View Full Version : RP guilds! Lets all roll on the same server!

Given that there will be no official RP servers, I feel that it may be prudent for all RP guilds to organize and all roll on the same server.

A similar thing was done in Age of Conan with the Wiccana server, and it seemed to work out well for them. (I don't know first hand... there's no way I'd play a PvE server lol)

If you are in an RP guild, please reply to this thread if you are interested in doing this. Once the server names are released, we can discuss which one to roll on.

I figured it would be best to wait and see what servers there will be, then set up a poll to see who's joining what. I'm personally hoping most of us end up in the same server.

There was a Wiccana server? Did you guys all sit in a drum circle and dance with fat chicks?

I personally always found griefing other would-be-griefers to be the most satisfying.

I also believe all the RP guilds should stick to one server. :).

I am amazed at all the RP guilds that are floating around here. Does everybody think they will last for long in the game?

Shadowbane I remember a few that stuck around, Redemption, Dragonscale and the Elves allied with DS, but for the most part the savage game mechanics of looting and few safe zones drove most away. DFO mechanics are more hardcore, there will be a hold out of few guilds but I predict 6-8 months after release we'll see a big drop off.

Necro thy thread ftw.

This thread fails anyhow.

How do you come to this conclusion? Why do RPers have to be second rate players? Does staying in character make you a worse fighter? Who says RPers can't handle full loot and high competitiveness? SB was not as good as DF hopefully will be. This game has much to offer the RPer, perhaps enough to make them stick with it instead of dropping out as you saw in a totally different game that was popular years ago.

I am all for an RP server. We will have to see how many NA servers there are. Getting all the RP clans on one server would be tough, though, because i think many clans that say things like 'RP optional' or 'RP encouraged but not enforced' will probably be willing to roll on the non-RP server in order to run with the big boys. For example, Hyperion might go non-RP server because they figure the best battles and most interesting politics will be there.

I think people misunderstand roleplaying and the people who roleplay,

I don't want to hear about your Real life troubles, you don't want to hear about mine, I want to focus on the game, forget about my Real Life troubles and have fun.

I come to this conclusion by experience, but your right it IS a different game. But the harshness of SB is not as harsh as DFO will be so I stick to my prediction.

Never once have I rated RPers second rate, my experience shows me that by following the lore most of the time you have to gimp yourself. Gimping yourself in a game like this usually has bad consequences.

You are right about the gimping. Sacrifices of some kind always have to be made for good RP. However, this doesn't mean that RP guilds will quit, they just won't commonly be powerhouses. DF has no conceptual equal. It is either stick it out or go play something entirely second rate. For this reason, I think a lot of RPers will stick it out. Look at Hyperion- an example of second rate RP guilds trying to hack it already exists pre-game.

RPers are hardly second rate. I don't think we are any more nor less than any other player in terms of skill and dedication.

Some stay, some leave. But with Darkfall, it is likely that more will stay than leave.

Roleplay doesn't mean constantly typing in things like "The warriors entered the cave slowly, they spoke not for the fear of waking that which slumbered." *Enters cave*

It just means they wont be going "LOL, I uber pwned that fell dragon with moi Epixx!"

It's hard to know if hardcore RP guilds will survive in-game. However RP clans like my own and the Red Order for example, which don't plan to hold any territory (I assume it's this way for RO atleast) won't go down that fast, simply because the only thing that can destroy these clans is if the members themselves don't wish to continue on anymore.

Just because we aren't a zealous military religious order, we are second rate... these are sad times indeed when one would make uncalled for outrageous remarks.

So far, the view I have on Hyperion is that they are just as much fun to be roleplaying with as any other.

But then again, I might be nuts because I would even enjoy roleplaying with random guys, as long as they keep it IC in /say :o

Disagree with this statement. It might not be hardcore but Ingame Politics are a part of ROLEPLAY. So I see the best ingame politics and actually battles being between two rp guilds.

Okay, I didn't mean their/your RP is second rate Theodoric, I just meant that many of these clans are not very large, powerful, or experienced compared to a lot of inter-game clans that will move to DF. I would put AB/RO in the same category. I also agree that the political arena would be much more interesting with an RP focus, but I can see how most non-forumfallers that come to the game after launch will prefer to follow the movements of the bigclans (i think RPers are overrepresented on these forums).

All I know is I've done rather well for myself in past fps games like rogue spear(2nd place in an msn-zone sponsored tourney, in a number of guilds that ranked in the top 10 of a good 500-1000), bf1942/vietnam (casual but tended to lead), and a half dozen mmorpgs. I don't see why, by deciding to roleplay to make the experience even more enjoyable, I'll suddenly become a below-average player.

We'll have to wait and see I suppose. :p
