I know i am probably going to get flammed for starting this topic, but i have been following DF for a similar amount of time as the best of us. (Any crap about how many posts i have and BS about when i created my forum account and has no relavance to how long i have followed the game)

I was re-reading some of the dev journals today this one in particulare:-

I was reading this because of another thread that just recently started with regards to combat system.

Out of interest i looked at when this journal was posted and saw that it was there on the 23/2/07!! This is 1 year 5 months and some days! ago. Which you are probably wondering why is this even relevant. Well...in the text it says the following.

Right now there's a combination of hectic testing and demo activity, plus flu season owning us bad (especially me), but things are going very well and we will keep you updated on any noteworthy developments.

Now my question to the forum is:- Does anyone else get pissed off when they read that the game is in testing and coming close to beta? When they have been saying that for years and never delivered? Cause the example i gave above is only one of many however i really couldnt be bothered to link them all.

I'm sure it pisses off everyone. It's just that it has been going on for so long that there's already been a million threads about it and people are tired of reading them so they just /flameon as soon as they see one. Also, there's probably lots of people who have had to subdue their excitement about this game so as not to get their hopes up when "news" comes out about beta etc. and turns out not to be true. It's old-hat by this point.

Unfortunately today seems to be the latter.

It's a moot point. They've said that the game is coming out this year. That's why I'm not complaining anymore. All we can really do is see if the game actually comes out before Dec 31. If the beta hasn't even started by Dec 31, I'm probably giving up on this game.

Everything pretty much hinges on the video that's coming out this month. If it is as lackluster as the other videos we've seen, that's a pretty clear indication that the talk of the game coming out this year is pure unadulterated bullshit. But as I said, I'll wait until 12/31 to make a final judgment on DF .

Your getting flamed to hell for this already so I'll be honest, yes, I get pissed off at the lack of information as well but the way I see it Aventurine has until the end of August to prove to the player base that they have something genuine to show, the 2007 video showed a bit, but not enough, if the video doesn't release I'm not going to necessarily denounce the game as vaporware if it comes a bit later or if by some amazing breakthrough they release the open beta, but if nothing at ALL comes out of them this August or even this year then I gladly will make sure Aventurine bleeds because it shows that they are just not willing to commit to getting the game ready.

I don't care if Aventurine has done it before, because I haven't seen them do it, they've only been giving guesses so far, but I am sick to death of devs who even in single player games make release date and then don't get the fucking game finished and without bugs, in the first week of Mass Effects release the game wouldn't fucking run because they had a bug that stopped you from using the Galaxy Map.

Release it solidly and release it on time and I will be content, don't go promising the world to me and then just give me a blade of grass.

I love how children come and bitch about DF's development when its better then 90% of the games around. The only difference is the devs don't over hype the game and they don't put people into a shitty beta which eventually becomes the shitty version of release.

Trust me after being in the AoC beta for 2 years and 6 months, playing a shitty beta, that was broken, yet listening to the devs boast about all the cool things AoC was, while knowning it wasn't even in the beta for testing yet. You can really start to appreciate the proper and good method of the DF devs. They are actually following a solid development methodlogy.

Yes things get pushed back, and time lines change, and what you thought was going to happen doesn't. It's just the nature of developing a massive computer program / game.

Now other games miss a deadline and suddenly you get a "beta" thrown out which is really just a prolonged way to allow development. I can't remember the number of "delayed" features AoC had during beta. The devs would be like ok next week we are patching in the mounts, and class balances, and fixes for the graphics lockups. Then next week rolled around, we got the things happened, we won't have it ready for another 2 weeks, no one cared too too much cause well we were playing the game, "somewhat" however if they did that same thing as we can't launch beta for 2 weeks even though we said next week. People would be much more pissed.

We'll all buy the game when it does eventually come out, but in the mean time we'll play tangible things even though the reality of them is not even remotely comparable to the version of darkfall that currently exists in the realm of forms. So what can we do? Make the best of what we can play for now and worry about how much lube we'll need when darkfall comes out later.

It seems they have an already very active engaged community, they must be aware of it, could the devs not just jump on the forums every once in a while to just say things are going smoothly?

This is the only thing that makes me worry about this project....with people out there saying they don't even exist, that it's vapor-ware, these rumors are damaging, they need to be dealt with, it would take a dev 1.5 mins a week to just say, hey guys, thanks for the interest in our project...its going smooth.

I am still one who believes the game will come when the game comes, i will surely be buying the game whether it comes tomorrow or next year. I have been waiting years, whats a few more? eH?

Hopefully when they launch they dont launch with any bugs. Cause quite frankly they have delayed launch for this long due to fixing bugs, updating graphics and adding new features etc.

IMHO if they do not deliver a game with next to no bugs (As a completely bug free game will never exist straight from launch) then they will be an even greater joke than AoC.

If you're going to quote something at least make sure you know what you're quoting. Nowhere in that journal does he say they are close to beta. Just that they are in the process of (internal) testing. L2read.

I agree with this. I'm confident they will release this year because they seem quite confident in their own ability to do so. But we'll see...the end of the year isn't that far off.

I can understand why people are annoyed at this point. As for me, I've only been following DF since sometime in 06. I'm also a pretty patient person. So no, I'm not annoyed with the Darkfall Development Crawl. Working 6 days a week helps pass the time too... Can't wait til I get laid off in October :D
