after reading this article i was think about how a part of this game will involve trading. unlike alot of games you actually have to travel alot of the times to get your goods somewhere and thats actually really sick

also it will force some kind of interactions between certain guilds sometimes in which a person needs some wood or something like that so they ask on the trade forum and a guy from another guild responds and he has to travel from his guild city to theirs with some valuable loot on him and deliver it to the guild city and trust that they wont kill him and steal his loot when he gets their so he might have to bring bodygaurds to back him up

its a really awesome system and could spark some cool random pvp battles too

Yes, it is cool. But not so cool you have to make a thread about it.

Ideally, the way it will work, is there will be particular mobs near particular cities (yes I know they migrate, but that will add diversity to what I'm about to say). So what will happen is, those mobs will be most effectively killed with a particular strategy and items; such as the Fire Elemental (generic, I know) will take extra damage from a holy water potion that is thrown at it. Soooo... the town that is near the Fire elementals will carry a lot of those potions. When the fire elementals move on, the vendor will have to change their selling strategy.

Its very dynamic.

As for going to another town and buying items. I personally will have a mage that can recall to my main and only goto the cities with the most amount of protection in it.

Ideally, the cities will the most protection will ensure that the buyer wont be PK'ed/stolen from at the spot. So the large cities with the most defense will:
1) Be the safest and best place to buy wares.
&
2) Be the hardest to be taken over, thus securing a steady supply for the consumer.

The cities with lacking protection for its customers will have to lower its prices, compared to the protected cities, as that will be the only reason for people to shop there.

I heard somewhere that you could also use magic as transportation, so if you know magic, then you should be good with travel

Well, considering one method is very expensive and takes some time, and the other is dangerous, most people will d it the old fashioned way.

You will be able to teleport with Runes. However runes are extremely expensive and must be on your character to be used. Also you must mark in advance the location you want to travel to, thus you have to go there first on foot and mark it magically, then after that you can sue the rune.

On subject of the OP, we can only hope that is still in as they have already changed their mind and added "central banking" which imo was wrong in a game like this.

They've said that magic travel, done by the player will exist through recall runes (like in Ultima Online) except much more expensive and lengthy, in UO it takes 3 seconds to recall to somewhere on the opposite side of the world and marking the rune you wanted to recall to was the only reason a mage would have to travel. In this game, marking alone takes the lengthy process of getting to the location, then a 40-50 second cast and recalling requires a fairly long cast (in comparison to UO)

Edit: Goddammit Wolve replying before me!

Magic for travel or a charm/skill for traveling long distances is a great idea. I have no intention of hiking it for 20-30 minutes as you have to do in AoC, dumb asses!

Well, unless, your a walking bank, you will have to. If you don't want to walk or ride, DF is not the game for you.

Travel times here can be even more extreme than in AoC, however AoC was linear, your course was predetermined....here in Darkfall you can get lost :) Go where you want to, no roads are predetermined.

There will be some insta travel like City recall (whatever city your character is bound to), Runes Stone travel (not sure if there will be a limit to the amount of runestones you can carry, but must be on your person to travel and as said before REALLY expensive), and of course mounts...

Now keep in mind Alfar for the most part will travel underground via the maze of caves that will exist for them, so their paths will be partly determined. Of course Alfar can travel above grounds with the revisions made to the race, but due to the hatred by other races, they may be wise to keep themselves below the surface.

so will there be no npc service that involve magic travel?

Another consideration in trading is clan relations. Clans that have just declared war on each other are going to have a higher demand for weapons, armour, arrows, spell reagents etc.

AS far as I've read so far from all the interviews quotes and what not, no there won't.

I personally find these NPC insta travel w/e u wanna call 'em pretty gay coz imho all they do is rob the gaming community of some awesome open PvP scenarios like the scenrio used by the OP where u'd raid a merchant caravan.

Also putting in travel NPC's and to many insta travel options would remove the need for logistical warfare as u'd simply could port your whole army across the world with no hassle.

As it is now it's fine. Alot of ppl will whine and cry for more insta travel but I just hope the devs won't listen to them, coz for those folks this isn't really the game for them.

I think I've just messed myself. Thinking of Several Characters back at the Guild House, Working hard to make swords and Arrows while the others are out seigeing the city of the enemy. So cool!

That's pretty much the general idea of most clans.

t6hey have said spells like recall from UO are in and that it takes along time to cast and that runes are really expensive, what they haven't said is if runes wear out or have a limited amounts of uses on them.

In t6he most extreme example a rune would only work once, on the other end of the spectrum a rune would work for ever. I hope that they way DFO does it is some where in the middle.
