The whole part of the bars/pubs/whatever in UO was to RP and all that kind of bullshit.

Some like to RP, I'm sure some players will open bars if even they have to drag rocks into a circle to make the building\put tables in the middle of no where (were this possible)\stand and shout.

I like the idea of being able to tame a bear or pet. I dont like the idea that EVERYONE can do it with this game if were to be implimented. Everyone with a bear or dog following them around would eventually become an eye soar on my part and would make the game seem sort of how to say... weak in the variety aspects?
As for the bar and pubs. You could always create your own and sell the drinks as alcohol if you do enjoy roleplaying. Nothing wrong with pretending its alcohol if you are already pretending to be a bartender.

I would hope so, I have always wanted to run a Tavern in a mmorpg.
the Uo taverns were great. everyone getting drunk, playing chess, fighting each other, people raiding them.. all good stuff.

Well when you get a house, get a vent server, advertise it so people come on, then we all get drunk IRL.

<3 Player run bars! We had a whole town pop up around one on my UO server!
It's more than just for RP though, it gave something for people to do besides run around and kill shit, like the board games and betting on darts, and a fun place to hold a dueling competition or something like that. Plus it had other purposes, like the owner marking up storebought booze for profit so people could get it without going way into town, and the one I was in had a chef that made whole meals in backpacks that you could just pick up and go that were presented well and looked good, plus you can always throw an armor or weapons or clothing vendor in there too, etc.
Player Run Taverns ftw!

Missing the point of the game, you're not meant to pretend. If people who are inclined to the crafting sort of role can make a genuine profit by setting up taverns in various guild cities or whatever then the devs should add it in. I mean you can already get buildings all they'd need to do is add the drinks. :D

I hope a tavern building of any kind exists, purely for roleplaying. It'd also add atmosphere to a clan city.
This makes me wonder though how extensive the city building is. Unfortunatly, with all the recent announcement it's pretty likely it's not going to have any other purposes then help people in clan warfare/PvP instead of having alternative purposes.

I'm sure that after the launch, when things have settled a bit the devs will be all up for adding things to build the atmos, but right now I think they need to deliver something before the fluff to be honest.

My guess, judging from the rate of progress so far, is that they will be fixing bugs and tweaking mechanics for a couple years before they can start adding any content. I don't think the devs care about RP, and we need things like prestige classes way more than bars, so atmosphere enhancement (which I would enjoy myself) might be a long time coming. It is too bad for the Drunken Beggars though.

We have housing don't we? What stops you of turning your house into a bar! :o
Then again, such a place might place in this game... non-guild crafters/miners will need a place to find and hire protection... could be a non-RP reason to have such a thing.

my most fun memories of UO are not of pvp or dungeon hopping, I remember days where I had my small house on Yew bay and my boat docked right there. My group of friends at the time would hang out there, play chess, cut wood, spar, and work on skills etc, and of course fight the random pker that came our way.
then when we got bored we would jump on the boat and go sailing, raid some places, do some drunkin fishing.
THIS is how I want Darkfall to be, and why I CANNOT play games like EQ/WOW, where this is impossible.

Unfortunatly there has been no indication whatsoever of fluff in Darkfall. Sad really.

Certain fluff, such as taverns would make the game more immersive. Even though there is no alcohol, the taverns could still sell drinks and food which would attract players.

My goal with this game is to be a bad ass raiding pirate HOW THE HELL CAN I DO THAT WITH OUT THE RUM!!!!!
Options:
1. Be a sober pirate....aka lame loser sitting on a boat ALONE because no one goes boating with out beer.
2. Get trashed in real life while boating around... Note raiding is much harder when you get wasted and start missing your keys and spilling beer on the keyboard.
I know what option ill be doing.

I find it funny that WoW has alcohol and DF doesnt.
Turns out there is one thing better over in WoW than DF...
RIP drunken raid parties... RIP

or u could try option three the lamest of them all pretend to be wasted while all your other pirate buddies are looking at u thinking that they are playing with a 10 year old.

that was a great time.
but in UO it only worked since every object and item in the world could be placed down and picked up (including bottles and jars and so on)

I hope for player run bars. I need to bone up for college! What better way to do that then raise my Beer Chugging skill to 100? At 100 I can take a whole keg and shove it in my bag for future use

I really hope that players can run a bar or inn. Some of my fondest memories of UO take place inside of a player run tavern called The Hungry Hobbit.
I'll spare you the details for now, but the girl who ran it was a wonderful lady who was fiercely protective of her property.
Regardless of whether or not a feature like this is considered "fluff", fluff can make a game that much stronger. DFO has a lot of features that have been missing in MMORPGs since UO. However, if the devs do not give all the necessary tools roleplayers need to forge a strong community, the game is going to suffer from it. Whether you agree or disagree, this is a fact.
There is a lot of potential in DFO for player created content that previous MMO's have chosen to leave out because they considered it "fluff". Player created content is much stronger than game created content and it can extend the life time of a game exponentially.
ALL of my best memories in UO revolve around events that were powered by players. Just food for thought.
Actually IMO pubs and things like this are necessary even past just the rum and beer. The devs have said that players will need to eat or their stats will decay because of hunger. Now if you have people creating pubs and taverns and things like such it creates a new player run business. Now, food and things will definitely be needed, but rum and beer will more than likely be the main money makers for these taverns because it's for the role players. Now this fuels the economy.
Here's the basic cycle.
Customer's Money => Pub Manager (food) => $$ Goes to suppliers for ingredients => suppliers need new weapons => Crafters Sell weapons/Armor => Back to the suppliers => Suppliers need food for stats to get meat etc. easier => Back to the Pub Manager
That was just something I came up with off the top of my head, there is a lot more to be considered but it gives a lot more to the game.

Still, no matter what role players will just make their own bars and drink water wotever the game has if they have to, but remember this age old saying.
If you build it, they will come, then get drunk, then trash your place, and loot all your leet lava lamps

Well players do need food, maybe if they did add booze it could give you a temp. power-up :D Would add even more reason to visist a tavern/bar.
