I bought my son a system of his own yesterday (gateway system), so he could have his own computer to play games on.
The problem is that all the reds are showing as black. I have messed with the monitor's settings going from every setting posible and back. The machine has a ATI Radeon 3200 Graphics card, and the monitor is a 19inch Hannspree wide screen.
I hate vista, as it makes it a bitch for my 98 and XP ass to navigate. Can anyone throw me a couple of things I can check as I'm sure it is something simple.
And no, throwing it away or hitting it with a sledghammer are not options...lol.
Thanks in advance fellas.
I don't really understand the problem, you say all the colors in your monitor has been reversed? Or just the reds showing as black?
To be fair it sounds like your RGB cable could be lose, or your monitor is fucked up. I doubt it is your system if you haven't been screwing around.

Do you hate your son? You do realize he won't be able to play any 3d games whatsoever on that, do you? It's a friggin onboard graphics chip meant for web browsing and home theater systems. Gaming is the last thing you'll do with it.
Try the monitor on a different system to see if it works properly. Or, even better, return the computer and build your son a half decent gaming PC.

The is kind of mean guys, to gripe at him for what he go & not tell him what is good. I have a old NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS with 512 memory (AGP) from before my upgrade, but the sys. is PCIe right?

There is only one answer.. Radeon HD4850. Then again, with that PC I wouldn't be surprised if it had a crappy CPU and only 1 GB of RAM, making the new card useless.

You know nothing about his sons age or what kind of games he wants to play. Even if its 3D games then go buy a freakin' add-on card. Big deal...

Actually, I do know about his son. His son is an intelligent teenager that might even be interested in DF, so bite me asshole.
A computer that comes with nothing but an onboard chip generally has crappy parts all-round. Buying an add-on card might not solve anything.

He is 11, and is only playing CnC and CS right now. I just wanted to get him a system that would play those fine and would not set me back a few grand for his first comp.
I know it is not a top of the line comp, but as far as onboard vid cards go, it is the best out right now. But I was able to only spend 800 and get him a AMD Phenom 8450 triple core processor (2.10Ghz), with 4 gigs of DDR RAM, on a 64 bit operating system. It's a lot more machine than my first comp was...lol.
And as far as the problem, it's only red that is not working. Anything red shows up as black. I'll plug the monitor into my laptop to see if that is the problem, but was just mainly asking to see if there is some easy fix to this and in case it was some kind of common problem with the hardware or monitor I was unaware of.

It's definitely not a common problem.
Why did you get him such a nice processor and a ton of RAM paired with an onboard graphics chip that'll struggle with any game made in the past 5 years? It's just weird. All you have to do is put a $200 card (HD4850) in there and he will have a MONSTER that will play anything but Crysis on max. With his current chip he won't even be able to play any game at his monitor's native resolution, which kinda sucks.
If you don't want to spend $200 more, there are cheaper alternatives although they offer less bang for your buck. Basically anything will literally be a dozen times better than what he currently has.

I have other cases and comps I can pillage for him later....like a year or so. I will most likely wind up peice mealing this comp and pair it on a different mother board and vid card when he is ready to move on to bigger and better things. Also though, it has two extra slots (one PCI and one AGP) not being used, so I can always disable the onboard video, and slide a good card in there for him.
I know where your coming from, and I thought the same thing man. I was already picturing how I was going to wind up dismantling this thing soon when I was paying for it...lol.

Just a new graphics card will do the trick, assuming his PSU is good enough. I kinda feel sorry for him because he probably doesn't realize a few extra bucks could ziltruple (Yes, that's a word now) his gaming performance.

Viliun, maybe he doesn't want to spoil his child? My dad didn't get us off dial-up till 4 years ago, imagine what playing online games for me was like.

Yes, because giving your child anything other than onboard video means you're spoiling him..
Your dad was just a queer.

It's the monitor.
Check the cable, look for bent pins, try a new cable, hit it a few times (seriously), and then send it back.

My NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS with 512 memory (AGP) is boxed up in my bedroom now, no one is going to use it & it will play UT3 & Quake 4 just fine. Here is a link to some AGP choices http://www.evga.com/products/prodlist.asp?switch=2
