Starcraft weekend blowout!!

I know a few of you expressed interest in playing some old school SC, This weekend we should get a decent amount of forumfallers together and play some racewars or a few 2v2's 3v3's etc....

We just need a better way to communicate, should we all get on Xfire, all exchange AIM names, or a simpler way everyone simply get on USEAST and /join darkfall or something to that effect. Anyone have any bright or ideas to stay in touch or even willing to play??

Thanks for the invite sounds like it would be alot of fun, but I do have plans besides starcraft this weekend haha. Besides lugging my full tower and 22inch wouldnt be to fun not to mention my truck gets less than 12 miles to the gallon or something stupid like that. Man would be awesome to be at a LAN again for the first time in years. Im the only one of my friends that does anything on computers anymore.......When there is nothing to do during the work week they would rather sit n watch TV then play a game. :bang:

IMO Brood War was basically a giant balancing patch, so I'd recommend it. I also don't have the original game anymore.

I think the structure should go Brood War for most of the day and on the final 1 or 2 games we do vanilla just for the lulz.

I was going to recommend ggclient for ease of communication and set up of games through UPD or ipx but there seems to be more of slant to xfire so I'll look it over to see if I like it well enough.

I strongly suggest we all download the same maps ahead of time if we are going to use customs.

THis is a zip file of a package of maps used in tournaments. (http://www.mediafire.com/?jynenijnmjn) These maps allow the usage for observers to act as referrees and camera men so whenever you use these maps pick "use map settings" or else the game will start with players away from mineral/gas patches.

It's pretty doubtful that you're going to get much help from the Darkfall forums in the amount of time that you have now (even 4 minutes is a long time in SC) but we'd probably need to know what exactly they're hammering you with to be able to come up with a counter. SC combat (not SC as a whole) is really a big game of rock-paper-scissors at its heart.

siege tanks backed up by marines and or your goliats, march slowly forward by moving forward a bit at a time trying to keep your tanks in constant siege mode.

Shouldn't have to worry about spreading this assult out though since zerg got no are attack, unless ofcourse you get hit by a pleuge.

Keep a few-many (depending on how uber micro ya got) science vessels around the assult force, be sure that they got irradiate for those mass muta hordes, also ya might want some medics with the marines and constant stim packing.

TvZ is usually M&M (marines and medics, extremely powerful), maybe a few firebats early on backed up by scans to avoid getting wtfslicedup by lurkers and then a tank or two thrown in to deal with lurkers (static defense should be no problem with massed M&M. Science vellels are needed later on to deal with the defilers (a single irradiate kills them or lurkers even if they bury, also a well timed EMP might save you from dark swarm or plague). Watch out for the scourge and getting crackling dropped or having mutas fly into your base.

If the game goes on for long and ultralisks show up fight them with mines. Veyr inexpensive and zergs only good way to deal with mines are clearing them with lings which isn't cost effective. Also vultures rape workers and zerglings.

It is $20. Plus it's actually easier once you're all set up. No password issues, no kicking of random people issues, and a generally easier login process. Lag issues would most likely be decreased as well.

What it does is fake a LAN-connection with everyone else in the same hamachi network.

It's not that short. To get from the router to the other computer, with no restriction on drilling holes through walls, would require at least 12 feet of ethernet cable.

There's an easy way to determine that in most cases. Just plug directly into your modem and test it.

I've never known hamachi to be finicky about anything other than having a high speed internet connection established, however.

Does it set up a VPN? Does your computer actually get tricked into thinking that it is on a LAN? If either of those questions are answered with "no", StarCraft won't work on it, because it's ancient.

Garena was originally made for WC3 and SC I think. It supports WC3, Cod4, AoEI & II, SC, CSS, CS1.6, CS1.5 and Sudden Strike.
I usually play DotA and SC through it.

My bnet name is blindbravado, but we mostly use hamachi.

But two of the people aren't responding, and one of them is playing WC3 at the moment, so yeah, it's basically us two at the moment. We could still 2v2 with vent on bnet, though.

If you want to do that, say so, and I'll hop on bnet.

Hamachi creates a virtual LAN so that you can play on UDP. Anyway, I'll hop on bnet. If you don't have a working headset that's fine, I won't worry about vent.
