Been there, done that. Our house got hit by lightening and we lost the network cards on 2 computers, one of them just kinda became a nasty melted mess inside.

That said, no one was hurt (and my computer was fine, surge protected power cord and is on wireless).

That would be a better poll. How many people turn their computers off during electrical storms? I do, out of fear. Surge protectors aren't made for lightning, they're made for normal voltage changes. Lightning would PWN it.
