Hey guys I have decided to write a back story for the character I plan to play in darkfall when its release. This story should end right when my character is first created. Understand its in chapters, and all critisism is welcome.
The Story of Eneriaz Jusette.
Chapter 1.
"I simply will not stand for this, mother!" Eneriaz commanded. “I have every right to view the accounting books father keeps! All this will be mine one day. I must ensure the old fool isn’t sending the business to the dogs!”
"You would do well to speak respectfully of your father. He chose you as the eldest to inherit everything our family has worked so hard to forge".
"Do you really think he chose me for being first born? Me with my ability with numbers and finance my natural affinity for business? Be reasonable mother, it was for my skill not my age".
"I do not doubt your formidable talents son... I shall speak with him tomorrow and see if I can acquire you a few hours in his study".
"A few hours... It will have to do". And with that Eneriaz walked brusquely from the room.
This was a scene re-run nearly every day in the Jusette household. Nothing was off limits to Eneriaz, and he knew it. If alls it took where a few harsh words with mother or father to buy him what he wanted then it was a price he paid without a pang of regret. It truly surprised him that they still insisted in there futile attempts to talk him down when he had made up his mind. Tonight’s victory was all the sweeter; the books might give him the answers he sought.
As of late, there had been slight changes that he had picked up on which at first had only piqued his interest. For instance the change in cooks, while the cook in question was almost indistinguishable from the previous one, it was the manner in which the previous cook had ended her employment. She had simply stopped arriving at dawn; there had been no letter to end her employ, no mention of finishing with the Jusette family. Dilan the second eldest had gone down into the village to find out what exactly she was playing at. This is where the true mystery started; she hadn’t been seen at home since leaving for the manor a few days previous.
This was shortly followed by an increase in patrols from Sanguine. The village of Jusette being close enough to Sanguine to warrant the occasional guard patrol. Two or Three in a year, but in the last week alone four had stopped to ask the villagers of any disturbance in the last few weeks.
No one thought to mention the cook until a patrol called at the manor to speak with father. Eneriaz demanded to be present at the meeting, and as usual was given access after the threat of rearranging the layout of the room was offered. During the meeting Eneriaz brought the information of the missing cook, to the attention of the guard captain in question. At hearing this news, the change in his features was so apparent it was frightening and at the same time intriguing. The man visibly slumped his eyes losing some of there color, like a man who had just had his worst fears confirmed and who was set to face them head on should he need to. The Captain offered his thanks for the information and departed without a second glance, this infuriated Eneriaz as he had to know the answer and to be denied it by anyone was abhorrent to him. Unfortunately the captain and his specific guard, where not seen again in the village after riding out that day.
Also recently outlying farmers had been seen in the village, talking of missing cattle, and sheep found butchered. People suggested that it could have been wolves, but it didn’t add up. The cattle where to big for a wolf to carry away, and if a wolf had killed a sheep, would he not of eaten it?
Two weeks after the disappearance of the cook, on a particularly windy night, the family sat in the living room, with the fire crackling softly, with blankets and books and embroidery. The night was a fierce one, the wind battering the house with which Eneriaz believed the intention of taking the house with it. This was of no immediate concern for his mind was else where, trying to understand what had made that Captain lose his nerve. It had been his obsession this past week, and his temper had been mighty at not knowing an answer. All he had managed to gleam from a Recon into the village Inn had been the words Salient Shadow and upon further enquiry he had been, despite being the son of Brianar, thrown out, for he was still only fourteen.
While he contemplated his findings staring into a dimly lit corner of the room, he noticed that the light was fading. As he looked around the room he noticed that the light was fading all around not just one corner. Even the glow of the fire was weakening. Eventually his family began to notice the change with Elesta fleeing to mothers embrace.
"Father, what in the name of Auros could this be?" Asked Robin, with the first signs of fear creeping into his voice.
"I have no answer for you son. Perhaps more wood will bring about more light. Eneriaz, could you fetch me a few logs from the back?" Brianar asked with a tone that hid a fear he was ashamed to admit in front of his family.
"Step out into darkness not unlike the eyes of a demon father? I shall do no such thing!" Eneriaz retorted with defiance, while moving blindly with outstretched arms over to the closest window, supposedly overlooking the woods in the distance.
Eneriaz stood there for a moment, with the vain hope that his eyes might pick out the moon in the nights sky, which he already knew was obscured by heavy cloud. For a moment he drifted back into his thoughts, running the words Salient Shadow through his mind. He actually had a split second to return back to reality as he made out the two eyes, the colour of blood staring back at him through the window, and that split second stretched into eternity. Those eyes told him without speaking of the horror and insanity inside this creatures mind. The things this monster had done, and was yet to do.
