Forget about pwn right now, what about those words? How do they ban the word "awesome"?It's not banned in conversation, just in papers turned into the school. At least, that's how it sounded to me.

What the hell is the point of that, how do you ban the word "search"?

Teth

"Truthiness" isn't a word by any stretch of the imagination, so that's fine.

"Awesome", though? wtf? That has perfectly legitimate applications outside of its slangly colloquialism. I guess they're expecting people to instead waste time and write "awe-inspiring" instead...tscheh.

Don't even get me started on stuff like "search" or "chipotle". Lousy bunch of archaic fuckwits; they give everybody who cherishes the English language a bad name.

A couple can never accurately say "we're pregnant" because the guy is never pregnant (unless an extraterrestrial is involved.) And yet people continue to say it in that way. It's misuse, not overuse.
The rest of the list is pretty much WTF?!

Anyone who would ban Chipotle should be banned from banning by an awesomely lengthy banning in order to reflect upon the Search of Truthiness. After all, banning is better than sitting in a jail cell in Gitmo with Tomkat only to find that your drug deal gone bad has gone missing as well, and no matter how much you Ask your Doctor, he just boasts about how he can write you an i-scription to fix that little i-problem that's been i-pwning you. Just be careful as you might end up running down the street screaming "WE'RE -PREGNANT" after some really screwed up encounter with an undocumented alien TJ doctor who is always hocking health food late at night after the infomericals. But don't take my word for all this; you can watch the new Micheal Moore Documentary titled "STFU OR I'll PWN YOU BRANGELINA", now playing in Theaters no where near joo.

Oh, I though people used it like a metaphor for something in too great quantity. Ex: We're pregnant with fear in todays society.

that's absurd. i want to hit the president of that university in the face. banning the use of any words is fucking retarded.

Yes, but the general usage of the term is in fact a man and a woman who are a couple and say "we're pregnant." Banning the phrase entirely is retarded nevertheless, as such circumstances as the latter DO arise. The former...if you're saying both women would be pregnant, I strongly doubt that one.

I wouldn't doubt that a student will find legitimate uses for as many of those banned terms as possible, just to spite the university.

MandorRook
07-09-2008, 11:07 AM
Expecting students to be able to actually communicate in the language being taught?!?!? WTF? They should be able to completely make up words and turn in a paper comprised of gibberish so the teacher has no fucking clue what they are trying to say. l33t sp34k should be given extra points when used in term papers and should be an accepted format for all thesis papers.

By the way, that was all sarcasm. Students that use internet shortcuts, slang or intentionally mispelled words on school work should be stripped naked and set a drift on an ice flow.

Teachers are just jealous because the students have more imagination, creativity and lives than them.

http://www.lssu.edu/banished/discuss/?page_id=2

The tongue-in-cheek Banishment List began as a publicity ploy for little-known LSSU.

It's not serious, it's all a tradition for LSSU to "ban" words from our language. People submit all kinds of words they think shouldn't be used and they make a list every New Years.

I can't see a link, is it this one by any chance? http://www.lssu.edu/banished/current.php

Pwn wasn't on there, so its probably not and i'm way off.

Anyway, I think their ideas are good but methods are wrong.

"Ok, everyone? Don't use THESE WORDS. We have to get everyone in on thi-oi you, put down those Oreo's, they're for afters, ok, now, Don't say any of these ever, because everyone says them and that makes them uncool."

It'll never work like this. That one on random, yes thats true it is a widespread used term but boffins from a university telling it to go away won't make it actually go away. It'll go away of its own accord and then people will remember the day that LSSU changed the world.

Some of those on that list aren't bad at all anyway!

Back in the day is fine, and if used correctly is widely amusing.
X is the new Y is usually only used by gays closet or not, so its good to help you know who your friends are.

agreed

Next there will be paper burnings of the students who refuse to go along with the ban. then they will move up to Books.
Before long they will just start burning the students who use the words in public.

Its the begining of the end!

IMO as soon as someone uses that term its a self Pwnage. The lose right there.
