I am a complete noob when it comes to computers.
But what could I get for about $1500?
I want something that could run all or most of the games on the market atm.

No shit, just upgraded: 4 gig ram= $100, 1 gig video card= $150.
Buy a nice processor and you're set. I thought it was going to be a shit load more expensive to get decent parts.

lol?
:lmao:

so i end up standing corrected but a 1gb video card for $150 = crap

My 8800 Ultra that I have had for a year will still tear it apart.

4gig of ram for 100 and 1g vid card for 150?

On offense...but you must be using pretty crappy equipment.

Normally... If you can yank some shit out of an older computer (Hard Drive, CD Drive, Sound Card, Floppy Driver..Ect.. You don't have to buy new ones since they don't really matter.

Then put all of your cash into a case ( make sure it comes with a psu, I got a REALLY nice one for like 60 bucks)

Spend about 300-350 on your graphics Card. 150-200 on your mobo, then like 350-400 on your processor.

Then re-use some ram (if able) or just buy 2 gigs for like 60-70 a pop.

www.newegg.com

Look for coupon codes and you can get like 15% off of final purchase.

Using this method I made a:

Nvidia 8800 GT
Dual Core 2.5
4 Gigs of ram
Maxtor 500GB 16mb Hard drive
Dual Layer DVD/CD Drive
(on board sound card)
and some crappy intel mobo.

for around $800-900..can handle pretty much anything you throw at it.

I'm going for:
Case: Antec P182
PSU: Corsair VX450W
Motherboard: MSI P45 Neo3-FR
Processor: Intel Q9450
Graphic Card: GeForce 8800GT
HDD: (not a new one) Seagate barracuda 7200.11
Memory: 4GB 800MHZ DDR2
+ A CPU cooler which barely costs 40€.
In total all this is around 950€, which is around $1500.

I wouldn't spend that much on a processor for a gaming machine. For the CPU, I'd spend about $250 (then OC it) and put some, of the money you saved, on a Raptor HD or maybe even a few cheaper HDs and use RAID-0. Quick load times FTW.

But that's just me.
