Freelancer.
BG1 and 2.
NWN1 and 2.
All RPG's that are nothing less than awesome in Co-op.
How does co-op NWN2 work? Do you need one team that you do the whole thing with, or can you do any part with anyone?
And do you only play with people you know, or can you find random people?

I'm not sure how it works if you for example kick someone out and take in a new guy, but uh... there's always the command levelling up. You can play with friends or random people, I suppose the forums is a great way for that.
Still, there are no other RPGs than NWN/BG/ID? I'm trying to find a game to play with my friend, but he doesn't like NWN and I don't like BG.

you can go on the online find an internet game and hook up with anyone that is currently playing online, or hosting a game.
you have to go through it with them. it takes you right to where they are. only one person can take part in the conversations, so you need to use vent to coordinate how you want to play the game.
there are persistent worlds, thought. much like a mmorpg... only far less people and more rpgish. with dms and such.
NWN1 was awesome for all those... nwn2... my verdict is still out.

shadows of the undrentide expansion isnt that good, for NWN1, but the Houses of the Underdark and the original are. from what i played of NWN2, it was also very good.
No good modules for NWN/NWN2 then? =(
The pvp arena for the first one is REALY fun imo.
Otherwise there are expansions for both if ya havent played them, the nwn2 one ya start at a high lvl aswell wich might make things more intresting....
Maybe.

I've played it, and thing, I don't want to start out as a high level character with gear already (never bothered to finish NWN2 campaign). The character doesn't feel like it's mine!

I agree there...
well, snes is probebly out of the questions and the few rpgs I realy liked are acient.
If you could get a hold of it though, there was this game called "silver", doubt you would be able to get it, more of a hybrid hack and slash or something though...
hmm
Well to be honest can't think of any recent PC one worth mentioning, sry, out of luck there.

Buy a sega genesis and play golden axe / altered beast until you and your friend's eyes bleed imo. Play on the largest CRT you can find.

Most current MMORPGs are actually pretty good games if you think them as coop multiplayer games.

But they fucking aren't neither of those things.
Agge: That's why I'm asking, NWN and BG seems to be the only ones we can choose from! D'oh!

Whenever I try to coop a story heavy rpg with a friend, it just ends up with us skipping all the cutscenes and killing stuff or each other... For a story-lite type of environment you might be better off just playing a diablo or titan quest or something.

You could also try Dungeon Siege. The first one, not DS2.

Even though I could probably play them, my friend hates those kind of games and therefore the whole coop thing is a bit ruined. D'oh!

What's wrong with Dungeon Siege? Most co-op RPGs are like that.
Although Titan Quest is like the bastard child of Diablo 2 and Dungeon Siege, so yeah..
if you are up for any kind of co-op I guess swat and rainbow six comes to mind.

I don't know, never played it. I assume it's basically "he lived on a farm then orcs then he left also kill"?
Edit: if you are up for any kind of co-op I guess swat and rainbow six comes to mind.
That's kind of funny because I've tried googling good coop games, and it doesn't matter at what site/forum you look at, it's all basically:
NWN
BG
Rainbow Six
Diablo
MMORPG ITS COOP KIND OF LOL
SWAT

He lived on a farm then Krug then he left also kill.
It's the gameplay that matters though.
... Which is also kind of lacking. But for some reason Dungeon Siege used to be a ton of fun to play. Probably because the world was pretty cool, with many secret areas and such. There even was a "Pit of despair" which was a LONG, LONG, LONG fucking complicated (I had to drop gold on the ground everywhere I went to make sure I wasn't walking around in circles, even then it took many hours to complete) underground maze with no enemies and nothing but a crappy paper bag helmet at the end as a reward. There was also a secret Chicken Level.

So what you're saying is that it's a hack and slash with lacking gameplay? It doesn't sound too tempting, honestly.

Maybe it's fluid animations, kills that are satisfying or sound effects? Does trailers and videos do the game justice?
Well, I gotta admit I wasn't to impressed with rainbow6 though... soo obviusely instanced, what I mean by that is that the game is overly "trigger" based.
Example, go a few step up this stairs and al of a sudden people zip line down frome the roof and al kind of shit... should you die and have to re do and chose to wait, NOTHING will happen... untill you take those few steps up the stairs.
I guess ya could fuck around with something like garys mod or BF2 sandbox, I would kind of count those as co-op games because it's fun and intresting to see what ya can build (haven't realy played garys mod out of the 2 myself).
I guess there aren't to many games that acctualy got co-op come to think about it, not on pc at least. It's time to check the "al the god damn games I played on the PC that I could think of" list.

It had nothing to do with the animations. The kills were not satisfying. The background music was pretty epic though.

That's the thing, there are few good coop games and if you try to narrow it down to good RPG storydrive ones, you end up with 2.
Alright after checking ze list... lol this is horrible.
Apart frome what has already been mentioned:
Serius sam (could be fun if you are VERY drunk)
Wurm wich you have played and ofcourse supposebly is an mmorpg.
Nox (I hate it, some realy love it though)
Arcanum (but the mp sucks ass imo)
No FPS I can think of (without mod see svencop etc)
No RTS (unless teaming counts, bu nah, it's never a ral campaign imo)
No Sport nor builder/simulator...
MMO's don't count...
No turnbased I played.
Aha an old arcade game had it! it was called Tyrain, and you most likely will never find it... wich makes me sad because I LOVED that game.
Well, thats al I could see on the PC list.

Freelancer is a lot of fun. its a better version of EvE but its not MMO...it has a single player storyline and multiplayer servers. Its better than EvE, some friends who have played both said that EvE was just a kind of dumbed down, stat/ship based version of Freelancer.
big universe, dozens of ships, you can pirate/merchant/bounty hunter/police, etc. the servers on multiplay are all private ones, Freelancer doesnt run any of their own servers, so their may be modded in ships/stations, etc, and you might start out with different things. The storyline is pretty cool, the deeper you get into it, and the game has a lot of freedom.

Been having fun lately with Dungeon Lords CE
Aha an old arcade game had it! it was called Tyrain, and you most likely will never find it... wich makes me sad because I LOVED that game.
Tyrian is the best top-down scrolling shoot 'em up EVER created. In the story mode you would gain money as you killed and collected shit, and could spend said money on new ships, better shields, new weapons, and every weapon had 11 levels of power changing the type of shot and so on. And the music was epic.
It was fucking brilliant.

On topic, force your friend to like Diablo 2 or Titan Quest. As soon as he levels up and gets some neat loot, he'll be hooked into the mindless hack'n'slash trance.
Atnas
07-14-2008, 11:17 PM
No really, he wont.
I don't get why Raptor is the more famous one, Tyrain ownes it soo hard >:
I was but a kid back then, heck I don't even know what my age was back then...
But I do remember alot of the weapons, even some sounds and some messages like "warning, spikes ahead". In co-op the mothership or w/e it was could get this green "laser" weapon, shot like half-moon'ish looking thing's ... was it when it charged up it's attack, can't even remember if ya could.
Aaah.. the good old days.
Also, I realy tried to like diablo 2 myself... the only thing I found fun about it ws killing the bosses and see the gore fest... Otherwise, same creatures diffrent coloures and stats just don't work on me, nothing more then numbers that game.
