I don't know if this has already been asked. The search function didn't give me any good results.

But will one or more of you devs be at the faire or at GCDC on august 20th (trade visitor & media day)? I expect you'll be there making publishing deals, right? =D

Don't think so, considering how the use to deal with press and media.

I think they were there behind the scenes showcasing something out of a laptop. About one or two years ago. Maybe they'll do it again as we're now "closer to release". =D

Since the European based distrobution deal is done at this point it would be a rather silly reason to go.

However I believe one or two members of the team will be in town, but I can't confirm what their role at the convention will be.

Yea I figure there'd be no point in going to preview the game considering release is this year and we'll be able to play it ourselves via beta. Still, anything new is always fun. :D

I disagree

GC is in germany, germany is in europe

Greece is in Europe

Gc the most important fair of europe, games

and is the last exhibition this year, removing the TGS of japan

I think, really, illogical, "" stupid, not to present the game in Gc, as the game goes this year

besides, for this is the distrubuidor of you not?, to promote the game, and that the best place GC of germany

pd:
I assure you that if, aventurine cares a little more, just a little more than promote your game

1-2 months 1 million players

a question silly?

you have enough server, for the avalanche of players, when you leave the street Darkfall

Mothly game information
Unfortunately, due to our visit to Epic Games and the upcoming Game Convention we are not going to release any new information for Mortal Online this summer (July/August). Due to our tight schedule we have to prioritize working on the game itself and the surrounding development (as well as getting some rest for a week or two). We are sorry for this and promise to do our best to compensate for it when time allows us to.

As far as I understand it, Aventurine is running a pretty low-budged marketing/PR-strategy for DF. They've mostly shifted their communications budged (manpower) in community building and some media relations (online). Being a small company with their first game, this is pretty smart.

-> No one expects them to have a booth at GC.

Still, I'd have loved to meet one or two of the devs and maybe have a look at some low-tech-presentation of the game. But probably they don't have the time to compile yet another offline demo-version of the game.

PS: I'll be at the Mortal Online booth. It's good to keep an eye on the competition, right? =D

PS: I'll be at the Mortal Online booth. It's good to sabotage the competition, right? =D

fixed.

I think DF will be a game that gets passed around by word of mouth. Most of the people I know found out about it by word of mouth. Granted its to be expected with the lack of PR, but still. People are more interested to check out a game their friends tell them about than something a magazine talks about anyway.

Besides with how large/devoted/fanatic this community is, we can easily spread the word of the game for them

Wel

... Being a small company with their first game, this is pretty smart.

Right.

Their business strategy is ridiculous, it doesn't matter what kind of arguement they use. If they want to make this game successful there should be marketing - not just the shitty kind of marketing that's going on right now.

I swear to god if they would just get an intern from a college or uni in greece, he could produce a quality podcast & gameplay video every week.

Aventurine need to publicate their upcoming movies and infos to other big sites like Ign... They also need a cool cinematic trailer.

I think Mortal Online will fail. when I hear that they are using Unreal engine and Grome (same as Aoc) I think of a laggy restricted game there you can't do anything...

Mortal Online (Starvault) thinks more of graphics, like AoC, a lot of people think that's good, untill they play the game....(laggy as hell)

Aventurine have put a lot of time into the game and the gameplay, the graphics comes after.

Why are these Devs not interested in any form of advertisement?

They seem to think the game will speak for itself and knowledge of it will just spread that way.

While it might make them seem to have confidence in their product, I'd say it can be seen as foolhardy, even. It just seems like a big risk to me, unless they are planning to start advertising / hyping the game soon.

Teth

Because there is hype, and then there is advertisement. Advertisement is what you do when you actually have a product to sell. Hype is for when you don't have a product yet.

The devs believe in advertisement, but not in hype. Hype always ends up coming back to bite you in the ass in the long run.

Considering that virtually everybody on these forums right now heard about the game through word of mouth, it's obviously been working pretty well so far...

Knocky

A little FYI to the Devs.

Just because I happened to have stumble across this game does not mean another quarter of a million people will find this game by accident.

"If you build it, they will come" is a lie dreamed up in Hollywood.

So you admit they are not even trying to sell this game to a producer in North America? Yes I know this thread is about a Euro "E3", but where were you during NA's 2008 E3?

I'd say at least half of the people here came across Darkfall via Muffins' video on Youtube... you know the one. I know I did. I always get the impression people might be reluctant to advertise the game or mention it on forums and such solely because it has hardly been advertised and therefore has this vaporware stigma attatched.

You can't convince people to buy your stuff if you have no way to sell it.

We just did a member purge, I'm thinking. Numbers were way higher a month ago.

In the past, DF devs at E3 have gone around with a little demo version of the game and peddled it to developers. They found numerous groups who were willing to publish Darkfall, but none who were willing to do it on terms Aventurine found acceptable.

True. However, as is the case with a good number of people on these forums, they here from word of mouth. So if they build it, some will come, then those people will tell more people, and they will tell more, then bigger companies will find out about it.

I'm not saying they shouldn't advertise, but they have 50k users on these forums, and who knows how many more users that come here but don't make accounts. Its working so far. Theres no point hyping or advertising something that isn't out yet.

Besides if they have 5 million people interested in the game by the time it comes out, the servers will be crowded and laggy.

Though seriously, I am sure the house that sold for $1 up in Detroit CLICKIE (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080813/METRO/808130360/&imw=Y) wasn't done on term acceptable to that bank either. Purhaps you should build your own server farm in NA and sell the game via download if you cant find a producer here that meets your stringent demands?

"You"? Since when am I an employee of Aventurine?

And the devs have said in the past that they are willing to do precisely that, but it's going to take longer than their EU situation where they did find an acceptable publisher who didn't want creative control or rights to the IP.

Knocky

The only kind of marketing this game needs is a playable demo distributed to popular and big name game review sites. It will spread like wild fire after that, for better or for worse. Its time to kick it to the guillotine and see what the masses want to happen from there. C'mon aventurine, you're baby is going to have to grow up and leave home eventually...

Yes I know this thread is about a Euro "E3", but where were you during NA's 2008 E3?

GCDC leipzig is about 10x the size of E3 first of all. secondly, E3 has seen a large number of game studios withdraw from the convention because the organisers have gotten too greedy, consequently E3 is effectively only Sony, Nintendo and Microslop now. E3 is dead.

My favorite comparason of DFO and Mortal Online, in these forums we get things said such as "why the fuck should the Devs tell you anything about the game" but on Mortal Online there is a poll on the front page asking for your opinion on what you want to know more about.

This is amazing seeming as Darkfall is so close to release and Mortal Online isn't due this year.

Darkfall Devs need to step it up a notch! (But then again I'm waiting for an answer like the above)
