We updated the screenshots section today with some screenshots from the pretty nifty Worldbuilder we use to create the Darkfall world.

The Worldbuilder is running a modified version of the game engine, and we place new objects and scripts around in the world with total freedom.

Like everything else we use to make Darkfall, the Worldbuilder is an inhouse developed tool. Made, owned and operated by Razorwax http://www.darkfallonline.com/community/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The spikes on the walls look menacing, cant wait to siege or defend a place like that

Pretty cool! Now you have to let us download the DF Worldbuilder so that we can create and submit new areas. You can't just tease us with stuff like this! ;-)

Looks nice, I like the way the light of the sky makes the environment look redish (whatever color the sky has).

I'm sure the mahirims that will some day will live there will find those walls good for when I'm attacking them =)

It's looking good. I think the world has improved form the last screen shots. Mainly becuase it looks more realistic, and not to cartoon like. I'm a critic of games, and I think this game looks good. ********** 10/10 Good JOB GUYS!!!

(I can critisize becuase I can create games my self.... Thats right

I was just saying in IRC how much I liked the look of the Mahirim outpost. It's very close in appearance to the concept art and that's a very good thing. I hope that most of the in-game things that we haven't seen yet, but have seen concept art for, remains similar to it. Too bad no actual picture of a Mahirim though, but I image they don't have a model they are happy with yet.

Lastly I only have one very small suggestion(not critisism) for the Mahirim outpost. The trees that make up the wall, seem to be just sitting on top of the ground instead of actually being imbedded down into the ground. Either adding a mound of dirt around the bottom of them or maybe a dirt ring around each log would do the trick. It's not a big deal and knowing the RazorWaX guys they have already planned to do that and just haven't made the final touches on small things like that yet.

I don't understand the world builder at all, but if they say it's easy to use, then I'll believe them.

I completely agree with Gowel.

I feel that the small touch of dirt mounds, or some other indication that the logs actually penetrate the ground would add an additional life to the scene.

The world is looking wonderful, I'm just trying to support ideas of making it perfect.

Small things like an occasional 'point' on a hill, or a log that moves too clean into the ground, or a pond that ends in a perfect right angle make the environment seem lifeless.

I am sure RW will consider all of those additions, and I feel that this powerful worldbuilder will be capable.

Wow!

I would just like to say thanks.

After being burnt by dawn, it's been hard to believe in any mmorpg actually exists. Those shots are all the proof I need.

Looks great and thanks for all the recent updates to the site!

I can't wait to see what the 'finished' alpha shots look like.

You guys have made great progress! Keep it up!

Very nice...it looks like it would be easy to use. I'm so jealous of your coding ability. All I can do is rant. http://www.darkfallonline.com/community/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The only question I have is this...is there any functionality to the outpost as it is today?

i.e. Do the spikes "do" anything? Can players climb the walls? Dig holes under them? Etc, etc...

I'm probably getting ahead of myself...but what's new. ;)

Good question,my guess is they prevent people from climbing the poles hehe.

Keep up the good job guys

Wow, Could you guys imagine a couple of well placed burning pitch bombs via catapult in there? http://www.darkfallonline.com/community/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
LOL, its looking great, I like the grass growing up around the poles on the right side of the entrance, it gives it a feel of having been there for all summer at least http://www.darkfallonline.com/community/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Hmm, maybe a summoned swarm of termites.....?
I just can't decide how is best to destroy it now that its built http://www.darkfallonline.com/community/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Thanx guys!

Airius:
The Elf can't climb the tree walls, even though the elf can climb normal trees very good. The reason why it can't climb the tree walls, is because they have anti-elf material on them =)

And as for digging under it, I think that will be impossible, since those trees are buried so deep underground, but who knows, maybe there is a point where it's possible? =)

The world's looking awsome! Each set of screenshots you guys put out blows the previous ones away. The trees and objects are looking much more realisitic and seem to fit into the world a lot more naturally.

I don't think this is controlled by the World-Builder, and it may not even be something you're working on right now, but I had a suggestion for the sky. The colors are really nice for the different times of day, but the sky and clouds seem to be blurred together in a big haze. I think it would be really dramatic to see some realistic cloud layers, made up of individual clouds. Also would be cool to have the sky continuously changing (from clear, cloudless skies to ominous, dark-grey thunderheads) and have realistic weather patterns.

You guys may already be working on all this, in which case disreagard that last paragraph. Regardless, great work RW!

One additional question I have about the sky is this:

Will the sky of the Mahirim look the same as the sky of the other races? Surely this would depend on what time of day it was, the weather conditions and "perhaps" the geography of the region...I guess what I'm really wanting to know is, why would the sky be orange like that? It looks really cool...I just haven't figured out "why." http://www.darkfallonline.com/community/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Yes, very, very nice screenshots indeed! All of the abilities you devs possess never cease to amaze me!

I only wish food and water was a vital part of life for DarkFall. That way, the combat aspect of the game, mainly during siege warfare would be even more realistic. I can only imagine the besiegers surrounding such an outpost as the picture presents... Just waiting for those that are undersiege to run out of food and water, then only to be forced to surrender.

After I went to bed last night, I lay there for awhile thinking about some things. This isn't critisism and some aren't even questions. They are just some random thoughts that popped into my head.

The size of those tree trunks. Those had to have come from some VERY large trees. So far, those are the largest tree logs we have seen in screenshots. Surely those trees had to come from somewhere. Surely the Mahirim didn't carry them incredibly long distances. They must have come from somewhere nearby. Yet I see no similarly sized trees surrounding the area. Where did those trees come from? Will the outlying area from the outpost be covered with heavy forrests of trees that size? Maybe the outpost itself was created after the Mahirim had cleared out a large section of a giant woodlands. The racial description talks of "pockets of Evergreen forrest". That would fit perfectly, so long as some of those "pockets" were nearby to this outpost.

Climbing the walls and digging under the walls. If this is outpost is the Mahirim capital, then doing either, wouldn't accomplish much, as capital cities cannot be taken over.

Though, I would hope that by design the Mahirim would have considered this and constructed, with wood, a spike wall around the main wall of the outpost. Something that has been used in both real life as well as other video games when wooden forts or outposts were. I can't seem to find an illustration of what I'm talking about, but I will do my best to explain. The main wall, as it is in the screenshots would remain the same, but picture the following added to it.
There would be many spiked logs coming out of the ground and away from the wall, slanted upward at about a 45 degree angle. They'd surround the entire main wall and help protect it from people trying to climb it or tear it down. Make sense? Maybe someone else can locate a link that shows what I'm referring to.

Very nice,

I want to know can this object be destroyed? I am tired of games where the buildings cannot be reduced or destroyed. I like WW2 Online for the fact if you wanted to you could raze a city to the ground and I want to do that on a fantasy scale.

So can it be destroyed?
