http://www.massively.com/2008/07/31/mythics-stance-on-monetizing-cut-war-content/
A thread/poll over at the Warhammer Alliance forums recently asked its denizens if they would be angry at Mythic Entertainment for charging money for the previously-cut Warhammer Online content via an expansion. The results appear to be drawn down the middle. While that may not be indicative of how the majority of players would feel about Mythic putting the previously talked about content in its first expansion, it's not the most important side to the story. The important thing to take from all of this is the post that Mark Jacobs makes very early on in the thread. He compares the cut content to a director cutting specific scenes out of a movie in order to make it a better experience and releasing said content at a later point on the DVD release.
If that analogy doesn't make things quiet clear, Jacobs helps assuage possible fears by ending his post with, "if/when we bring back those classes and these cities (sorry for the if, don't read more into it, just being careful) that players will not have to buy them from us as part of a paid expansion but rather just part of the content updates that we did so well for DAoC." We're happy to hear it and hope for an expedient release of that content. We really had our hearts set on being a Blackguard.

That's not really important news. Mythic are a pretty reasonable company and I don't think for a second would have charged people for that cut content.

I'd be angry if I were playing that game. Those parts that have been cut, they are an integral part of the fucking game. That's like charging them twice for the game.

Kind of goes against their speal about it making the game better with them being cut also.

If the expansion only contained features that were originally cut from the game and nothing else then I would tell them to go to hell. If it also contains new content, then I could probably live with it.

If those idiots think they can get my money they are sadly mistaken, I knew the game would be fucked over the moment they decided not to have an official forum, all that means is that they're getting damage control prepared before anything happens.

Speaking on Official Forums etc. do you think Darkfall Online will have it's offical website updated/improved/with it's own Dev run forum? Kind of like the EvE homepage or the WoW homepage. Would be nice.
As for the main topic of discussion, that's bs they can't charge you for things they've already promised with the orginal price you've payed.

But isn't Mythic just the first company to actually *ask* their customers, what they think of something that other companies just *do*?

mythic has never had official forums for any of their games.

I think they have showed that they wont let it be like that since they closed down the individual beta and pushed back the release date to focus on debugging, balance and ect.

Well they need to move ahead with the times, you need forums for online games, even when they are still in development.

It does kind of look like they are at least a decent company, especially since they were willing to cut content because it wasn't done, but then making people pay for content that should of been in the game? That's pushing it.

The dev said they wouldnt have to pay for but it would be in free content updates like they had in DAOC with housing and Darkness Falls.

WTF is with these idiots on the forums? You randomly insult a game because they change things in order to improve the state of the game? Why the hell is everyone so picky? Learn to enjoy a game for once.

My fanboi alarm went off when reading this.
So let me get this straight. You are willing to pay twice for a game because they are releasing it too early to put in all of their content at launch? You do realize how buggy the new stuff will be and you do know that Mythic has a track record of ruining their games with untested expansions right? I dunno. It seems like a bad idea to me.

Just another fucking WOW clone without it.

I was refering to the people who are bitching about Mythic cutting the content. Every developer removes content from their game. Atleast some have the balls to tell you the reason for their decision. Of course I would never pay for cut content and I won't even buy WAR if Darkfall is actually coming out soon.

Yes, every developer removes some content from their game. Not many have the moxy to ask if you would pay for it in an expansion because they are releasing the game unfinished.
What troubles me is what I quoted. Unfortunately you are like many others who must have a MMO to play all of the time. "...if Darkfall isn't actually coming out soon." is what you said, so I am taking that as if DF is pushed back or cancelled you would purchase their product. Why give money to assholes like Mythic at all? By you buying their product and supporting them, it gives them and others motive put out these fast buck P.O.S. games.

Actually, I havn't played an MMO for almost a year now. So, NO. I'm not the type to always be playing an MMO. I will never pay for a game until I see the game for myself and that goes for both WAR and Darkfall.

If you morons would actually look at the thread like I did, you'll see that the poll was actually made by a community member, not a developer. Furthermore, the developer quoted in the article that was posted in this thread said the content would be released for free.
I can't believe so many of you just jumped on Mythic instantly without even reading the article or the original thread. And you have the nerve to call people who can actually read "fanbois". Mythic has been one of the best examples of presenting content, being careful, canceling beta, and all of that. Even if their game sucks you have to admit that on the community interaction side of things they've done a better job so far. Although the Darkfall community interaction seems to be improving as of late.

Have fun paying for content that was supposed to be in the initial release [EA is like a Dark Sith Lord and Mythic is doing a good job in acting like a young Sith Lord, charging for cut content and labeling it as a "expansion"]
Too bad Darkfall won't beat Warhammer's release date, then again that's not saying much.
Darkfall better color me impressed or i'm simply done with gaming.

DAoC was a decent game for what it was (EQ Clone with RvR) The Devs did a pretty good job with that game other than the Trials of Atlantis expansion.

Stop spreading fallacious statements, and actually read what the developers said. The question of whether content might be released via patch or expansion was posed by a community member, not a developer. If you read the article that, quite obviously, the OP didn't even read, a developer is quoted saying that it was going to be content worked in through patches, nothing paid for in an expansion.
I don't care much about WAR because I'm not even going to play the game, but everyone in this thread needs to be more realistic and more objective, even if they are dealing with an "evil empire".
no orc choppa = no warhammer for me. By the time the expansion comes out I'll be playing DF. (knock on wood)

Makes for pretty awkward RvR when one side is missing cities and vital character archetypes. WAR is a class game with pretty specialised class roles, and if I recall correctly two races lost thier tank. In a tank, spank and heal game, that's a pretty big loss.
As for the 'released later' option, that's crap no matter how they do it. It's just a way to get you paying now for a half finished game. I mean, it's happened before with devs releasing games short of a few promised features, but I dont recall them being quite up to the level of entire missing cities and classes.

IMO they should just wait and finish the classes before release. However since it is Realm vs Realm not race vs race, the lack of tanks and support will be filled by their allies. And I would prefer that they only had 1 or 2 major cities per side anyway instead of one per race because it will keep the population more centralized.
