Half breeds?

I've been getting mixed results for this, I would like my character to be a half Mahirm half Mirdain (In-game i'll be a Mahirm sice there is no half breeds) Ok my character's father raided the mirdain's kingdom. While he was there he raped a Mirdain. When the child was born the Mirdain mother kept him hidden from society. He ran away at 15 y/o.
Do you guys think this is plausible, or I should give up this idea?

It sounds possible (assuming that the races is close enough geneticly to produce offspring with eachother). With that said, I wouldn't do it myself.. I think it would just be asking for trouble from some people. Perhaps you could have your maihrim have been adobted by a (kind-hearted, foolish or naive?) Mirdain as an infant and then ran away later?

Personally I wouldn't do it and I wouldn't want any of my clan members to do it either, because it's an invitation for conflicts.

That being said, if anyone else did it it's their choice. I don't have a problem with it.

Would a Mahirim and an Elf be genetically close enough to cross breed? I think it would be like trying to mix a cow and a horse... nature just does not allow it. Sure they could commit the act but it could not accomplish any thing if you get my drift.

its a common fantasy thing that halfbreeds exist from two completely different looking races. bringing genetics into it is rather a silly notion, when dealing with High fantasy.

i'm more concerned about the nature halfbreeds are RPed in general. since well, in xenophobic environments, which darkfall is clearly one, any halfbreed will be directly outcast, shunned, and perhaps even killed. recieving almost no help, and if they by weird means do manage to survive, become the lowest of the lowest in what ever race's ranking structure.

sadly, they're just rped as the normal invincible heroes like anyone else. they have so much potential, but its "almost" never done right, both by the halfbreed player and the people rping with him.

I'm not sure about the DF lore, would assume elves and beast men to be evolved from two seperate species. I doubt it would work...

Secondly, in all honesty, this is a concept I would expect to see on a 13 year olds DA account.

But there are none. So it never happened. And never will.

We may be RPers but we have to follow game mechanics or things fall to chaos and you get Half-demon Undead Vampires with angelic powers prowling around.

One thing RPers need to settle down to is following mechanics and lore.
No matter how you think you might twist your way into RPing something that doesn't exist, you shouldn't. There will always be people who don't like it, paradoxes that can't be solved, mechanics that can't be changed to fit and so on.

Half-breads aren’t possible for most animals, I'm no expert in genetics but I do know that in history a government tried to hybrid humans with apes, as part of a super soldier program. Ther were hoping to create a soldier with the strength of an ape with the intelligence of a human. They were completely unsuccessful as the human/ape sperm/egg didn't form any baby. In the end it was decided that the two species were too far apart to form a hybrid.

As you all know apes and humans only differ with 2% in our genetics, so if that's all it takes to make two species incompatible I don't think any combination of Agons races would be possible...Except maybe Alfar with Miridain, since the Alfar were once Miridain.

Plants are really the only type of organism that is dependable on hybridization, since I'm no geneticist, I can't tell you why.

Abit OT but if I remember it correctly there was one government that tried that, and that was the USSR government under Stalin. This failed because the woman's only demand was that the media would stay the fuck away from the project, which didn't succeed because the media got the name of the woman and thus the woman refused to participate in the project.

The thought is just odd, even if most of the races did breed, logically they couldn't produce an offspring. The only ones I figure is Dwarves, Humans and Elves.

I really doubt it will be implemented no matter how much you wish. Combining the skill tables for crossbreeding would make a mess and make Darkfall appear more like D&D.

I will just make a quick note at what I have been reading out of this thread. It seems to me that the starter of this thread (RichieV) wanted some form of "excuse" for behaving more civilised than the average Mahirim.

Well reading about the Mahirim as a race it seems that there is already a branch in the tribeslands striveing for this purpose (http://www.darkfallonline.com/races/mahirim/index.html);

"The Elders of Red Moon founded the Tribelands capital, and inspired by the workds and works of the prophet-king Amurran, they thens set about civilizing the primitive and nomadic mahirim. Their work continues to this day, as they seek to turn the Tribelands into a culturally advanced, militarily powerful nation."

As I see it, the problem with half-breeds (and yes talking in general) is not that you can not make up good backgrounds. It is the difficulty in playing them, both for the player himself and for the players around him. As I see it half-breeds have the problem of not belonging anywhere really (outcasts), and they often come to a personal struggle of loneliness because of that. Their so called unique heritage becomes often as much a liability as a strength (if ever)

That being said, I am not against the idea of half-breeds, if you would have suggested a love affair between a mirdain and a human I doubt as many would have reacted as strongly. But as others have stated my first choice for a half-breed would probobly not be a mahirim. Good luck with your Mirdain Richie ;)

And this thread...Gods, this thread just reinforces every bad thing I have ever said about mahirim players. I am filled with equal amounts of despair and disgust. Now, the idea of a culturally confused mirdain or mahirim is an interesting one and is much less depraved, so that's definitely the superior route to go.
