DFO Rating?

I'm rather new to the game, seeing as I discovered it 2 days ago. I have probably read everything there is to read, but I still have a few questions.

1. What will DFO be rated?

Will there be blood?
Will there be gore?
Will there be nudity?
Will there be swearing from NPCs?


2. Why doesn't DFO plan on being big?

I know they plan on being big, but people have said that there will be only one server, and that the servers will only hold 10 000 people. Will they classify some other servers that will be added as RP?

They will add more server if needed, but i think the rumour os only one server at launch is a load of crap. Cos just looking at the forums they know they will need more than 1 server.

No RP designated servers (not yet anyway, hopefully they will change there mind :P )

10,000 *simultaneous* users isn't exactly small..?

If I had to wager, I'd bet there is blood/gore to some extent. Nudity, not really sure, but does that matter? I mean, my chick toon in AoC did have a very nice rack, but its not like it added to my gameplay. They had no special abilities. :( If this game isn't rated "M" I'll be very surprised.

Rating really doesn't matter. "M" will attract more kids than "E" rating..

30,000 people online at any given time? According to warcraftrealms in June 2008 the "Active Primetime Players" across EU and US realms (of which there are like 230-250?) was just under 800,000. If you do that math, that just doesn't equal up to your claim of 30,000 simultaneous users. Anyhow, I don't care to debate that topic, because I simply don't care about it, lol.

You are missing a key point here: Darkfall has no instances. If a WoW "server" hypothetically has 30,000 people online (which I HIGHLY doubt), then what, 90% of them are in little slices of Arena, battlegrounds and instances that aren't really on the "server" per se. They are off in their own little worlds. This is VERY different from Darkfall IMHO.

My guess is at a 15 rating,since Darkfall isn't exactly focused on being a 'Mature' game although it does contain blood & gore.

Considering that there is decapitation (or at least will be at some point), I imagine it will be rated M. (Though the devs quite distinctly don't intend to have nudity; they've made plenty of statements that make that quite clear.) As for Darkfall's size, it does intend to be fairly large. 10,000 simultaneous users for a server at peaktime requires about 50,000 total subscribers on said server (by comparison with EVE Online). Darkfall does intend to have one server at launch (probably one for North America and one for Europe, actually), but they are perfectly willing to put up more if the demand is there. I would imagine Darkfall will probably have about 5 servers when all is said and done.

Oblivion had bloodier effects and was going to be rated T until some people hacked it and put in nudity. I doubt it will be M, and even then, considering how most kids today get Grand Theft Auto, etc, what will it matter.

I don't know what it would take to give a game a mature rating. Some games don't have it and deserve it, others have it and you find yourself asking, why? Okay, if this game deserves it, you have a lot of backtracking and reevaluating of other titles to do.

I do think it'll get a mature rating though. But then again, I could be wrong... You know what's funny? City of Heroes is rated teen and got a rating of violence and 'suggestive themes.' I can go along with that.

Lineage II is rated teen and got a rating of... Violence. So you really don't know what they're going to do when it comes down to it. However, a game isn't rated mature just because people who play it are foul mouthed. It may in fact receive a rating of teen and have a disclaimer inside telling you that, 'Gameplay experience may change during online play.' As if we didn't already know. Oh wait, I forgot, legalities.

Yeah, in the end it doesn't matter.

If a game is rated E, only kids will play it.

If a game is +18 then adults will play it... And so will a lot of annoying little kids.
