As the title implies. Will I be able for instance to take my sword (or dagger for less dmg w/e) and attack my friend while he blocks and then we do this back and forth as an easy way of raising skills.

you will probably get alignment hit for attacking someone.. but thats probably just some few points and its only initial when you guys start hitting each other.

Then comes the question if you gain exp for every hit / block or if it's calculated afterwards when one one dies..
But it sounds like it should work yea!

Is it going to be possible to enter a state of agreed duel with someone of fellow alignment, so as not to incur alignment penalties? Guilds are going to want to train their youngsters.

I hope I see you two doing this outside the city walls so I can kill you both for being weak and afraid to do what I just did and train my skills on other players!

Not sure if there will be an official duel system, but attacking/killing your group or clanmates won't give an alignment hit.

Because it'd be a fucked up army that couldn't train with each other, who're they going to train with, the enemy soldiers?

*smiles* No, outside the city walls I'd be looking to fight something for real.

Throwing yourself at hostile foes is an excellent way to learn PvP. But sometimes it is useful to be able to spend twenty minutes with someone who knows what they're doing and can explain some of the less obvious, more technical aspects to people who don't have such an instinctive grasp of the mechanics of fighting. Like me, for instance. I was pretty good at it, once I got my head around it, but I only really got it at anything more than a basic level once my guild mates showed me what I'd been doing wrong.

Generally speaking, armies tend to train their soldiers before they send them to fight the highly trained enemy hordes :P

I assume you can, at least in the early skill stages. As you get better you and your buddy will probably be hacking at each other all night long for a couple skill points.

I think it would be doable just boring IMO.

Also careful on accidental killings, can be bad for your rep.

A dev quote stated that players in the same clan will be able to freely spar with each-other for practice. Skill gain should not be effected by kills, but by use alone, just like in UO, which is somewhat the model for Darkfall's percentage-based skill system.

There is a training system, yes

That's not really what I meant by training. I don't mean skill raising, I mean training in PvP techniques. If you've got a handful of fairly new PvPers, who are enthusiastic and want to improve their technique it's useful to be able to spar with them. It's also quite helpful for getting to know your mates' fighting style better, which is no bad thing.

It's also fun. If a bunch of you are duelling each other, it can make for a little light relief.

Ahh, yes you can do that.

One of the things I love about Darkfall is how you'll be able to increase skills while actually *practicing*!

It is going to be a lot of fun.

I don't know if anyone said it since I only skimmed the thread, but there is a group feature, which removes alignment hits for everyone in the group (as well as giving a chat channel I believe).

You can practice with a buddy without alignment hit.

It has already been stated that guilds do not suffer alignment hits from guildies "accidentally" killing each other.

Couldn't you GM your skills off a guildie in UO?

Thats tight it sparring with a clan member would be tight it will be a great way to build those skills up ...wut about accidental killings can that happen when sparring a team member for practice?

I know that this isn't what the OP was referring to but, there will supposedly be a system in place that will track players who stand next to each other trading blows to increase their skills. Legitimate fighting is fine but that sort of behaviour is viewed the same as using a bot. Old, obscure quote though. Also, I can't find it anymore.

Yup.
And i think its great you will be able to train with guildies not taking an alignment hit while still being able to gain skill.....though i would imagine it would be more fun gettin some PVE action in too just for the loot.

It's been said already that clan mates will a be able to "train" with each other. And none clan mates will be able to train in specific areas.

the thought of training with your guildies is awesome! i wish they would have put something like this into EQ, for those subborn skills that took forever to get lvled up on there own.
