From the very latest dev journal.

As for underscores, numbers, etc. in names it's just the way it works right now. If you don't like them, sure we'll take them out until you petition them back in when you run out of naming options.

As you can see the underscore and numbers are in as of now, but they say they will remove them if we don't like them if we want that, but then they also say they will put them back in if we want that.

So presently they are in, but in the future they could be in or out depending on what the devs decide the community wants. But the community at the time they decide this might be very different from the community now.
