I dont know Im not the owner so far they have a contarct with sony. When you first walk in there is a ps3, xbox 360, and some PC's you could rent for hourly pay. Bunch of games not sure about the video part. The way things are set up is you put down a deposit you take it home play it bring it back you get part of your deposit back, if you like it we just keep the deposit which is how much the game would normally cost. So if battletoads is a game on pc or any console Im sure itll be in.

Those are pretty generic/weak names. First of all, I would say, why the hell are you opening up a game store? The margins are terrible, the market is pretty full...

Here's how I see your idea panning out. You realize, "holy shit, I can't sell any games b/c no one even comes to my store, they just go to EB games, game stop, Best Buy, amazon, gamefly, etc." You then have to close down after numerous months of losses, only to realize that your property is worth less than when you bought it (because of our shitty real estate situation) and you're now up to your nose in debt because you forgot to add the depreciation of your property + accrued interest to your losses each month (because you're a shitty business man to boot, and you wanted to "own" your store so you didn't want to lease... Because that 1am infomercial convinced you never to rent).

Just my two cents. Unless you have some clever way to reshape the business (although I don't see what's missing right now from the "sell me a game" business - the only component is "do you have it in stock?"), or you live in a rural area (so your customers would be able to buy from you instead of waiting for amazon? You still wouldn't save them any money b/c they'd get free shipping now - and chances are, Amazon buys way more stock than you and offers a sweeter price), you're screwed.

I dont know about the 'rent a spot on a comp to play a game' thing working out. I bought Sins of a Solar Empire last week and my lastest Huge random map attempt has chalked up 15 hours of game time and I've only taken 2 galaxies. The diplomacy on that game is fucking terrible.

Throwing in Electronics Sport contests is a good idea. With a decent LAN setup and Starcraft you can almost guarantee some heavy interest in the store, depending on the local nerd/korean levels.
You can really nerd it up and go the way of several 'catering exclusively for nerds' shops around here and hold tabletop and TCG comps as well. Throw in a rare Chewbacca figurine behind glass and an 'I Love Linux' t-shirt and you're done.

Sounds like the internet cafe fad. Honestly man, I'd say do your research before just starting it up.

Do a survey and check out the local interest, maybe get an idea of what people would want, etc.

Honestly you might want to lease computers/hardware instead of just letting people pay per hour and use it at your store. iCafes kind of died out imo.

Could still work for competitions, LANS, etc, but otherwise, leasing would be king.

I'd much rather just lease a PC and rent the game than pay per hour and have to go to the store every time I wanted to play. And honestly, the market for people who don't have a system to run the game they want to play is probably like 5 people total (the rest of the people without a good rig probably wouldn't even give a shit about your store).
