Hey, i'm new here. Just stopped playing wow, and starting looking up new mmorpg's that i could start playing. Darkfall caught my eye, and seems to incorporate alot of the things that was missing from wow, that made me quit. Anyways enough introduction. I'll get to a few of my questions. appologies if they have already been asked, so many threads.

I read that Darkfall will be technically first person. Ie: you have to aim at what you want to hit. Sounds like a good idea to me. But Given the nature of Massive multiplayer Online games, i was wondering how any lag will affect the ability to play. I come From Australia, and unfortunitally all the servers are overseas, so i get ping of around 500 as a good ping. I know from playing with friends on lan the effect of the lag, as on one computer your two characters are running along side, whereas the other, there is a sizable gap. Also, since this game seems to focus alot more on pvp, and all out war, for lack of better termanology, two teams all fighting in the one area, at the one one time, might also cause lag. My theory was that mmorpg created the Target player fighting mode, to reduce this problem. Like i said my question is how will any lag effect ones ability to play/fight. Is there anything incorporated into the game to solve this problem. Ie: a game system that what ever you hit on your computer will kill them no matter where they are on theirs?
Also while i'm on the topic of being from Australia, One thing that has annoyed me about playing mmorpg, is that there is never an australian server for australians. Population whise we aren't that large, but we do still have alot of people playing games. It would be really Nice to have a server where we can get decent pings, Minimum lag, and where most of the players are all on when you would normally play. Is or would Darkfall Consider and Australian based server?

One other thing that i was wondering about was, crafting, and resources. My assumption of the darkfall crafting system, is Simular to the old starwars galaxies System. Are the resources a mine on the ground you hack a few times, or a deposite in an area of the world, you put a mine on to extract them. Also will the resources have a quality %, which means what ever items you make, are improved by the better quality recources used to make it?

Anyways they are my main questions for the moment. Sorry to babble on. Thx for taking the time to ready, and looking forward to the game being released sometime soon hopefully.

No game designer can ever hope to have full control over internet lag.

Lag caused by the game can be, and has been, pushed down to a bare, unsolvable minimum, but nobody can make your internet connection connect faster to their game for you.

And about the resources. We know that resources won't be the same in all parts of the world, meaning one zone might have to go looking over the next few mountains if they want steel.(this creates localized economies).

We don't know exactly what a resource looks like, though

I'm not entirely sure about resources but as for combat, darkfall uses real-time combat. This means everything happens simultaneously. From my understanding there is no scripted combat and unfortunately in your case, you'll probably be standing there most of the time looking at some ork bonk you over the head with his stick. It'll most likely be difficult for you. :(

Yeah lag sucks... best option? Get best internet connection available to you and save up for a top model computer mate. That's my plan anyways...

Some mmorpgs have Australian servers, like Runscape, but mostly only the entirely browser-based ones. DF is set up for retail in North America and Europe, so that's where the servers will be. The prospective customers get the quality gameplay. Sorry.

Ya I have played wow since Jan 05, I still like it, but I used to world pvp and then me and my friends started a small pvp guild that took on the end game guilds in pvp. I know it took Wow like what 2 years to make the oceananic server for you ozzies? Lag is always going to be in these games I think, so it's just something we are going to have to live with, and try to deal with it the best we can.

I'd suggest getting the best possible internet service in teh area, and praying for Oceanic Servers like in WoW.
