The beta data is lost when the game goes release.

As for the other questions, we don't know. Keep checking the news forum for updates.

There's no information out yet on how many they will pick or when they will do it.
We don't know if the characters will be saved or not. So just sit tight and check the 'News' section from time to time. :)

This is a major problem with AoC right now. Too many servers, few players per server.

It is almost a certainty that Beta characters will be wiped.

However there is a trend with new mmog's letting you pay to start a handfull of days before the servers go live.

1. "Soon"
2. Only one player can be "The Chosen One" obviously.
3. One....the beta server.
4. No chance whatsoever.

1. Probably right now... But the beta is rumored to start in October, though nothing is official yet.

to 2: I doubt they will try to overload the server in the "closed" beta... my guess is theyll have a short stresstest type of open beta before the release where they check server stability for a few days...

I still think they will go for about 5k maybe (having a few bigger guilds too) so they can test a few bigger battles as well (although if they really wanna keep beta short you wont see a lot of siegeing and ship combat prolly)... but thats more a wild guess than anything else
