Diablo 1 Vs. Diablo 2

So I'm playing Diablo 1 right now and I saw/felt something that Diablo 2 lacks. Atmosphere.
The music combined with the surroundings makes this game crawl(ing) under my skin. Diablo 1 also has the Butcher.
Diablo 2 on the other hand is longer, has act III with the awesome enemies (pygmies with blowguns, freakin' awesome if you ask me) and it gives you more lore (Diablo universe kicks ass IMO).

So. Which game do you like more?

Edit: btw, just got into level 6 where you can enter the room to Skeleton King. However, I never activated it when I was on level 5. Is it possible to still activate the quest somehow?

I have the best memories from gaming diablo 1 but if I try to game it now its just not the same. Diablo 2 is a better game in terms of gameplay and longevit(spelled that wrong im sure)

Its the same as when I play fallout 1 it sucks compared to with number 2 cause of improvements in the gameplay and flow. Same goes with baldurs gate and warlords.

Only games where this isnt the case I can currently think of is morrowind vs oblivion, HHM 3 vs HHM 4, And warlords battlcry 2 vs warlords battlecry 3

If I remember correctly, some of the quests are random. For example, this time through the game you would get the butcher quest instead of King Leoric. But play through it again and you'll get King Leoric and not the butcher.

just did a quick search and this is what I came up with:

Curse of King Leoric or Poisoned Water Supply (you get 1)

Butcher, Gharbald the Weak, Ogden's Sign (you get 2)

Yeah this is correct. To the OP, I don't really know. I had equally great experiences from both of them, Diablo 2 with it's MP and Diablo with just it's scary atmosphere and fun gameplay. I'm just hoping Diablo 3 is as good as both of them.

I liked 1 because of its friendly fire, actually had to work as a team. D2 is hack and slash spam, although it is very fun. I hated not being able to run in 1, that is my only complaint.

diablo 1 was more atmospheric, but the multiplayer part of diablo 2 rocked. but i dont think it would still be playable.

i read through the forums a while ago and it seems the game turned into a cheating and duping pit.

I strongly disagree about Diablo 1 giving more lore. Diablo 2 shows you waaay more places then Diablo 1 (and thus tells you the stories of the different kingdoms, towns and so on) and, from what I've seen, also gives you more readable books that tells bits of the lore.

I love diablo 1 and 2. but I like 2 better.

1 was fucking scary as you kept descending deeper into the desecrated cathedral, the levels getting eviler as you got deeper (tileset change from church, cave, hell, etc) and the first time I encountered the butcher I nearly shit myself (freshhh meat)

I prefer diablo 2 because it was much larger, had a variety of settings (desert, swamp, nordic iceplace, hell)

I've stopped playing both because of the massive exploiting. I hope diablo 3 will have protection against that.

Aye i loved both but i think one has the upper hand because of the atmosphere its darker ect. So i voted for Diablo.(not 2)
