A while ago there was a debate on forumfall about ki, chi, chakra, prana, or whatever you want to call it. Now personally I don't believe in any of those and that all effects are due to suggestion and manipulation of a person's belief structure. I know some of you here do believe strongly in these things. Now, here is my question. If so many people have the ability to manipulate spiritual energies to effect people and objects, why has no one ever been able to claim the $1,000,000,000 offered by James Randi? I'm really curious to hear why? I had one person tell me it's because people like Randi, and Brown are more powerful than the people that they debunk and it's a money making scheme. I heard the same explanation used with Houdini. Honestly I don't buy it. Here is an interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTPj9VlNzQ0) with Randi. It's almost an hour long.

Heh, it's a million dollars, not a billion. Why has no one ever been able to claim it? That's like asking why no one has ever been able to claim the $100,000 reward for beating a Gracie - it's happened, they just don't pay.
One could ask the same question of why real martial arts masters don't come to the UFC or Pride or anything like that and take the prize purses. It's ridiculous, the fighters in there have the sloppiest technique, but people think they are the best in the world. There are people in this world who could destroy those guys in seconds. So why don't they?
lol Could it be that money is not the most important thing in the world?

Lack of verifiable evidence isn't a problem for many people. The sooner you learn this, the less frustration you will experience. Stupidity and ignorance are difficult to defeat, and the effort generally isn't worth one's time.

Everyone knows Ki is real. You just have to believe. I knew this one guy who used to use Ki for fighting, he trained for a long time since he was a child. Eventually he went into a world level fighting tournament, where he met Picollo, an evil Namekian! Using his Ki he was able to win the fight and save the world.

That's just a silly thing to say. I'm sure all the black belts in the UFC and Pride would argue with that. Also, I imagine by your statement and your attitude that by "real martial arts" you are referring exclusively to traditional, Oriental based martial arts, which is also a silly thing to say. There are also many fighters in the UFC who have spent their entire lives training how to fight and who also compete and win at the international level in their specific styles; so, saying there are no "masters" is also very silly.
lol Could it be that money is not the most important thing in the world?
Money is really not the only thing motivating people like that to fight: most of them have been fighting and devoting their lives to fighting long before anyone was willing to pay them for it and "martial arts masters" would have much more reason than money to come and fight and money is certainly not the only reason people would want to empirically prove the existence of their paranormal abilities; that's also a silly thing to say.
Silly. So silly.

Their technique is horrible actually, most of them look like sloppy brawlers rather than real fighters. It's embarrassing to watch.
I don't claim to be an expert or anything, but I've trained with people who used to compete in the more underground leagues in for example Thailand, and the UFC guys have nothing on those.

Most UFC fighters are just average guys who can take a punch and have the ability to knock someone to the ground and punch the shit out of them. Such technique, lol.

I'm hearing a lot of talk coming from squishy middle-aged men and soft, scrawny little teenagers who all spend all their free-time on the internet. If the fighters in the UFC are not any good, then go beat them.

I dont have a dog in the MMA vs Martial Arts fight. I am confused as to how someone who hits someone full force while being hit not a fighter, while someone who perfects form and spars is one?

I have trained with MMA fighters. I also fought a pro light heavy weight (Chris Gates...fights on Pride a lot), with me weighing 175lbs. I gave up 30 lbs, and while we were on our feet, it was back and forth..but he had no power. He won out when we hit the ground, but I'm trained to gouge eyes and bite plugs out of people in that situation. So, that was where he won.
But don't think UFC style (kickboxing/ground based Judo...wow) is the be all, end all. I have fought some pros, and can tell you in a steet fight...I would beat their fucking brains out.

That's ridiculous. I once watched Chris Gates kill a bear with his bare hands in a street fight. Then he ate a bucket of nails and shot fire out of his butt. This is was just after every pro fighter slew a dragon with nothing but a pair of chopsticks (the requirement to enter the UFC) and just before I flew around the world backwards in order to turn back time so that I could keep the Cubs from winning the World Series.
Also, I have 4 Ph.D.'s, 32 inch biceps and I'm packing something like a baby arm in my pants, if you know what I mean.
It's all true; I promise.
EDIT: In all seriousness (just an expression, as I was being totally serious above), if you're losing to fighters in a fight, you're most likely going to lose to them in a street fight. Realize, dirty fighting is not some magical secret that only you know about, they're going to be doing everything you are only they've devoted their lives to developing the delivery system. Factor in to that the fact that they take beatings for a living and there is a specific type of person who is attracted to professional fighting (i.e. tough guys who like to fight) and there is a good chance that your average Joe schmo is your average Joe schmo for a reason.
In other words, if you bump into George St-Pierre on the street, your community muai tai class and mediocre high school wrestling career should not keep you from apologizing profusely and backing away as quick as possible.

Most of the people who can wield the "spiritual" ki spend hours and hours a day meditating, they probably never have heard of Randi, and are very disconnected from society. I met a man once in India (while backpacking through the himalayas) who lived at 13,000 feet in a cave... He built a rock house around the cave he lives in and grows most of his own food. He left his house at the age of 14, and has been living there for almost 20 years.. Money is irrelevant to him, and that reason is because he is enlightened. You can easily call enlightenment bull shit.. But what's so hard about understanding that the value of money is only based on believing it is worth something. So if it has no value to you, then fuck it.. So therefore most of the people who have these so called abilities don't give a fuck about money, or don't care about leaving the caves they live in (metaphorically speaking); and usually when someone is content, they need nothing more than what they have (which seems to be the basis of enlightenment... And it takes a lot of practice/meditation/solitude to acquire the skill... So of course the people who they test to disprove these so called abilities are going to fail horribly. Why? Because they obviously lack the practice, and have yet to disconnect themselves from society, and are arrogant enough to feel the need to prove to the world that they have a so called gift..
The closest thing to ki that I have ever experienced is that this one time I got really high and could feel an electric current flowing through the side of my body, and when I focused on it, it intensified... Then I had a friend touch it, and I shocked them... It was fucking awesome lol, but it should mean absolutely nothing to you, and you will dismiss it, and I could care less..
