Your penis is not a DVD. Take it out the player.

Step 1: stop pirating dvd's (if you follow this step skip down to Step 5)
Step 2: Continue Pirating DVD's but download convertx to dvd
Step 3: select the file and convert the weird format that your dvd player does not recognize into DVD format.
step 4: profit

Step 5: Buy new dvd player that plays weird formats like Divx and AVI

either it is an unrecognizable format or you scratched your shit up.

Well... could it be an old DVD player? If you burnt the CD, then it could be that your player can't recognise it.

TVs are for console players. Use your PC.

Its just playing hard to get. Take it out for a nice dinner, romance it up, and it'll play whatever you want all night long. BAM!

Check out the model of your DVD player on the net and see if it plays the DVDs you're trying to play. There are like 6 different DVD formats.

Check if your DVD player is NTSC or PAL (http://www.ihffilm.com/videostandard.html), and if the movie you're trying to burn is encoded in NTSC or PAL. Most new players coming out today play both with a built in converter.

Your DVD player has a region code (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_codes) and will only play DVDs of the same region code. Most DVD burning programs strip this code out of the DVD, making it what is known as region free.
