Anyone have anything interesting to say about these two games?

Earthrise looks like Eve on land, but the community is care bear. While Mortal looks like the child of DF and AoC, but the care bear community is pretty care bear. Also, both are vaporware.

I gotta agree. Mortal is the closest thing to DF, however we still have the hardcore community that it could never own up to.

The thing that turned me off the most about Mortal is that it has classes. If DF fails I'll prob play Mortal but it wouldn't be the omg-sex like DF, it'll be like "eh, at least I'm getting some?"

Earthrise looks interesting and will also look into it more if DF fails.

EVE on land? That sounds awesome! But is it free PvP full loot?

Just got this Earthrise newsletter;

"Six months ago we announced Earthrise and since then we have been working hard to bring you the game that we are all excited about. Content and gameplay have been added and we met our alpha milestones in early May allowing us to begin playing and testing the game. We know you all are geared up for beta so we decided that in this month's newsletter we would give you some insight into our development process and the road to beta.

The Game Designers are working to polish Earthrise's game design to introduce fresh and exciting features including several original options and abilities for players to benefit from with their in-game tactics.

The Art Team is focused on the starting area of Enterra and the coastal regions on the map. Nearly finished with the creatures of Earthrise, the character artists are focusing on fine-tuning the main character designs. With a variety of customization options and initial character clothing designs, we hope even the most discriminating of players will find a look to please them as they set out on their adventures.

It is a real pleasure to see the Level Designers progress in building the island of Enterra - right now they are putting their efforts to the coastal regions and the Nest. Keep an eye out for new screenshots from these regions soon!

With everything that our spectacular team has accomplished in the previous months, we are still looking toward autumn of 2008 to begin our beta. For the time being, we want to thank all of you for your contributions to our growing community and for your early dedication to Earthrise.

See you in the forums!

Mortal Online has a pretty carebear community I would say. I think by the time it releases, it won't have full loot while plagued by "epic items," grind, and mass teleportation. Also, it already has classes and multiple characters per sever so it shows the game won't have a thriving economy like Darkfall.

Mortal Online looks good to me. I might even make the switch, if they have features that I would've wanted in Darkfall.

Curious, what features do you want in Darkfall?

You all seem to be forgetting Infinity and Renaissance.

Anyway, Earthrise will probably wind up being a hybrid game in effect, where PvP is an integral part of the game world, but not the thing that everything revolves around. (As opposed to WoW, where it's slapped on the top randomly, and Darkfall, where it's the heart of the game.) That's really kind of a first in MMO development, and it honestly might be kind of fun. Be advised though: it is not EVE on land. Most of the world is open PvP (other than cities; in that sense it is like Darkfall) but there is not full loot. If I recall there is 1 item loot, but there might not even be that.

Mortal looks thus far to be Darkfall with "archetypes", that is to say loose classes, but we've seen very little from the game so far (even compared to Darkfall!) and their Summer 09 release date seems like a load of crap to me. Their community is also about as carebear as that of Earthrise, and their devs sadly listen to their player base, so it's fairly likely that when all is said and done, Mortal will also be in the middle or even on the carebear side of the spectrum.

Renaissance is basically a less dark version of Darkfall with a tiny community. Seriously, the feature list is almost identical.

Infinity is, in some ways, like Darkfall back in the Razorwax days, as far as I know; little-known with a tiny community and an even tinier developer team, but a freaking badass idea. A large space-based world to explore with planetary landing, an FPS-combat system (which can be tested in their long-released Combat Prototype in multiplayer), and full PvP. I've forgotten about the looting system, though.

lol?
Are you safe when you're just beginning?
You can be safe in certain areas, but there is no "safe-level-range"
...
Where will PvP be allowed?
Anywhere in the world, except in cities. We will give out detailed rules later on who can attack whom, when and where.

So it's basically like Darkfall, except the city guards effect is hardcoded. Kinda sucks, but whatever. I wouldn't expect any significant PvP in cities in Darkfall anyway other than sieges and significant non-siege raids. Later on:
Can I loot the defeated player?
Yes, you can loot a defeated player, but we have some nice features in mind which should make it rather hard for the thief and not too frustrating for the defeated. You can look forward to a surprise!

This is ambiguous as hell. It could be the same sort of thing as Darkfall, with loot being easy to get and an alignment-like system (as indicated earlier in the FAQ subtly) being in the game. It could be partial loot, which honestly isn't all that bad if the game is set up around it, though it doesn't make a lot of sense from a game world perspective.

Rennaissance and Infinity are nothing to look forward to in the near future. Hell, not even for within the next 2 years. Don't expect any kind of beta before 2010. Infinity is probably going to end up vaporware anyway.

I agree here ive register there to see what it was its terible community it will not survive the ffa pvp implementations.

Its infested with very carebear community and offcorse most come from wow, forums are terible carebear.

Devs will bow im sure to all request making it a more themepark mmo.

Your btw welcomed by TALOS in a email WTF, and many things in this game are same as darkfall i have feeling these are devs that have follow darkfall longtime and then desided to make also such game.

Many topics that are made by carebears in GD here, are also now in mortal online forums.

Community also some come from darkfall forums.

The thing that turned me off the most about Mortal is that it has classes.

From what I know, it doesn't actually have the usual classes. It has more like titles, which you can join and leave, depending on your skills.

They just might give a boost to some specific skills, but that's about it. They don't restrict anything.

just to let you know:

earthrise will have an insurance loot system, meaning that you can pay in advance to spawn with your items after you have died. if i am correct you insure seperate items, not sets, or anything like that. plus - you cannot insure stackable items, resources, and stuff.
the idea is that, if you kill someone who has insured his items, you get half of the amount he's spent on that option. more complex, epic, stronger, or whatever items will cost more creds to insure.

i actually played an uo shard with a similar system and it works nice, if credits are hard to get by. if you want to burn someone you either get his items or his pockets, until he has no pockets. then you get his items.

They both look like shit to be honest. Mortal Online doesn't have that "solid" feel to it and from what I've read of the developers they have a poor sense of design.
