If you don't know how to build a computer or have never done it, its probably a good idea not to stress yourself out with it. Go to a shop and get some real help or find someone who will help you.

There's nothing wrong with Vista. Anyone who says it sucks either has never used it or tried to use it when it first came out with 8 year old hardware.
I think Vista is great, and you'd be a fool to go out of your way to put XP on a brand new machine.

Alright now I'm stuck. I am going to get all of that with Nvidia graphics card...
Should I get vista 64 with 4gb of ram or Windows XP with 2gb which will run better?

no.
Whats wrong with vista? I have heard people say it sucks. And some say it's great. Could you guys give me some pros and cons.
It's not that different from XP, or really any Windows since '95, in look and general function. However, it is different enough to occasionally make you want to strangle kittens when you try to do something you've done a thousand times in XP but they've moved the fucking buttons around in Vista.
Also, XP is still best performance wise because of it's smaller system reqs.
However, since it's not the current Microsoft OS, XP is destined to become completely obsolete sooner rather then later.
I run both an XP and a Vista machine (new one came with Vista) and I still prefer XP. I know it and it still does everything. Vista is still going through that buggy initiation phase (rotating in MSPaint makes half the pixels disappear sometimes, I mean seriously...MSPAINT!, and that fucking sidebar gadget thing phases in and out of some games, Oblivion for example) and I still can't find anything it does better then XP that will justify the added system reqs.
However, since you're buying a new rig I'm still going to have to suggest Vista. The kinks will get ironed out, to the best of Microsofts ability, and you'll get use to it. Plus, it'll be kept up to date, while XP goes the way of previous Windows versions.

If you are getting 4GB of RAM, go with Vista 64bit. If you are getting 3GB or less, XP 32bit.

You don't necessarily need 64-bit. Vista Ultimate 32-bit can handle 4 gigs of RAM flawlessly.
And why not take advantage of DX10?
Also, if you're not sure what you're doing, then don't build up from scratch. Buy a barebones kit (Case, motherboard, processor, RAM, PSU all-in-one).
That way, all you need to worry about is a Video card, Hard Drive, and OS (Maybe a heatsink ... maybe). It will make shit way less complicated, and then you could post which one you want. After that, show us what video card you want, and i'm sure someone will tell you if you can use it or not.

What kind of advice is that?
32bit can recognise up to 3.5GB of RAM, but this is reduced with more cards added. Also a barebones kit is bad, not customisable enough, plus if you just put all that together yourself, it would likely be cheaper.

I'd highly recommend getting a HD4870 instead of a GTX 260. It's faster. The HD4870 even beats the GTX 280 in a couple of games. And get a different power supply.

I agree with this btw, nice investment.
On the Vista note you will need 4gb just to run the darn thing but you said the PC will be used for gaming. Sooner or later (i hope) games will be developed using direct10x which won't be supported on XP (how nice of 'them').
On a side note, I know nothing about Intel sockets as i hate the things but make sure the socket will be in use for some time (AM2 over 939).
P.S, Did'nt actually see this on your PSU till now.
Aparently the 12v rail that carries power to your GFX card, doesn't give out the whole 12 volts, instead it only gives out 4.93 volts, which is very LOW! This creates problems in every game you play, doesn't matter if it's old or next-gen game, the lack of power to the GFX card will make your screen black out with all controls (gamepad, keyboard, mouse) unresponsive within 5 seconds to 45 minutes of gameplay!

On the vista point: as of now, vista provides pretty much no benefit overall. It is much more stressful on the computer than XP is. Its one nice feature is its search bar built into the start menu that actually works pretty damn fast, and finds what you're looking for. It also has DX10, which is currently useless for all games except things like Crysis, but will be necessary soon enough :bang:
My basic suggestion (which is reminiscent of what I'm planning to build soon, although not the same)
Cannibalize your current HD and CD drives
Get a Radeon HD4850
Get a decent C2D or AMD X2 (for gaming the processor is rarely the bottleneck honestly. This should be socket AM2, not Socket 939, so you can use a mobo that can use DDR2 RAM (just learned this the other day, heh)).
Get 3 GB of DDR2 RAM (maybe 4 or 6 if you're getting vista 64, though nothing will likely consume that much RAM)
Get a mobo that can fit it all (don't scrimp on this; don't worry too much about the mobo being SLI or Crossfire ready, but don't get a cheapass mobo either)
Get a PSU that can take all that (don't scrimp on this or you will fuck yourself)
Cannibalize your current case if everything will fit
If you have some money left over, upgrade your graphics card first (an HD4870 might be your best bet if you have extra money), then I'd say your processor (since the RAM is basically as good as it can be)

- Not true.
32-bit is limited to 4,096 megabytes of virtual address space on a 32-bit operating systems - so the RAM is not wasted, just used for MMIOR - completely independent of the OS running on the machine.. Which is completely beside the point that nobody needs that much memory.
- Being able to use DX10 is very valid advice.
- Barebones kits aren't bad, because OP doesn't know how to build a computer.

You don't need 64 bit os if you're only going to game, since there is no game that is designed for 64 bit os . About the time when most games will be 64 bit we will have Windows 7.
