Tales of Agon 1.1: The Rebirth (Short Story Contest-Cash Prizes!!!)

Welcome to the Re-Birth of the first Tales of Agon Writing Contest

The purpose of this new event is to encourage creative writing on the DF Boards and hopefully influence the devs to incorporate fan written lore into Darkfall(this is more of a pipe dream, but if this contest is a success, anything's possible.) If all goes well this time, We will definitely host/sponsor more contest. If you are interested in participating, then read ALL the information posted below.

UPDATE!!!: The Merry Gangsters, a new and innovative gaming/art guild, will be sponsoring this contest. The Merry Gangsters were formed to provide it's members with the most entertaining gaming experience possible while at the same time fostering the creative arts among the guild as well as the gaming community in general. They have really beefed up the prize pool but there's a catch, the big prizes our only available if a certain number of Authors enter. The Point is to encourage more Forum members to join, especially those that normally wouldn't consider Creative Writing.

Prompt

For our first event, the prompt will be a basic tale about a single main character. There can be other characters in your story, but it must revolve around one. It doesn't matter what race or alignment he/she is with. All I want is a story about an adventure or event that your character experienced. This is a very open prompt and I expect to see some very creative work.

Rules

1. Your story MUST fit with the Agon storyline and lore. You can create places, things, and people to aid your story, but you may not change or disregard major aspects of Agon Lore.

2. A maximum of 3,000 words is allowed, 500 minimum.

3. All work must be written new for this contest, if you want to submit an old story, do it at your own risk, you're disqualified if I find out.


Judging

The winner will be decided by a community poll given five days after the contest deadline. Once the top 3-5 stories (depending on the number of entries) have been chosen, there will be another poll which will determine the final winner. I'll judge the stories when it comes to enforcing the rules and disqualifying those who break them.

Prizes

(Minimum 15 entries)
1st- Respect and Admiration
2nd- Respect and Admiration
3rd- Respect and Admiration

(Minimum 25 Entries)
1st- 40 dollars USD.
2nd- 20 dollars USD.
3rd- 10 dollars USD.

(Minimum 60 Entries)
1st- 120 USD
2nd- 50 USD
3rd- 30 USD

NOTE: Any entries that appear to be meaningless "filler" stories will be discarded.

Honorable mentions will be given based on poll results and our personal opinion on the work. First and second place are based entirely on poll results. I will transfer the money to the winners in form of moneygram, western union, money order or paypal. (but if something happens to it in the mail then you loose your prize.) Once the winner is chosen we'll sort out the details through PM.

There were multiple entries last time - something like 4 or 5, I believe. The problem was that Daetalion disappeared into the mists, leaving no announcement of a winner or anything of the sort.

I want to know if we're going to have another repeat of that before I put the effort into scrawling another entry up.

To some degree, but the fact remains that when I roll up the sleeves like that I am doing it for a purpose, and to see that purpose frustrated is intensely aggravating.

Sorry I've been away for a few days- was moving back from collage, getting my summer job in order, etc.

Towards the end of the last contest, alot of crazy shit was going on in my life and the contest fell away from my priority list. I should have picked a winner reguardless, but I also realized that the fees to send the money were more or nearly more expensive than the prizes themselves. I dint read every story but I thought there was at least more than 4 or 5. That's why the contest was designed in this fashion, to encourage writing.

That's why I got some extra suppoort this year and was able to kick up the prizes, but obviously we need people to enter.

As far as submitting the stories, I've decided on this.

Post your story on the thread with the title starter "Tales of Agon: (Your story title)." PM the LINK to your Posted Entry. Then I will start an "index" thread where links to all the stories will be listed so readers can easily view each entry. I figure I'll add the stories in groups of three to five, so the list will be updated and bumped regularly while people can still read all BRAND new stories on the RP forum.

There's only like two or three threads on this forum a month, so I don't think we have to worry about crowding anything.
