We should see beta in a month or so with a release following that by a few months, probably beta 2008 game Q1/2 2009

Yeah, it's killing all of us... But you could have used the seach funcion couldn't you? Its really easy...
But i'm not shure if they're announcing "WE'RE OPENNING THE BETA NOW!", they're probably just sending e-mail to the lucky ones that will be chosen

lol im glad that i just learned about this game..i couldn't imagine the anticipation and let down..why did it take so long to develop this game? did they stop caring for three years or is this actually gonna be a game they worked on for 7 years

Has Aventurine ever said any other release date in the past?

I know they've talked about other betas and such, but as far as I can see the "coming 2008" is the first time they've even hinted at a release. Anyone OTs know of anything else?

The reason I ask is that Tasos has mentioned several times that they are very careful about milestone dates. They never want to miss one. If that's the case, then I think we can be pretty confident in the game being in our sweaty hands by Christmas.

the reason it took so long is not lack of dedication. The reason is that Aventurine is not Ubisoft or Blizzard, who have 50 people dedicated to animations, 50 on developing maps, another 100 on Marketing, dozens on website maintenance and development.

From what I've read, Aventurine is probably around 50 people all together. That makes developing complex things like sieges, crafting, naval combat, a huge world etc very time consuming.

One word.. dedication! they will try to release the game with almost all the features they said at early stages of development, and all of them full functional..

Big comanies tend to rush and take out or cut things in order to release the game sooner (because of publisher's pressure, other releases, etc)

Don't forget....2008 is for the Euros, they have their distributor.

No one knows when the Americas will get it.

And as usual, no one cares about the Aussies. :p

If they set a date (which the ehey have :S), then that will seem like an obligation to them to release the game in 2008. I wish they hadn't done that.

Chill out with some other game.If you spend to much time on these forums and spend most of your time thinking about what you would do if you could play darkfall , your not going to be able to sleep at night. Or you may go insane.

Wait from now till the end of 2008.

If you read through some of Tasos's dev journals you'll see that he takes release dates very seriously, and has said that he would not commit to one if he didn't feel the game would be ready.

If you're worried about the quality of the game if it's rushed, this is not at all like AoC or WAR. Aventurine has been very careful not to allow publishers and marketing people make decisions on their behalf.

I think that because of this, the game will have a smoother launch than some of the recent catastrophes. It will not be bug free, and it will have some playability issues for sure. But I think that with Tasos at the helm, the decision to release in 2008 means the dev team is comfortable with it, which says a lot.

As a software developer myself, who has a cynical view on software development and game development in particular, I have high hopes for DFO.

I have been reading sometime 2008 for Europe so I would assume 2009 for the US and other areas.

I would prefer having some time with the other mmo's coming before trying this out to see how revolutionary the game play really is.

I'd be absolutely shocked if it was out in 2008 given they haven't even done a full beta stage yet. I'd be less surprised by 2010 than by 2008.

Do you want a quick released game or a nice game? Thats the question I think:idea:

It would be nice with a release tomorrow, but I would rather wait for a release without millions of bugs:)

Keep up to good work developers, I'm looking forward to play The Best Game Ever!!!

(question: Is the beta started or is it just "sign up" right now?)

I'd dare say the beta process will start within the next couple of weeks. There is no reason to start gathering accounts months in advance. If release is on schedule for the end of 2008 expect the closed beta very very soon and the open beta a month or so after. All speculation but I'd make a wager if I was a betting man.

At least with the game play footage and official 2008 time stamp vaporware rumors are about done with.

Again I don't want to sound negative but from everything i have heard about the development of this game if it really does come out in 2008 it will be a complete failure. It will need way more than 3 months of sustained beta testing to be a successful launch. 2008 seems like a pipe dream to me.

No way this could be a complete failure even if they didn't have EVERYTHING finished. It's been in development for almost a decade.

This isn't AoC. They've been testing it for about a year now with professional testers.

I am worried too, but I'm fairly confident. Reading Tasos' posts about their philosophy, and knowing that a publishing company is not driving the bus both give me some hope.

I beta tested world of warcraft and their internal testers were about as good as it gets. They released new content to us in a more or less finished state and we were just basically bug finders and nothing else. WoW zones still took 3-4 months to finish off after they released them. This isn't a question of how good or bad the developers are it is just a matter of being realistic.

There has been no large scale testing of any content in the game. It is now September and could very well be October before a large scale beta test takes place. Most games run large scale beta tests for at least a full year and load test style beta tests for 2-3 months.

I do not see any way that this game can be ready this year. It can be released this year but it won't be ready and that means an uphill battle to be successful. To use WAR as an example two months before release they had over 50,000 beta accounts active testing things. One month before release it was over 100,000 accounts. This game just is not in that same phase of testing just yet.

The worst thing they can do is rush the game out the door and alienate the player base because of it. Funcom is learing that lesson now as they went from 600K accounts to most likely under 100K in just 4 months. Take the extra 2-3 months to finish the game instead.

And this game has taken forever, so it better damn well be a magical experience!

In a less.. hostile note, I've overhyped myself for Darkfall, so even if some of the stuff isn't implemented, I'll still be too hyped about everything else to care.

This game has been in develpoment since 2001, it's 2008 now and i hardly find that to be rushing the game's release. They have done the beta tests of the features internally along the way and since the game has now been in development for more than 7 years we could suppose they took care of most of the bugs along with the development too. The upcoming beta test will most probably be to decide on some of the game's features (as universal banking) and finding minor bugs that they might have missed. I'm guessing this game will be preety much ready for release in a month or two, and will be a great success.

One thing i do think still needs work and is not ready for final release yet is some of the animations, like player movement, swinging, walls collapsing and ships sinking, not just vanishing, but im preety sure the devs are aware of that and will take care of it... :)

Now the only thing we can do is wait for the release or hope we get into beta... :ohno:
