Infinity is an open-ended game in which you control a spaceship throughought the entire galaxy, trying to make a name for yourself. You connect to an online server on which thousands of people are playing, 24/7. The game does not stop when you log off, but continues to evolve: it is a persistent universe. The game mechanics do not emphasize any particular gameplay style. Combat, trade, exploration, social relationships.. you are free to choose your own carrier path and goals. The only limit is your own imagination!

Infinity is not a traditional role playing game. Although all players are expected to act in concordance with their avatar's motivations, there are no classes or skills to restrict your choices. Combat between spaceships is in true real-time, and the outcome is determined by your own intelligence and reflexes. Forget turn-based action and experience the great excitement of a first person experience!

Using procedural techniques, the game universe has been designed to be huge and realistic. There are billions of solar systems and planets, each unique and awaiting to be discovered by a player. Coherent scales and distances are used, orbits of celestial bodies are correctly modeled and change continuously, allowing you to attend a sunrise on the moon of a giant planet, for instance.

I'm not really sure what that means, but I may agree with it.

It's been posted here a few times. Infinity is basically EVE+planetary landing+more space+FPS gameplay. It seems moderately likely to be vapor though, since its community is small (much smaller than forumfall), its devs are few (<10 iirc, far smaller than Aventurine with about 40 not counting professional testers), and its devs post even less often than Aventurine does.

On the flipside, they've released an online prototype of their FPS combat system with some of the ships in it. It's basically CTF in ships but it shows how the engine works. Having played it a little, it does work well. I don't think the servers are still up for it, though.

It's a good game idea, it has been just that for quite a while and I much doubt that it will become anything more then that, possibly smething less and released but not what they wanted to make to begin with.

Much like DF.

Yeah, this game is old news. I've been following it for a long ass time. You can actually download and play a flight demo which is pretty cool. I can see why people would say it is vapor, and it may very well never release, but considering you can actually play a portion of the game I wouldn't say it's any more vapor than Darkfall is. If it comes out, great, if not, oh well.

...make a name for yourself...

Yeah, grind for 12 hours a day, raid relentlessly, and plan your life around the game so that lesser pasties can look up to you. They make it sound like you'll be living the lifestyle of the rich and famous, rofl...

since 99% of the game is going to be randomly generated as i understand it, im not too skeptical about it releasing some day.

I like the size of the universe, and that it's all going to be random. Not because of gameplay or whatever, but simply because it shows how far we've come with home computers. This sort of immense, randomized 3-D universe has been possible to code for ages (well, in plainer graphics), but only now are PCs able to handle it.

The game looks like it could be fun, too.

I've played the demo looked nice but I'm still looking for a game where you can land a ship get out of it and fight on planets otherwise its just another space shooter to me just bigger.

There is planetary landing, although what exactly that constitutes is not known.

Partly why it piqued my interest, I just hope it's not stats based and doesn't have sticky aiming, at least they have the decency to show sort of exactly HOW far they've gotten instead of vague answers, oh wait, they took it down but at least they showed it for awhile lol.

I read on the Infinity forums that alpha testing won't start until early 2009. I've found posts with people eagerly awaiting a 2006 beta. Rofl, that's pretty sad, amirite?

EVE is already out.

Eve is crap though...It's more button bashing and clicking than any other game.

heck you dont even need to care where you steer your ship...into your friends..into your enemies...into a fucking rock...nothing will hurt it except enemy fire.

+ EVE sucks in the way that you can't do ANYTHING except drive your ship around in space, trade goods and blow up other ships.
You can't really explore anything, you can't even walk around the space station. All quests are EXACLY the same...bah it's just total crap.

Anarchy Online is a lil itsy witsy bit like that, you just don't have a ship really. You also have a singleplayer game called..hmm...well I forgot. It's massive anyway and you can explore planets and land on them etc...

Also startrek online seems to be like that when it comes out.

"Yes, this is actually one of the main interests of the game. Expect a lot of missions on planets. However, the game will not feature non-vehicle gameplay like walking with an avatar on planets or inside buildings."

Cool...From this infinity game thingy

ive read somewhere that the ppl behind infinity do it in their freetime, and aint professionals. so.. if it ever comes out, it probably wont be before 10 -15years minimum, unless some studio sometimes picks them up

Last time I heard about that game, there was only 1 developer if my memory isn't failing me. He was talking about the procedural creation of the world and it sounded amazing.

But I never thought it would go that far. If this is for real, I'm definitely trying it if only for the immensity of the universe that's created.

Scrolled through the posts, just telling you there is a combat prototype out. That the inifinity community plays every sunday around 8 PM GMT. Atleast they did a few months ago.

I don't think Infinity will be out anytime soon but I still check their website from time to time. An EVE with real time combat and without levels and shit, will be awesome if it ever gets done.

WARNING: DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE COMBAT SIMULATOR.

I DOWNLOADED IT AND NO OTHER PROGRAM SINCE IT...
WHEN I DOWNLOADED IT A BUNCH OF ADS STARTED FLICKERING AROUND MY SCREEN.
Haven't had popups in years since I know what I'm downloading most of the time at least and have decent protection.

Anyway...I'm not 100% sure but this was the only file I downloaded

EDIT: the only other thing I've checked out that's new to me is the site "cybernations"...Maybe they have a popup-financed program there. I'm not sure.

Someone please confirm it's not the simulator. in the FAQ it said "We might Ad-finance this game"...

I'm scanning my computer atm seeing what it is. Something might've slipped through.

I have never had any issues with the combat prototype either, except that I can't connect to the servers for it anymore (having gotten on about 3 times since it released). It's been sitting on my comp for months and months as well.

Speaking of which, has it been patched? Maybe that's the problem.

200bn systems? Even with a playerbase of 30k (isn't that what eve has?) your looking at one player every 33333.33 (recurring) systems.

That maths doesn't work for me.

EVE breaks 40k often and goes well over 30k daily (just for the record), but yeah, I see what you're saying. I think the idea is that the world basically just keeps going, but regardless, most people will be in the same general area. Even if they aren't held in the same area, they still won't be evenly distributed; in EVE hundreds of systems are empty at any given moment while Jita has at least 200 people in it at all times.
