I look at as a game in the form of Civilization, each play through will be as different as I want it to be.

Sandbox game is sandbox.

I was dissapointed by it, it's clearly a game that rewards messing around which is good in a way but EA have actually dumbed down everything and I expect it's so they can mass release expansions like they did with the sims.

For instance, they said they'd have it where you can build cities and have creatures underwater, but that was taken out, the creatures a.i seems to have been dumbed down too as you can't do things that will wright was showing in his presentations like drag a corpse of your victim away.

I agree. It's quite fun to mess around though, but it won't last me longer than The Sims did.

I cannot believe how bad this game is.

I had more fun with the creature creator.

Combat is boring. Socializing is boring. The cell stage is boring (fl0w (http://intihuatani.usc.edu/cloud/flowing/core.html) is a better game than the cell stage). I uninstalled after about an hour or two on the land.

It actually feels like a grind.

If it was made by a nobody, I don't think this would have received nearly the amount of attention and praise it currently has.

I am extremely disappointed. Customizable? Sure. But it's nearly useless. Eventually, you'll reach the city phase, by which time everything you did before to customize your race no longer matters. I built a really cool mech as a vehicle (yes you go from tribes with chieftains to cities with mechs), only to find out the 3754 weapons I put on it were just stat boosters, every vehicle fires the same projectile in the same way at the same speed. I even put guns on the back of that thing for one goal: all-round pwnage. I thought I was building a killer fighting machine. I was disappointed in the same way with ships and aircraft. Buildings can also be customized, but for aesthetics ONLY.

I'm now heading into space, but it's starting to bore me. I expected more. The cell stage was probably the most fun, I recall putting a spike on my ass so things that attempted to bite me from behind would regret it. The land stage was just a grind, really. The tribal stage was a dumbed down RTS, and so was the City stage.

It sucks so much.
I got it friday afternoon, I was finished (far into the space fase) by the end of the day.

The entire thing upto the Space part feels like one huge tutorial or browser game. The custumisation is fun for a while but doesn't matter at all. It's incredibly easy. The other races/factions/tribes/creatures are retarded.
The Space part is repetetive after just a few hours. It's dumbed down.
The Controls/Interface are crap for a game made by EA. And the replay value is 0.

I had fun for a while but I'm done with it after 2 days...

I thought it was a grind also.. still it was fun seeing your creature grow up, except it just annoyed me in the space stage how they pigeonhole you into a "type" and if your a warrior class you get fucked over because you'll get UFO on your planet alerts every five minutes, I'm going social, maybe religious next time just so I can put a Jihad on all the lil bastards that attacked me.., I'm amazing by the diversity of the creatures, what I'm not amazed with was the dumb AI, the lack of unique parts for your spaceship, the fact that you have to grind through missions and other such things just to even unlock the abilities like destroying a planet or causing an ice storm, which you have to buy, and that some of the cooler abilities are one shot throw aways which you have to rebuy again, and than the save system, if you save at a wrong point, your screwed, I had to use the moremoney cheat at civ stage because I was getting gang raped and I saved at a bad spot and was broke XD.

If you want a really fun game, try Mount and Blade, now that's what I call customizable.

Spore IMO is all fluff and no meat, if it had more meat, or maybe they release a patch (which I doubt) it could get better. Still, space stage IMO is pretty funny at times.

There's zero innovation in Spore which is disappointing after all the hype about how innovative it would be. It's just a mix of old put together to make a shitty repetitive game. There is a lot of customization but its so useless and boring that on the long run even the customization gets annoying.

The Cell stage was fun and pretty much what I expected from 2 years ago. An hour's worth of fun.

I'm currently in the Creature stage,so haven't played far yet. I do like that the game runs smoothly without slowdown, and so far has only loaded from transferring stages. (that didn't take too long either)

It certainly looks different; i.e. young audience-friendly with that 12+ rating, but so far I'm enjoying Spore.

EA Download manager is being a bitch and not letting me activate my account though. Also Spore account site is down for now.

SPORE sucks.

*SPOILERS*

Game have 5 stages :
1) cell stage - personally I have much fun chasing around for smaller ones and fleing from bigger ones. This is best stage in game imho - to bad you can finish it in 10 mins :bang:

2) creature stage - still fun, chasing around and fighting but at some point you just own everything that moves and its become boring. The only goal here is to obtain more and more advanced parts. The bonuses they are giving are only from best ones - no matter where you put it on your creature you can still use it and own - ex. horn giving better charge (run and stun) on arse would give same benefits as as on the forehead. There are only 4 skills for fighting-wtf? Also no matter if you have one leg or 10 you can still run at same speed max.
I think that stage was dumbed down so ppl playing sims can beat it.

3)Tribal stage - RTS - meat to gather, 7 different building, 3 kinds of non upgradable weapons (melee, ranged, anti building) - dumb, just dumb and so shallow

4)Civilization age - RTS - one thing to gather, 3 kinds of units (land, air, sea) and 3 buildings to build in city + one turret. no comment on that, i have no words to describe my frustration.

If someone would make similar game from stages 3 & 4 noone would buy it. Both shallow and dumb.

5)Space stage - I must admit that I haven't played it much. Passed couples of missions and turned comp off. If i wanted to play space sim i would choose many more advanced and better games.

Overall most of this stages are minigames and if you want to play minigames look for free flash games. There are plenty of sites with those for free and they are still better.

I said it once and ill say it again.

If you could build your PVP monster from the primordial goo and kill other people with the creation it would be outstanding.

PvP from the single cell, Growing and evolving as the opponents changed.

But spore is nothing more than a Turn based RTS, and a piece of crap at that.

The space stage is probably the best part, but you do have to grind away for hours before you unlock all the coolest stuff.

Ive been playing for 2 days now and only got the planet cracking bomb, as well as completing my terraforming toolset.

There's loads of features that have either been cut from the game, or havent been thought out properly. E.g. you can lay crop circles and scare the shit out of tribes and city civ's, but it doesn't actually do anything. You can drop a monolith, but all it does is eventually make them a space civ and they like you a bit (+50 happy bonus), which is the same as doing 1 mission for them.

Its enjoyable, but its the 2008 Black and White imo. Loads of great ideas, most of them cut / toned down from the actual release, and its definitely been made with children in mind.

Probably the most fun I've had so far has been going to an enemy's homeworld, and fucking him right over by sucking out all the atmosphere or blasting it with my heat ray - turning it into a big magma ball.

The legal way to get it is to not be american :p

It's released in Europe and Oceania, probably Asia too...

My favourite bit is the cell phase too, except for the one problem I have with the stupid limits it puts on you. I want to be able to make a beasty with 4 maws like those annoying blue bastards, but as it is it's hard enough just giving it a mouth, defensive abilities and a way to make it go.

But hunting down and killing those big green things with the proboscis' is great fun.

In creature phase, I was again dissappointed by the lack of meaningful choice, sure I can make it look cool but I can't make it be cool. I gave a creature 6 flailing arms with circular saws on the ends and it's no better than a single circular saw.

I also wanna be able to make them bigger, dog size is not big enough.

Tribe, meh, get it finished in no time.

Civ, meh, get it finished in no time.

Space, why do I have to play for 10 hours to get access to the fun abilities? And why do I have to sell my granny to buy them en mass?

I guess you guys thought it would be gods gift. I only realised it was so close to release last monday. So my wait time lasted 4 days, hardly enough time to hype myself over up over it.

If you think this game sucks, then your expectations were too high.

If you never thought you would like this game, only then are you entitled to think that it sucks.

I, for one, am enjoying this game quite a lot. I don't think its a 'kids game' as such, but I think that they did make it significantly more 'cutesy' so it would appeal to a wider audience (yes kids, but also girls).

Its a shame they omitted so much, but its going to be brought back, so go figure.

Amma gonna wait patiently for the floral editor, corpse dragging, procedural mating and underwater phase and cities.

Else that, i'm enjoying it.

No. Its quite linear and restrictive in what you can do. For example you can only put two herbivores and 1 carnivore on a planet at the start, and after you grind sporebucks to buy some shit to make the planet even better by increasing or decreasing the temperature and atmosphere you can get an additional two herbivores and a carnivore. You can do this three times total. The creatures on the planet make absolutely no difference at all. They're completely aesthetic.

One thing i've learnt from this experience.

The people that you read on random forums going 'I've been following this game for 3+ years, and its not as perfect as I thought it would be! This game fails!' have only themselves to blame.

Someone like me, who found out about this game at the begining of last year, went 'Wow, thats cool. I'll keep an eye out for its release', am really enjoying the game for what it is.

I am a little gutted that they cut things out, but I tend not to dwell on it to the extent that I end up in a raging tantrum like a spoilt four year old.

Of course, now where does that put us with Darkfall?

I'm expecting to be let down by Darkfall, but i'm hoping my experience with the game will beat this low expectation meaning that i'll enjoy it irrelevant of what awesome features get cut.
