View Full Version : Music Skills?
Anyone know if they will be implementing music skills? So if a player wanted to try to be more as a bard they could. Before someone flames I used to search feature first ;P

None as of yet. Maybe after release.
oooh i'd love to try a bard aspect of the game, especially if you could create your own songs, just like in vanguard but...less sucky

what practical place would a bard have in this environment? usually they are a buff and support class but with large AoE around themselves. in a game where AoEs affect everyone both on and off of your team a bard would be next to useless 90% of the time.
it might SOUND like a great idea, but I just can't imagine where it could be useful in this sort of world.

It's great as a fluff feature. But fluff likely comes a bit after release.

Fan Question: Bardic Spells - Are they in the game, if so what do they do? Can you explain what a "Bard" is like in Darkfall? Instruments required? What kind of instruments do you have? Can you actually play these instruments, or is it the same tune and you simply press a "play" button?
Tasos Flambouras: No bardic spells.

Have you played UO?
Bards are great for PvE.. it would be a very good feature if they are implemented here, but in that case it should be implemented taming too, so it's not probably

As there is no plan to make classes (later on you may choose to join Paladins or such) i see no point of being bard that needs ton of new skills.
But i want to see one - easy prey.

Mmm.. easy prey? i dont think so.. specially if they provoke 2 o 3 bears to attack you, or even a dragon jeje

Both taming and barding should be in DFO =(
And why are people flaming that Bards would be useless? DFO is about freedom, not about owning the next and being the best... give barding to those who want to have fun being a bard in the community.

QFT.
I feel bards/musical instruments would add to the immersion and RP enviroment by alot.

I feel bards/musical instruments would add to the immersion and RP enviroment by alot.well sure, they could add instruments. would be fun for the RPers and such, but trying to make them into a combat class would be fairly useless. even in PvE you'd have to be stuffed at the back with nothing to do but sit and buff the healers since you'd otherwise buff the mobs.
and to the person who asked, no I wasn't able to play UO. my parents were cheap and by the time I could support it myself it had already declined.

Don't assume because in other games are defensive buffers and such, they have to be defensive buffers in Darkfall.

I know I would be ready to set people on fire if there were troubadours playing "Dragula" or "Wasting my hate" ingame.
Sadly it will probably be my media player running in the background. :(

about the AOE effects in this game, you could have barbs sing racial songs that would only have affect on that race. like a national anthem, everyone would hear it but it would only really mean something to particular persons.

if I recall correctly there is a bard like spell class, around chants etc.
I dont think you will see the EQ bard or the vanguard one but a mix of things.
As far as playing a flute to make ingame annoyances, then we have no clue.
Just be mindful I kill all people with instruments.

I also hope they have barding in the game, would be cool, had this in UO and was a very useful skill. Animal taming is going to be in game, according to the DEV faq :
http://df.warcry.com/faq/view/39/
pets and taming are at 6.60 and 6.60.1 These quotes of course may now be a bit out dated, but still a reasonable info base direct from the dev's :)
So, how are they going to implement that taming of pets? hopefully music will be the option.
Also bards can use music as offensive spells too, Lotro has it and it is very good.
bards are fun characters to play, very nice if you can tame Dragons and sic them on your enemy :)

Oh yes barding is entirely necessary... my horse gets annoyed when pincushioned by archers.
Oh you mean having bards? Yes, that'll be nice too, but I'd rather have barding.

That are old news.. there will not be taming nor pets, at least in the release.. so forget about taming :(

Implementing bard songs seems a bit difficult. The only player skills I believe foreseeable would be for animal taming, battle driven war drums between clan wars/sieges, or music that buffs crafters with a successful focus bonus.
If anything, I can only see NPC hireling minstrels designated to fulfill an environment aesthetic for cities or ships.

They could also like feature in game partying where once a week the players who want just come near this area, get drunk and listen to music. This would also feature live streaming djs which are elected every week from the previews they did before the actual event.
Joking and does not really match the lore.Still it would be cool.
I would love to have music skills. But polishing melle combat and give and overhaul to the animations seem more important to me.

Don't assume because in other games are defensive buffers and such, they have to be defensive buffers in Darkfall.you wanna tell me what ELSE a bard is going to be? this isn't mermaid melody (horrible anime I found on youtube where they sing monsters to death) so song skills wouldn't make sense if they were offensive. I'm also not likely going to see a song turn into a magic wall or anything like that, which rules otu defense as well. pretty much the only thing that makes sense for a bard class is a buff class. I would expect some throwing knife skills for a bard as well as maybe some illusion skills, but given this game doesn't have actual classes those are irrelevant in this discussion.
about the AOE effects in this game, you could have barbs sing racial songs that would only have affect on that race. like a national anthem, everyone would hear it but it would only really mean something to particular persons.that could work I guess. would still be a hassle but not nearly as bad.
if I recall correctly there is a bard like spell class, around chants etc. they've stated and it's been quoted that there are no music-based skills in darkfall.

Yes, currently no bardic skills in Darkfall. Perhaps some magical skills will replace the abilities you miss from previous games?
