Currently the USA is winning the Olympics but I wouldn't place China far off from winning since they're right behind USA, although their main sport (Gymnastics) is over. Anyway, who do you think will win?

China lead the medals table from start to finish.......

Its only one country on the planet that bases the medals table on the total number won as opposed to the value as such of each medal.

yea, actually they did just end last night apparently, and US had the most medals, while china had the most gold medals.

The Netherlands. in total numbers the USA has 110 and China 100 medals but only the USA counts that. The rest of the world goes with how many gold, China has 51, USA 40 or something.

In America we go by how many medals a nation has not by golds.

The US is unique but its not something that changed recently, just typical American exceptionalism.

Personally I think the Chinese accomplishment this year is more impressive.

So you invent your own ranking system?

It's over and china won, unless you're going by how many medals were won in which case the U'S just won but only the US does that all of a sudden because they can't stand losing. China does well in gymnastics but they dominate in diving, table tennis, badminton and weightlifting aswell. Britain came 4th!!! Fucking russians, i thought they would come back.

Whoever got the most points win!

That only counts in gymnastics (i think). We have a 14 year old diver who keeps losing.

None, the China cover up system is far more advanced than any other. They'll send fake birth certificates and passports and whatever else to the IOC until the IOC gives up or are satisfied.

Actually there are different age restrictions. Like in men soccer you have to be under 23 (there were 2 or 3 older players, they got a special permission from the IOC).
For female gymnastics there is a minimum age of 16.
I doubt the chinese gymnasts were 16 already, but how could you prove it?

All in all, the chinese did great. They achived their goal of 50 gold medals, like they foretold and from what I hear, the overall atmosphere was good.

USA had some really bad luck, but did well I think. I was really disappointed when I saw the relay runs disaster, two medals flushed away...

To me the UK was the winner this year! They did so well in cycling, it was unbelievable!
The aussies did pretty good as well.
Germany won the most gold medals ever, but we had like 10 medals less in total, compared to the last 20 years.

oh and:

We did the same as the US in the relays, but they wouldn't of won the mens and would of lossed the womens one aswell if jamaica didn't fuck up.

I don't think there's an official way to say who "won" the olympics, people are probably just repeating news propaganda. I always considered total medals won to be the best "overall", but the proportional count of gold vs. silver vs. bronze on a point system seems like a decent way to do it too, I guess. I suppose it just depends on whether you're more interested in "total first place wins" or total overall performance.

I think it's funny that the US's men's and women's teams both won exactly 53 medals each.

The best way is the amount of gold medals since if you didn't get gold you still lost. Only America does total medals just to be a pain in the arse.

Hahaha I love the support we give our young athletes in Britain.

Anyway I don't think China will do so well next year when they can't influence the judges and get their underage athletes in as easily.

We did well, and if we decided to use the medals to population ratio as a way to decide who won, we did!!!! God save the Queen!

You can't "win" the olympics.

Let every country send in the same amount of athletes, then we can talk about winning.

You're right they would really have to totally re-organize the events if you wanted to get a true representation of the most powerful nation. I personally think all you need is one event though: Tug o'War.
