Snagged this off the PS store today and spent a little while playing it.
After dropping a tie fighter into a room full of fighting soldiers, picking a rebel soldier up and throwing my lightsaber into him and then smashing him into the ceiling, etc etc, I was happy with the amount of destruction you can dole out.
This game is going to be absolutely epic.

pc?
I'm looking forward to the wii version, although theres no crazy physics, there is using the wii mote and multiplayer.

Yah, I might pick it up for the Xbox, although I'll end up renting it, because of the lack of multiplayer.
What really dissapointed me were the quicktime events for bosses. It made me feel detatched from the otherwise epic combat.

I just played the same demo and had a comletely different reaction, imagine that. It was cool the first couple seconds, but then the limits of the interface show themselves. Sure it is pretty, but even this short demo showed me how tedious and repetitive it will get. I was excited about this game until I played it.
It was like Devil Man Cry with some goth "dark" jedi. I hate Devil Man Cry style games, they are just a glorified DDR where you hit the same or similar bullshit combos and some snazzy camera moves and effects filters keep you entertained. The Jedi Knight games had better use of force powers AND better lightsaber combat.
WTF is up with people not dying with one hit from lightsaber? And wtf is up with the strawberry juice laser that AT-ST at the end shoots? It "pees" on you with this weak stupid laser attack, then stomps the ground (this attack does not effect the stormtroopers standing around its base, only you). Not to mention that it is tracking AND firing accurately at an acrobatic Jedi doing air dashes and double jumps.
Lazy developers think (and are probably correct) that the Euphoria engine and some fancy graphics and "goth, misunderstood, young, dark apprentice" character who holds his lightsaber in a new, cool way will sell the game. GTAiV made better use of the engine, play that to enjoy it. Yet again Lucas Arts more money =/= more quality. When will the Lucas name be redeemed.

I thought it was okay. My friends are telling me it's going to be "WTFPWN ZOMG AW3SOME"... I just don't see it.

Devil Man Cry, Mantoe? Devil Man Cry?
I enjoyed it. It lacks any type of advanced gameplay for sure, but I can see myself blowing quite a lot of time just finding new ways to torture/kill people. Force gripping an enemy and watching him grab on to the arms of other enemies while flailing around in the air makes for the epic lulz.

wow... good to know about the negatives
i'm happy that my wii version will have wiimote light saber action and multiplayer dueling.
theres another star wars coming out for wii based on the clone wars animated series and movie , that also has multiplayer dueling, lucas is showing us Wii owners some love.

Wiimote lightsaber action sounds pretty sweet, I have to admit.

Only if it is where you swing your wii remote and the same thing happens onscreen. I predict it will be crap like most Wii games.

Never played with a Wii before, just figured it would be "swing the wii remote and the same thing happens onscreen". Otherwise, what's the point?

Thats normaly not how it works from what i gather. I've played the wii at my mates house once or twice and its quite fun to play with mates but nothing special.

DingDingDing We have a winner! The wii version is indeed not 1:1 lightsaber combat with the wiimote but rather the type where you can flick left and he will attack left. Its just a button that you "press" by moving the remote.

Oh well, that's still better than pushing a button on a control pad.
I wonder if they'll ever make a VSIM game for the Wiimote that has real time combat.

That would be some of the coolest shit. They just need to port over Jedi Knight II to the wii and give it VSIM. I can just see the hands/heads/limbs flying.
With the new wiimote attachment 1:1 movement is possible apparently so maybe the next Star Wars or Red Steel game will have it.

Not realy, you'll probably still be pushing the buttons on the wii mote for most of the time. The wii could of been wtf awesome but instead its jsut a fun console to play with your mates that gets boring pretty fast all the same.

Oh, well that certainly explains why it's by far the most popular console and everyone says it's a blast to play.

Wii has the best potential. Sadly only first party games are very good games that developers spent a lot of time with the wii mote (and a few 3rd party games ofc). I believe we will be seeing many good games for the wii by 3rd party companies in 2009-2010.
The force unleashed cotrols, I think for the wii the wiimote acts like an analog stick depending on where you push the controller a swing in that direction occurs, but it is prefixed not 1:1. Still it's a nice try, the best they could do with this technology. Now with the attachment a 1:1 star wars game will be possible in the future.

The main problem with the Wii is all the crappy ports it gets it seems with most of the attatchements they're trying to make it more like the 360 and ps3

This game is the sole reason that I have not gotten rid of my WII yet. To me it looks like the only game that might be fun on this system.

You have 5 "directions" for the Wii light saber combat.
Up, down, left, right and stab.
That's the most in-depth the game gets there.

I was excited for the game before I played the demo - in the 20 minutes or so it took to play through it, I was already bored.

They hyped the shit out of that game.
And it just wasn't fun to me...
At all.
You do the same stupid thing over and over. There are like 6 combos. You are virtually invincible and well...
It doesn't really look THAT good..

Yeah throughout the development I was amazed that they were willing to let players start off like a tank. Hopefully the combat will become more difficult later in the game.

there is a new attachment coming out for the wiimote that gives 1:1,
so no doubt in the years to come we will see another light saber game with 1:1
I don't care if force unleashed ISN'T 1:1, its still better then button mashing.

It looked pretty good on the PS3 with a nice TV. /shrug

It looks fine on my 42" Samsung + PS3...looks aren't the problem. The fact that those 15 minutes consist of the exact same thing over and over = the problem.
Picking shit up and throwing it is fun for 2 minutes....and honestly, its a fucking lightsaber; no limbs falling off and guys taking 3/4 hits to kill them? failure.

When the sword in the game moves exactly as the same way you move your hand.

Just wanted to chime in and say that the demo is average, mediocre, generic, etc. The game won't be any different. It's sad watching a bunch of people hyping an obvious tech demo.

Frankly, I'm most pissed off with how the lightsaber handles, I've known that the wii wouldn't be 1:1 for a few months now. But the fact that the lightsaber is just a reskinned baseball bat pisses me off. They should have done it like in the Jedi Knight series where the limited range of the lightsaber is compensated by its one-hit lethality. Flying limbs 4tw.

Not realy. i'd rather "button mash" on my ps3 while the game looks good and has more gameplay too it then wave my controller around like a prick on worse looking, less advance, less gameplay wii version. Oh and you'll still probably be button mashing on the wii aswell.
