Ronin

\Ro"nin"\, n. [Jap. r[=o]-nin, fr. Chin. lang profligate, lawless + j[^e]n (old sound n[=i]n) man.] In Japan, under the feudal system, a samurai who had renounced his clan or who had been discharged or ostracized and had become a wanderer without a lord; an outcast; an outlaw.

For those of us who ally themselves to no one clan, will we be allowed to have our own housing?

Am I the only one who finds the idea of not having a clan appealing?

Its easier for a clan to take, defend and build:sly:

You can try it by yourselfe.....but do the math!

I wish you good luck:D
And if you manages to do it, you have my respect.

You can definately build a house, but if you're offline there's not much stopping vandals from fucking your shit up. Basically, you have to hope you can find a super remote place that you're content to live in without your house gettng burned down all the time. The drawback is that most people will be adventuring and won't want to set down roots where they must constently fix/defend/rebuild.

So yes, but it'll be difficult as far as we can tell.

You can live in another Clan's city. Clans can decide whether or not to allow outsiders to live in their city. You'll be under their protection, so your stuff probably won't get nicked. Problem is, you'll also have to pay tax. But you can keep your no-clan status

I also find the ronin play style appealing. Just being on your own with your own agenda, your own time-table. Not having to play to anyone's command but the command of your own wants and needs.

I just hope it plays out better than being guildless in WoW.

I find the loner role intriguing. Especially as I am currently guildless. Sorta.

Personally I'm looking forward to seeing a clan city ridden with gangs of thieves. Or evena more organized " Mafia" of sorts.

A rain soaked yakuza-run village in feudal Japan comes to mind. Any sort of gritty crime infested city like that would be a blast to play in.

wtf kind of clan city has a gang of thieves? seriously unless that gang belongs to the clan and goes out jacking others why would you ever let such things happen in your territory?

A very unorganized clan which doesn't care, and has a shady deal with the mob.

Why do mayors do the same? Policemen? Congressmen?

Usually, because of money.

Of course. Any city where I have to wear armour down the streets is a great city for me.

That's exactly the point, considering darkfall won't have giant glowing names, and has disguise skills, it should be quite easy to kill someone then change your appearance. I forsee after a while if stealthy killers/thieves manage to remain with their identities hidden, then a city might to into marshall law/ secret police.
