name ARCH. We have a tier two city, tier three keep and a battle keep. This guild had over 200 members.

My self and a number of officers decided to leave the game and go to WAR. We still had a large contingent of people who wanted to stick it out in AoC. So after some discussion I made new officers and a new guild leader from those faithful folks that were staying.

There was one player inparticular who I did not promote. He took offense to this and started cuasing trouble. He LEFT the guild with his main character however he still had an "alt" in the guild.

This player in his spite contacted a GM, feed the GM a line of bull and the GM, GET THIS made his alt the guild leader of the guild. This player then kicked every single player from the guild thus destroying our guild city and our battle keep. Oh, Also he stole all the gold and building mats from the guild bank. He admitted to doing all this to the guild leader that we promoted, luckily he saved chat logs of it and perhaps some action can be taken by Funcom to reverse this and or ban this player for his actions.

The person we actually made the guild leader logged on to find the guild and all its accomplishments GONE. He contected a GM, the GM told him there is no record of the guild ever having excisted! We were one of the first guilds formed on the server, our guild city was in instance number ONE in lach plains. When the guild leader asked what happened to the guild the GM just shrugged his shoulders and actually offered him GOLD to go away.

When asked, the GM said it is funcoms polocy that if a guild leader has not logged on for 30 days then a GM can take this kind of action. Well me being the guild founder, I was logged into the game 7 days ago to take care of promotions and make the new guild leader. So how exactly do they confirm such a thing? Do they just ask the retard who is asking to be made guild leader?

So guild leaders BEWARE, any retard of any level can just contact a GM and be made guild leader of your guild without your knowledge or consent and they he can destroy your guild. And funcom will help them do it then shrug their shoulders at you after saying sorry nothing we can do.

Worst game management error I have ever heard of in a game period. Funcom you have really earned the name FAILCOM.

And yes, I did think AoC was a great concept and, for awhile, was the best MMO options available. I still stand by my statements in the timeframe they were made.

What an extraordinarily stupid chain of events and what an awesomely incompetent GM who allowed them to begin. If naught else, an excellently instructive case study.

Funcom reminds me of Bush. Promises to be all tough and hardcore and kickass, and then phails completely. The incompetence plays a bit into the comparison as well.

Darkfall will be the Vladimir Putin to Funcom's Dubya.

Heheh, the way the GMs in AoC handle things could rival the most bureaucratic and corrupted socialist state on the planet.

I am currently playing Age of Conan on Dagoth server in the guild Ascendant, the guild which absorbed ARCH. So I had a first-row ticket to the ARCH guild leader logging into our teamspeak in panic and rage the morning his guild city went *poof*.

Guild cities disappearing left and right, could yours be next? :sly:

This doesn't surprise me.

During my short time in AoC my character was bugged and couldn't take/use any profession. The GM said it was my fault for using the respec NPC in the city, who was bugged and that if I bothered them again they would put warnings on my account.

I can't wait for this game to die.
Grinding mobs in a small instanced cave for 20 levels was awesome too, i've never seen such motherfucking innovation.

I actually can't wait to see Funcom go bankrupt, seeing Eidos die would be nice too because then later when I'm part of a company I can purchase the rights to make a Startopia game again, I'd seriously do that if I had the money, same with DK2.

09-04-2008, 11:53 PM
PEW PEW PEW! Actually in fairness I have to say I quite enjoyed the first hitman for what I played but I've always liked those management games way more. Actually though as far as alien games go Startopia is pretty damn unique in it's concept, I've yet seen another game out their so far that's tried to be like it.

tallefred
09-04-2008, 11:59 PM
I won't bash it since I never played it. Tbh though the original Hitman was junk, it's one of the few series which improved over time, culminating in a nerdy orgasm with Hitman 4. I don't think they are making another one, at least not in the near future, but that game is pure awesomesauce.

*BUMP for some clarity*

Since the details on this event have now all come out of the shadows, I'd like to set the record straight about it in order to save Funcom a little face-value.

The leader of the guild whose city disappeared went AWOL for some time. So after a while, the second-in-charge petitioned a GM to make him guild leader. Since the actual leader had been gone for so long, the GM did this for him. No big deal. Well the new guild leader promoted a few others to help him out. It turned out, however, that one of these new leaders was unhappy about something and took down the guild city late one night, disbanded the guild, and joined another guild to hide-out. This all made it seem like it was some kind of guild glitch, when it was really all the doing of one angry person.

I left out names for obvious reasons, but this is the 100% truth behind the matter. I hope that at this point it is not too late for the damage done by rumors and hear-say to be repaired.

I got AoC for my birthday in July, when the "PvP" patch was supposed to come out.

Age of Conan to be F2P by December 08 at this rate, followed by their bankruptcy claim in January 09.

I expect you not to buy Darkfall until you have confirmation that it's really that great.

Well, it's been stated that Darkfalls creators want us to be able to try the game before buying it to make sure we really like it and blah blah blah, but really....this is the free market and everyone's out to make money. So who knows if we'll all *really* get to play the beta/free trial ...
