View Full Version : Gaming: Would you play World of Warcraft if it was free?

Lorthral
07-29-2008, 23:16
I might.

Maize
07-29-2008, 23:16
No. Not again. Never again.

One grindfest was enough for me.

Mulambo
07-29-2008, 23:16
I probably would.

do you mean free, or with a free permanewb option?

IcePillow
07-29-2008, 23:17
Nope, it's boring...

Lorthral
07-29-2008, 23:17
do you mean free, or with a free permanewb option?

Completely, utterly, positively free in all aspects of the word.

Tiarilir
07-29-2008, 23:18
I'd play it with my RL friends.

KoomValley
07-29-2008, 23:19
You can anyway o.o But no I wouldn't.

Aragoni
07-29-2008, 23:19
I pressed "No". The only thing which could make me go back to WoW would be if they gave me a level 70 character with some noob-gear. That way I could enjoy the instances.

Kietharr
07-29-2008, 23:45
Who's to say it isn't under the right conditions?

No, I'm not suggesting a private server, I'm talking about a few friends of mine who live near Blizzard HQ in socal and have buddies on the inside who gave them free accounts, they quit EQ2 because free WoW does own P2P EQ2, though EQ2 is the better game for PvP sadly enough.

Shiva-PIC
07-29-2008, 23:47
Maybe if a bunch of friends were going to jump in as well. By myself though, probably not.

Zwarp
07-29-2008, 23:47
No.

Zwarp
07-29-2008, 23:49
I'd play it with my RL friends.
So thats why you don't play it, then, you dont have any RL friend?

Death's Chill
07-29-2008, 23:50
I already am.

(Commence the eternal flaming)

07-29-2008, 23:52
I have a bad feeling about DFO. I thought this was a mature gamer community and no one here knows how to private server? I mean, EQ, WoW, even AoC has 2 private servers out now. Silly bitches

I burned too much time on it and got spoiled by hearing what an MMO should offer to players. Because of that, I'm not playing any goddamn games right now. Thanks Darkfall!

alfaroverall
07-29-2008, 23:57
No. If I would, I would be playing one of the many F2P MMORPGs that are basically WoW without as much polish and as many players right now.

Gloomrender
07-30-2008, 00:08
I've done it free and 80XP, and It still couldn't hold me.

Helgeran
07-30-2008, 00:33
Maybe if I made as much money as I would on a job.

forestchild
07-30-2008, 00:36
Never, what a stupid question.

GRCPan
07-30-2008, 00:46
maybe

Voodoo Hoodoo
07-30-2008, 02:40
I stopped playing the game because it became the same old, every single week. Making it free doesn't make it any better..

Lethn
07-30-2008, 02:45
I just don't have the fucking patience for grind games anymore.

Ammon777
07-30-2008, 02:50
Yes.

Erroneous
07-30-2008, 03:07
Grinding's not so bad if its free. You could twink battlegrounds or just enjoy the over polished ride to 70 over and over again.

It's no ideal situation, but would be head and shoulders above all other free options currently.

Ignignokt
07-30-2008, 03:15
Yeah I would. Heck, I played legend of ares for a little bit. That should be proof that I'm willing to play with shit if it's free.

tarsus
07-30-2008, 03:31
A friend is paying to keep my old account alive but no, I don't even have the game installed anymore.

YoMaNaTiOn
07-30-2008, 03:35
No, I've had my share. It's not a money issue anymore but a fun issue.

Bunkah
07-30-2008, 03:40
I pressed "No". The only thing which could make me go back to WoW would be if they gave me a level 70 character with some noob-gear. That way I could enjoy the instances.

Exactly what I thought.. I wouldn't grind 1-70 just to enjoy end content!!

Salaman
07-30-2008, 04:01
I would maybe for a month just to see what's different(lol sounds like a joke I know), but only because I still hold my old inactive account with two L70s instead of having cashed out with Ebay when I quit.

Satan
07-30-2008, 04:04
probably occasionally

Thoric
07-30-2008, 04:13
Yea, just to kite the stuff they forgot to "leash" (FUCK YOU BLIZZ) and wreak havoc in cities with my huntard. Seriously, most fun thing i've ever done in that game.

zakariaz
07-30-2008, 04:18
I dont think I will ever go back to wow. I mean you are supposed to be the big hero yet you dont leave a single lasting mark on the world?

And well I stopped when I realised I was having more fun playing travian while waiting for raids to start.

Hallexx
07-30-2008, 04:39
considering over 10 million people already play it for money this is kinda dumb

Foxodi
07-30-2008, 08:18
The comedy option was tempting, but I feel to strongly to pass up the chance of saying "lol no".. Though I admit if raiding didn't have to consume 60% of your free time then I might play it 'casually'.

Tomaj
07-30-2008, 08:23
possible but id only play solo and even though its ment to be a grind id play as long as i wanted doing what i wanted. shure its wow but its also a good time waster. thats why im now looking for a decent private server. wow just isnt worth wasteing money on.

Alkivor
07-30-2008, 08:31
It would be the best free-mmorpg.
Have you seen the korean ones?
I dont think that someone with little reason in his mind would say otherwise
its a good game and witha nice backround story with lots of possibilities.
And believe me Ive played alot of free-mmorpgs.Only 3-4 can actually come near WoW.
SO dont say things like its cartoon grafx make you wanna puke or its gameplay is dull. Its players who make the game and not the other way.

Largion
07-30-2008, 08:34
No.
I stoped playing because it was boring now becouse of money.

Arkh
07-30-2008, 08:37
No. Lot of grindfests are already available for free, I don't play them. WoW isn't different.

Horseman
07-30-2008, 08:38
No, there is nothing about it that I want to waste my time with.

Ruyan
07-30-2008, 08:39
If they would pay me to play, but free? Nope!

Xianin
07-30-2008, 08:55
If they would pay me to play, but free? Nope!

Gold farming?

Weeking
07-30-2008, 09:27
If it was free, it would be even worse. Assuming you mean on a proper server with plenty of players and not having GM mode enabled and such, no. Because it would attract even more of the worst kinds of people to play with; foreigners with no English skills, kids, cheaters, spammers, farmers etc.

Unless I planned on cheating myself that is.

Staatsschutz
07-30-2008, 10:24
i think i would, yes

Rahavin
07-30-2008, 10:26
Yeah. Definitely. A few guildies I would have liked to stay in contact with.

Kusghuul
07-30-2008, 10:31
Fuck no.

Kekshorts
07-30-2008, 10:54
yeah i would, too much time on my hands and not enough ways to waste it.

Spart
07-30-2008, 11:40
No. $20 a month has never deterred me from playing a game. It's simply that I don't find it fun. If I got enough enjoyment that I would be willing to play it for free, I would also pay for it.

Also, I prefer P2P games, since that means the devs are benefitting (more-so) from it, and so they are actually going to vaguely care.

shnedit
07-30-2008, 11:53
Id play with Surly if he was free.

Suitepee
07-30-2008, 12:04
If WOW was free I'd probably play it.

Lejar
07-30-2008, 12:16
If world of warcraft were free I still wouldn't play it. The game just isn't my cup of tea... of course I only like two types of tea.

Id play with Surly if he was free.

You aren't the only one.

Paralda
07-30-2008, 17:26
Depends. But probably no.

Battle
07-30-2008, 17:44
There are better free games out there than WoW, yet I still pay for other games.

Deja vu
07-30-2008, 17:49
I have never played WoW, I do admit I have thought about it occasionally. But I just cant do it. If it was free I may try it out.

Phooey
07-30-2008, 18:18
I'd think about it. Haven't played it since the beta ended, though.

Spikey
07-30-2008, 18:19
Yeah if I could get a group of friends to play with me.

Everto
07-30-2008, 18:22
Maybe if a bunch of friends were going to jump in as well. By myself though, probably not.

Yeah, same reason as me.

Tekon
07-30-2008, 18:30
Maybe. If they made a level 60 server with no instances and the only gear available was grey. Add in some risky PvP...

Spikey
07-30-2008, 18:31
Maybe. If they made a level 60 server with no instances and the only gear available was grey. Add in some risky PvP...

...And that would suck more than the orignal version of the game.

Nephilym
07-30-2008, 20:05
pffft, I'm paying for the game and I still don't play!

come to think of it I should've probably deleted my account a year ago when I stopped palying and saved myself $15 a month... wonder why I haven't gotten around to it already.... I blame extreme laziness. Maybe somewhere in the back of my mind I was secretly hoping some miracle would happen to make the game worth playing again. But I was wrong.

Milo Hobgoblin
07-30-2008, 20:06
Would they add a physics engine and collision detection?

if not.. then fuck no.
