I know the chances of me getting land like that are VERY low but I'm still working on some more designs for other landforms =]

Thanx for the input guys. When you say Cavern do you mean inside a cave?

Well yeah, but a vast open cave like the devs have described the underworld of the alfar and to a lesser extent the dwarves. (I assumed you were showing some possible city setups as they might be in Darkfall.)

Yeah, I did mean that. I will give that a shot in the morning quite tired right now x.x

my only concern is how unprotected the township is. Other than the wall and the moat, it is all but unguarded. Perhaps another buffer would serve to maintain that the lifeblood of your community is not spilled in the throws of war.

Um, that wall is huge and the enemy would be trapped inside it ^^ if u mean that square looking wall after the moat, and to get to the castle theyd have to fight through the "city".

The wall doesn't look that big in the second image, you can see some houses poking over the top, so it can't be more than 20-30 feet high.

Oh, "only" 20-30 feet, yes well easy to get over. Just take a run and a jump. I'd say it would be taller enough.
Seriously, maybe a trebuchet could shot something voer, but it looks ok.

Well, I mean, of course you can't just jump over the wall. I'm just saying that a "Really Big wall" is like, 60+ feet. At least imo.

You must keep in mind that we would hire NPC guards ^^

Yeah i looks great. The second looks less protected, as it runs past a river which can be used to maybe sail a shit up. But the general layout is cool, with diferent parts for different things.

I'm a little less experience than wonderbread at the program, but heres a little design of mine:

http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/8899/city1pic3um3.jpg
http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/7563/city1pic2lv3.jpg
Try not to compare mine to wonderbread's cos... then i would surely be insulted, lol.
I really did this more to outline a city plan, than the actual design of the structures etc.
What do you think?

It's good looks like everything is crammed in there but hey whatever works. I like the second one the best.

I guess I was trying to go for that feel like in oblivion, where all the houses are joined at the sides. Gotta make the city efficient too :P (in both transit, and cost)
Im sure those walls will consume a lot of rock, and I doubt mining will be the most fun aspect of the game.

Love the designs, but Wonder from a strategic view your second one if a little weak even though the city itself is great. If you're actually considering using these I'd say draw in a wall along the majority of the canal entering the city leaving only a small area where ships can dock.
Baenor

Thats a great idea Thiruen. I am not quite as good as Wonderbread at making massive labyrinths of walls.
The complexity of his entrance is great strategically, but I am not good enough at sketch-up to make a similar type defense.
EDIT: just realised you werent talking about mine... so nvm. But yes, his second one could do with some more defensive type structures. It appears open for anyone to invade via ships.
I am working on another city design at the moment, but I am not spending much time on it, so it will be a while before I post it.

That Sketchup program is really cool. Once you figure it out, it's easy to use, fairly simple, and you can create a lot of stuff with it as shown by those cities.
Here's my first bit of tinkering with it, not a city, just a house on an island, maybe I'll try a city later. It's crap since as I said I was figuring things out as I made it, plus, apparently the top of the house is 650 feet above sea level.

Jw is there any other program out there besides sketch up thats free and easier to use, I'm really confused on how it works, it looks like its more for the one house soryta thing not the whole city thing.
